Beautiful work. I was a little confused at first when drilling the pivot holes but then after seeing the pattern I completely understood why you did that. Big fan of your work
@@pavloszimbrakos4410I’ve seen a lot of bladesmiths doing the coffee soak and I gotta say I love the contrast! One of them did it with a copper and steel Damascus and it was freakin beautiful.
@ I’m already getting tired with the pattern much less the black blade I love when random hands makes it so shiny you can see your reflection that’s the best!
I've started watching you during Covid-19 pandemic, to be honest you started from scratch with very few materials and equipment, but a lot of talent and creativity, I congratulate you for all the hard work, it is well deserved, Hope you will prosper even more, Beautiful piece of blade you made here !
Hours, days, weeks, months, years and decades of educational experience has allowed these men to create works of brilliant art! 😊 It's incredible that the new minutes, hours, days, weeks and months to create this beautiful masterpiece is documented and condensed into a 20 minute video for us to watch and marvel. It's incredible TWENTY MINUTES make this look so simple and easy, but omg the real time and tooling and skill and effort it all took to create this amazing cleaver is sooo awesome, I've run out of praising words! It's refreshing that such trades exist amid the politics and drama of western life. Once again, thank you guys for what you do!!!
I find it extremely thoughtful that when you bind the steel to another piece you kind of blur it so it doesn’t hurt the viewers eyes. I appreciate that a lot. Also this piece turned out beautifully. Your work is amazing ❤
being an artist/craftsman myself .........the fact he made a sheath for it , well , it explains to me how his knives look so good. ...just a tip , japanese cooking knives are only sharpened from 1 side.... looks awesome bro !
@tadaaaa952 1095 may be a fine blade steel, but it wasn't tempered nor was that a proper heat treat. Using plain water makes it brittle. What he used in the video certainly looked like water to me anyway.
I hope he tempered off screen. Especially for a chopping knife lol. Points on the creative san mai technique though. May not be traditional based on what I've seen, but effective nonetheless and achieved the same goal.
@Tadaaaa 1095 is outdated obsolete high Maintenace low performance for a knife steel. The only half decent thing about it is that it's tough as nails so if and only if you treat it correctly AND grind the blade thinly enough, it can do decent, but still a kitchen knife, even a veg chppoer like this, doesn't a very high standard for toughness. Basically if he did this right, in terms of heat treat and grind, it can be okay, but still rusty and will go blunt at the edge faster than basically any other steel. The good news it's easy to sharpen, very easy, and will likely never experience edge failure or chipping. Folks dont understand.. the reason those forging steels are selected isn't because they're the best steels for a knife, it's the totally opposite. They're chosen because they're the easiest for a human to hammer on all day, back when knives were made in such a crude manner. The best steels for a knife literally can not be hammer forged period.
@tadaaaa952 Even the most low grade stainless aka chromium steels have a lot more "edge retention" than any carbon steel, and even the low alloy steels like 52100. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. Find me one person in the world that is making knives out of those high alloy/stainless powdered steels you mentioned using the same process you see in the video. It doesn't exist. You're going to burn your puny little forge and power hammer out before you figuratively make a dent, and the end product would be garbage. That's not how this works. Those steels can only be made by a handful of companies and only be forged by a handful of mills in the world. I could make and forge 1095 in my backyard. Knife makers who work with those materials buy them and grind it into a knife. How much better is the end product? Well, it can be a lot better in various quantitative and qualitative ways but for one thing "better" is a preference and also most users don't actually "demand" very much from a knife anyway and thus don't need all that, so it's often just for bragging rights basically.

This is one of your best so far. The damascus really pops. I like the sheath making, that's unusual on this channel, and the waxed leather technique is a new one to me.
Beautiful knife with damascus pattern, It's just a pity that the handle of the knife is too short and has to be connected, why didn't you exaggerate the handle for the knife at the start of the manufacture? Success is always for you. Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩🙏
You know that this is not handmade? He used the Power Hammer to forge the Damascus and then just cut the cleaver out of it. The only things handmade are the guard and the handle.
@@SithLordFighter working smart doesn't mean it worth less... in old days, blacksmith didn't have mechanical hammers. Now around the world, black smiths use it for sack of ease...I mean, why sweat and hammer for days when you can finish your work faster and get started with the next one. It will be stupid not use tech advantage to grow.
AWESOMENESS IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY!!!! You sir are amazingly talented and I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. Please keep up the great work and I promise I'll keep up on watching your videos!
I love your work. I'm a Carpenter and I saw you push the wood block through the Table Saw without a push stick. Blade wide open. I did that myself being very skilled with power tools. The wood I cut got snagged and whammy I lost a bit of my right Thumb. Please brother don't ever do that again. It can go wrong. Keep your fingers use a wooden push rod always. Fingers don't grow back.
This is a work of art. I almost cringed and didn't want him to cut those vegetables and chicken. Just keep them in perpetual display. Beautiful. God bless.
I might be a year late but it’s acid that the two different types of steel react differently to, and so reveals the patters from earlier in the video where they are forged together

Your videos were my inspiration in getting into restoration, and learning skills like wood and metalworking. Another amazing project as always, keep up the amazing work!
Had to leave another comment, loved you welding that tang extension. Hate seeing all these blacksmiths afraid of fixing there knives with welding. A good weld is as good as a bar from the mill
Sometimes on longer videos I tend to find myself wanting to skip forward thru parts because of my ADD/short attention span...but I found myself sitting thru watching every bit of this video without once jumping forward haha. Awesome work man...craftmanship like this truly is an art form of it's own. Well done 🫡
this video made me learn that damascus is made almost exactly how i expected; by slamming a bunch of metal together in specific ways until it looks cool
I remember using the same kind of rulers in art class in school. And I always thought they would look cool.If someone made them into a knife or a sword!

Absolutely beautiful. ESP the part that serves as the barrier from the blade to the handle. Awesome shape design. I’ll be watching more as this is something I’ve always enjoyed, especially the restore videos.
6:40 you actually want to leave at least a small round where the tang and blade meet, as a neatly squared corner acts as a stress riser and increases the risk of breakage.

Good point! Also, be wary of using gloves near a rotating saw blade. If the glove snags on the blade, it can pull the hand toward the blade.
