if youre referring to Sanga as legends keep in mind he has a better strike rate as well...if the s.r. is low you could say that he played to uplift his average but nah he has a better s.r. than Kalu in ODis as well not just an avg twice as much as his....but when you consider wicket keeping skills Kalu was faster in stumpings , Sanga was better in catches those 2 are the best wicket keepers SL has ever produced
Difference between you and Kalu is apparent through your comment. He didn’t underestimate himself. He did a correct estimation so that the team would benefit in the LT. Because of that decision he made, SL produced the greatest test batsmen of our generation.

96 WCUP, we just went to watch the match in Caribbean restaurant. There were tons of Indian fans and few Lankans fans in the restaurant. 1st India batted and we were watching quietly. Miss Kaluwitharana loads, those cheeky stumpings, the brilliant pull and hook shots even in Australian conditions and the cavalier way in which he played pace bowling. I always felt that he never fully realized his batting potential, his average does no justice to his natural talent with the bat.
Kalu You started the carrier as one of the worst wicketkeepers. I could still remember the first test.... The runs you gave to the opponent. Great you ended as the best in the world. What matters is the end, not the beginning. I always admire you . God bless you.
