Wow. It’s sad that these types of videos are starting to become regular features on the show. The news section is becoming longer and more depressing every week.
Regardless, all I can say is thank you for your hard work! I have so much respect for this channel and all it does for the countryside.

I really feel for Mr Rowantree. He is clearly very passionate about the land he loves and lives on and the appropriate and proportionate management of the deer that live there. He should be an advisor to the Government. Truly a National Treasure in my view.

Another great episode! With Nialls knowledge he should be in government making the decisions. Good to see Roy

Another good example of government miss management is an area here in North America that use to produce world class big horn sheep now has no legal shootable sheep.
They spent 100s of thousands of dollars on an assessment. The Biologist said there are too many Ewes, you guys should out for a 100+ Ewe tags, and 1 or 2 Ram Tags. The biologist said the Ewes are out competing the Rams, main reason no trophy rams were around. Not enough feed.
The next year the government released draws.... 10 Ewes Per year, 1 Ram Tag for the area.

Hugely thought provoking show tonight and always good to see Dr. Cathy Mayne (now formerly of SNH, did she speak out of turn?) contributing as she always applies science based facts having spent years on the ground. Unbelievable that the SNP government, propped up by the Greens, view all the evils of the world as being caused by grouse shooting or deer stalking. Is it, perhaps, caused by social grievance and "Brave Heart" politics? Perish the thought. The story in News about encouraging locals to take to the hills and shoot some deer for the larder is a much better solution if they are on the public estate and the private estates are left to get on with it.
BTW, there is a tender out from Public Contracts Scotland for deer surveys now, the scope of which is interesting. Perhaps Dr. Mayne, working with Niall and the Fieldsports Nation should tender for it?

Thank you for mentioning the Consultation Document deadline, I have put in my evidence but have also written to my MP pointing out that the end of trophy shooting of deer in the UK by foreigners will see the end of four businesses that I know. It is probably pointless seeing as whom our government's main wildlife advisers are but I couldn't live with myself if I sat back and did nothing!

Its a disgrace, But they will reap what they sow.......in 5-10 years, what will the precious eagles eat once the deer population is gone ........Long winters ahead....Then who will they blame. Great news for Ravens & Red Kites too......I also say any shooter who participates in this slaughter should be black balled from every estate for life.

Regarding the Fallow reaction to shot. The first looks like a HILAR placement to me vs the top heart in the second which to me accounts for the different responses, not adrenaline

Charlie, you said it yourself - the problem is caused by the urban population. Mainly because they don't know any better. I keep saying this, you NEED to push to get these films on TV, not just UA-cam. Cos it's only people like me and like minded others that watch it. Is Boris Johnson going to watch this? Doubtful. Nor will any of of the "urbanites". You have a great platform and no doubt the experience and contacts to get this seen by millions and millions of people and of varied backgrounds. You said yourself "if you are watching this and you're from the Scottish government...." but I doubt any or enough people in the right places will see this. It needs viewing by the masses so that they realise!! It needs to cause a stir among all these idiots that don't know what they're talking about. You need to make THEM realise what the problems are instead of just us. We already know all this, they don't, but they need to. Come on!!

Thanks - I disagree about the viewership. UA-cam is s fabulous public space where anyone can watch any film. Our films get more views than most programmes on terrestrial TV in the UK. UA-cam is the best way to get a politician to watch a film. Then can make up their own minds. / Charlie

There's a dilemma there in the deer feature, regarding the Fallow and Sika deer (and though not mentioned, the Red/Sika hybrids?). We know the deer population in the uk is too high, and these are an introduced species, like the Grey squirrel, which there are also calls to eradicate. I think it would be beneficial to understand what effect it would have on the Red and Roe deer if the introduced species were removed.

Ridiculous solution from the government to a problem that does not need outside intervention.
Our keepers and managers have done many decades of great work while bringing cash into the economy then the government get involved.
    Management not extinction is key.

Politicians are stupid. They wanted to let the deer run free in the states but when sone explained that there new car might be totaled from a deer hitting it they backed off. To make the environment thrive you need the animals there but also you need to properly mange the herds to keep them healthy which in return will keep the environment healthy.

it would be nice if hunting was more accessible for the common person, prices seem to be unbelievably high for people who don't have the land to hunt on

Recreational hunters can manage all this and do good for the economy

Most depressing video, the Scottish people will rue the day they ever let loose the SNP on the reigns of power. Where are the anti's? Surely they must be infuriated by this debacle?

  • @tastefulnude
    @tastefulnude 4 роки тому +3

I can see us all handing over our shotguns and firearms soon unless something changes. Why are the antis jumping in on this! They are literally going to mow down deer! Can we find out an antis view on this Charlie? I want to see if they think this is better when shown the facts. Very very sad episode. Ill give the survey another go

The argument from people like Mark Avery is that taxpayers pay the subsidies, so taxpayers should be allowed to manage the land, which legitimises state control instead of local control within state framework. / Charlie

    • @tastefulnude

How ironic they don’t want use pay to shoot one or two deer yet they are happy to pay taxes which funds the killing of thousands of deer unnecessarily. Honestly it’s like banging your head against a brick wall.

And yet in the US the federal government does do a wonderful job of balancing hunting opportunities for the average citizen & protecting the land upon which hunting requires. Leave the task to Local gov. & land developers, the average hunter has no chance.

Sad to see the state sponsored persecution of Scotland's wild deer. Here on the Isle of Wight our wild deer have been subject to this too. Here's how Isle of Wight Deer Conservation responded to the Forestry Commission's
IW Forest Design Plan in order to support the continued presence of the island's wild deer here wp.me/p5Lzto-20

Hunting pays for conservation and wildlife flourishes because of it. It amazes me when voters are against hunting but are okay with taxes paying to kill deer.
