The fourth part of the full voting of the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, with British commentary and in this part the votes from: Finland Switzerland Italy Portugal
Is Luxembourg the quietest country on Earth? Audience don't react much! I love the hostess, who said Americans can't be involved with Eurovision? Feel sorry for Austria being the only one not to score double figures, Sweden winning 10 years after ABBA was delightful yet coincidental, Herreys were not so successful though. Spain should've won ESC 1984 imho, btw thanks for 10 pts Italia x
It is notable that the Herreys still are known for their Eurovision win and not much else even here in Sweden. That is rather remarkable since ABBA became huge internationally, and Carola and Charlotte Perrelli are both still in the local spotlight. However, I seem to remember that Richard Herrey had some acting gigs on TV back in the '90s.
It's funny how Johnny came close to making a complete trifecta of Benelux wins. Anyway, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Switzerland, Norway and Yugoslavia all scored way more than they should have, at the expense of songs like Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal, all of whom were quite underrated. I'm happy the voting (aside from the top-4) was never this completely scatterbrained again.
Ireland seemed to get all of their victories in Benelux (1970, 1980, 1987), in Scandinavia (1992 and 1996) or back in their home country (1993 and 1994). I have to say that Yugoslavia was much better than Germany, and I would say that Portugal got the position that they deserved.

The audience is very silent even when the winner is declared, i wonder why. The voting was very exciting that year.
Spain was robbed again
