- This is a battle report for BattleTech: Alpha Strike, Chaos Campaign in the Tamar Rising setting.
Battle of Tortle Valley, Phase 1 of the war, 4th episode
My players are battling for control of a lucrative world: Blue Hole. My players represent different factions/ armies under the greater umbrella of the Alyina Mercantile League and the Vesper Marches (Tamar Rising). Their decisions dictate this narrative campaign and which battles are fought in this Chaos Campaign.

Best bat reps on the internet :)
Can we get the warchest breakdown back? It was cool to see how much each side has paid/won for each battle.
Sure thing, I will post it on Patreon (free post for everyone to see) starting with the next battle report.
Absolutely fantastic work. Still chugging through my marathon viewing. Watching the strategic situation go haywire after the costly battle last video is fantastic to see.
Hey look, a comment to help this channel with the algorithm
These are great. Under rated, wished id found these earlier. Started watching from the beginning and hooked on the campaign unfolding now
Damn... House Korbyn has no luck... well... their pilots have no luck. all 6 of them in the Tortle Valley campaign died? jeez... I know they're green and all, but did their instructors at least SHOW THEM where the eject button is??? lol
once again, great battle report, actually kept me on edge there.
I know, right!? Sometimes the dice look you straight in the eye - and laugh... Snake Eyes... I'm glad you're enjoying the battle reports!
I'm loving this. If only I had a group to play a narrative campaign like this with, I stead of occasional quick pickup games.
A campaign is loads of fun. But getting started is also very hard. My suggestion is to try a small campaign setting- like a "best of three" but with each win adding in more BV, or allowing the player to get a few lucky points for the next match if they won the previous match. From there, people naturally get more excited for longer more intricate campaigns :)
Exceptional! Can’t wait for the next installment!
This is by far my favorite BattleTech Channel
You don’t add the fire control damage bonus on the same turn you received it. Otherwise it was a good game
LOL, my player called and said the same thing after watching the video. To be honest, I am not sure how it got into the script nor past editing. I looked back through my notes I was taking during the game, I wrote it down- and then scratched it out... I even had the right target number jotted down next to a giant circled 12 when the player rolled the crit. I would try to blame Thanksgiving... but really it is a "whoops, my bad" moment. But thank you for pointing that out just in case it was confusing new players watching the battle report. :)
I don't feel like things went too badly for House Korbyn. Yeah, they lost some mechs, but they seem to have those in spades. They drew the mobile reinforcements away from the real target, and they heavily damaged two powerful (and expensive) clan omnimechs and killed an Archer. I think they probably should have gave it one more turn to see if they could do some more damage and maybe finish off some of the damaged mechs, but I'm sure they had their reasons. Looking forward to the next report!
Yeah, as the game master, I was a silent observer (mostly silent)... and I was a little disappointed they didn't decide to stay and fight it out. But again, it is up to the players (and sometimes in the heat of the moment they have to make decisions that could have long-term ramifications- and they err on the cautious side). Later, I asked the players why they decided to withdraw and it was based on two concerns. First, they were worried that they would have too much open ground to close distance with the Chupacabras (so their poor MechWarrior level would be taken advantage of at long range). The second concern was the distance their force was from their HQ which made repairs limited to only armor repairs and more expensive. Repair cost and availability (scarcity) is due to our campaign house rules. I am working on a video that explains our house rules and getting a pdf version ready for download on our Patreon site. Fingers crossed, should be ready by the end of December.
@@WargamerStories For sure, it is always easy to critique this stuff afterward rather than in the heat of the moment. I didn't know the stuff about the house rules, but that makes sense - it will be cool to see that explained and see how it squares with the stuff from the old out-of-print Alpha Strike Companion.
Great!
Just finished watching all 4 of your videos. Lots of fun! I love the campaign movement portions with the moving units and etc., that's awesome. Reminds me of Baz Battles! The graphics when the units fire and take damage are lots of fun too. How do you feel about the to-hit math? This is my own opinion and this is your art so of course feel free to disregard, but if it were me I'd probably just summarize as "needs a 9 to hit" or even "the shot is a little tricky." I am a "get right to the action!!" sort of person though, so that is my bias!
Great job! Keep it up! I like that your videos show a great battle in a short period of time. Sometimes battle report videos stretch on for hours and that can be a bit much :P
Loving the feedback and chatting with commenters, good community cultivating right there 😄
Also I love the memorable 7th light Cav. They need some pilot names or name the omni mechs Big red and little blue are great. If one dies it’s going to be heartbreaking
what color brown is that on the longbow and archer looks great
I don't know for sure actually. My wife paints some of the mechs and I think she did those. She mixes paints... But if I had to guess, I think it is one of the ruddy skin colors mixed with a bit of orange and London grey.
Stupid question out of curiosity:How big is the playing table? Is it 4'x4'?
Usually 6x6, but for the Battle of Tortle Valley it was 4x4 (since it was a valley- and it's the only "wintery" game mat we had). For urban combat, we might use even smaller game mats
@@WargamerStories Thank you.
I'm not entirely sure why losing initiative is beneficial for moving on positions. Unless your opponent physically blocks your movement, you can still go where you want, or are there some zone of control rules I'm not familiar with?
For the most part, you're right. But melee combat (or special physical attacks) can only be done against mechs that already moved.
@@WargamerStories Hmm - I don't understand. That's a reason that it's better to win initiative (as you get to use melee if you wish) rather than lose it. Maybe I'm just not grocking the intricacies of Alpha Strike!
Do you have a document that outlines your campaign structure?
Yep, we sure do. I am getting a video together to explain it. It will also be ready for download off our Patreon site in the next few weeks.
Looking forward to this so much!

😡
I'm guessing you wanted the Chupacabra's to win?
