My daughter is 17, she got type 1 diabetes at the age of 2. It's been a long hard road, she's been unconrollable (A1C at 12+) for the past 6 yrs. But she handles everything real well. I've learned alot over the years. I have much respect for ppl living with diabetes.

I've had Type 1 diabetes since 2001. I'm 16 now. It's not a easy life but nothing you do has to be limited. :)

just a few Similarities to a Type 1 and a Type 2 Diabetic LIFESTYLE are: Controlled portion sizes, regular exercise, Carb counting, (for later on with type 2) insulin therapy, Hypo and Hyperglycemic awareness and the treatment of both, Slow healing wounds, Foot care, eye care, dental care, Finger sticks, the impact on family and close friends, Social discrimination, etc. As a type 1 I still have to have regular exercise, just I have to inject insulin afterwards. (most times)

@mermaidofsuburbia don't worry you can eat basically what ever you want soon! you just have to match your insulin level to the amount of carbs you eat. it'll all become much simpler and clearer after a few weeks :)

I knew about Halle Berry, Elvis Presley and a few other diabetic stars, but quite honestly the most touching story in this video is the one towards the end of the video, where the actor talks about the way he's felt on set while being low, and how he's coped with it.

Both types are treated the same by employers and the general public. I have learned that the common perception of Diabetes it that Type 1 is the "really bad" kind. You can get both types late in life, and both types early in life. It should not matter what type they have. The lifestyle is the same, the treatment my non-diabetics is the same. I know. I was diagnosed type1 in 2004. I was born non-diabetic in 1977, There are cases of Children as young as 8 years old getting diagnosed type 2

best thing for when your low is milk! works for meee everytime! cause it coats your stomach and stays with you for a longer time than coke. for an instant raise in your blood sugar, id probably have a couple sips of coke...but then id go for some milk. :-) jusstt sayyiinnn

diabetes doesnt exactly keep me from doing anything, except eating certain things or as much as id like, but it sure sucks ass. Its actually made alot of my life a wreck, i was going to college and decided to take my career a different direction, then i was told I couldn't stay on my dads health insurance plan....now i have to pay straight up for supplies and my financial and heath status arent so great.....they NEED to find a cure.

I wish they would differentiate between type 1 and type 2. It’s too broad to say diabetes. They are two separate diseases that are caused but totally separate things. I hate that people think diabetes is the “fat disease” !!!! People really don’t understand the difference between type 1 and type 2 and as a result the media has branded us all as one. Type 2 diabetes is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle whereas Type one is thought to be genetic however there is no known cause and cannot be prevented. As someone who suffers with type 1 diabetes I find it difficult to tell people as they don’t understand my disease they only think they know. The media has to stop talking about diabetes as one disease it puts the two types in one boat that is not appropriate.
