jekader I'm afraid he was much more than that :). Robert Llewelyn also played the role of Kryten (the ship's Android) in the famous UK humour laden Science Fiction TV series "Red Dwarf". He's obviously very humble about it, as there's never any reference to it here. And yes, I'm a fan of his work here on this UA-cam Channel :)
i had an electric scooter but i had to sell it before i shifted towns i realy miss it it was awesome for commutes to work and i had solar panels to charge it from at home. have a great day mark
Great video! Ebikes and e-scooters have a great future in cities, or anywhere. I made my own ebike using an old mountain bike, a 1.5 kW hub motor and 10 drone batteries (1.3 kWh) and charge it using 300W of also homemade portable solar panels that fit in a rucksack. Great fun on mountain trails, and has a range of at least 50 miles before needing to scoop up some more photons! Riding on sunshine feels great!
I will, but am still gathering footage. I have a video on my channel describing the battery pack and solar panels and some of the design issues I've found and solving.
Honestly Robert, you're like a cross between a drama queen and a kid with a new toy, but you do bring a lot of joy to us. Thank you! Go check out the sleek Gogoro scooter with its battery stations as well as the Mahindra Genze 2.0
There are multiple moto sharing companies poping-up across Europe. Most of them use the electric scooters, because it's more economical for them to recharge the scooters by swapping the battery.
When they were talking about the batteries I got excited. Here is why: when I was at work today I zoned out thinking about solutions for EV and apartments and it was a removable battery or battery/charger that you bring inside and charge. So I am happy that this was being thought off as well
Nice to see you actually went for a sustainable method of transport legally, no matter how many people decide to ride the chances of filling up the roads is very low compared to driving a car. However some car drivers can't just jump on a moped and ride it, they have to get the category added to their license now.Good show.
Another great video. If I was still living in London, I would ditch my car and buy one of these in a flash. It's so small I could probably even take the bike inside and save on parking.
I'm not a scooterist, but I am a motorcyclist and bought a Zero DSR in June. Completely besotted with it! Nice to see you tackle this market and hopefully you'll get onto the EV motorcycle market again soon, as things have moved on since your video with Danny John-Jules. I've started a 'Zero Interest' playlist in my channel now to complement my 'Living with the LEAF' playlist, just to spread the EV love and am flying the flag for EV's within my local Coventry/Warwick IAM group. :-) I was hoping to get to Malvern tomorrow for the EV event, but have an IAM group ride to Bakewell. Sadly, I have to do that one on the old dinosaur juice bike. Even though I still love the old, trusty steed, the Zero just gives a warm (and very brisk) glow!
Something like this sounds perfect for my Friend.. The buses either do not go exactly where he needs them to go, or he has to change 3 times with long waits in between. Obviously the initial cost at the start is a problem.
+Colin Richardson you know you can make up to like 3k a year tax free, he could do something to make money. wash cars, bit of garden maintenance, dog walking, stick it in a tin and boom. also good for job hunting.
+Matthew Stamp the Germans releasing new battery technology now. go further with very fast recharge. the price of oil soon to crash. only tax revenues keep it high.
When I visited southern China (Canton province) last year, the city was full of electric scooters. There was literally not a single petrol driven one. I don't know if it was government subsidies or just resource monopoly and cheap labour combined but those things were as cheap as 320€ new. When I told people that this was surprisingly progressive for a city where the air makes your eyes burn, they told me it had been like this for years.
Robert, I liked the Vmoto reference to the UK-sourced motor controller. It's the Sevcon Gen4, as you've experienced in the Twizy and Riversimple. It's also in the excellent Zero Motorcycles range and the Polaris Ranger. Our high voltage controllers are commonly used with YASA motors, as I saw in your episode from their HQ. Watch out for our future projects, lots of exciting vehicles on the way.
Every time I comment I never know if I'll get a laugh from Bobby or a telling off, anyway you suit the scooter. Will you do one bit of a fully charged in full Kryton gear when you are filming sometime? Kryton just plugging in the Tesla would be far too good! Be good for the channel too I'd bet!
Last year I was looking for a new car; an electric one. I was hoping they had become cheap enough but still found them too expensive for what I'd get and after some searching I came across electric scooters. I was very surprised with the price of them, cheaper than an average gasoline Vespa. I ended up buying a NIU M+ Sport for its great range to price ratio and I havn't touched my car since. I skipped the teenage scooter phase because I was mad for cars, but I now realize what I missed out on (as he said at 3:40). After 10 years of driving cars I'm now driving a scooter, even during the winter come rain or shine, and I havn't touched my car since last summer when I bought the scooter, which has now already ran 4500km without issue. Its top speed lays between 45 and 55km/h depending on the battery charge and with some modest driving you can easily get a range of 70-80km (40-50km flat out). In the city it's faster and free to park, outside of the city you're able to take the beautiful scenic routes through the country where you'd never go in a car. I can heartily recommend it.
that removable battery with wheels is really smart. i've been thinking for a long time that electric scooter does not usually work in city because you don't have a place to charge batteries for it.
Bob, thank you for another nice report. May I suggest that you release 3-5 minute versions of your reports for the busy subscribers? Thank you for your consideration.
they sound very reasonable given the cost of public transport and taxis now, i can see them selling well the detachable battery is a great idea, although most city journeys are less than 15 miles
Greetings! I really enjoyed your soundeffects: 6:49, 13:54, 14:03. Very nice action-speak. What did it fell like again? I support you on Patreon, thank you for the excellent videos.
i drove a leaf the other day. first time i drove an electric car, and i adored it, but i think i need more time at driving an electric car to get used to it before i think about getting one permanently.
I live in China and I rarely see a push bike these days - except the public bikes. My e-bike goes 60kmh easily, accelerates faster than most cars and can travel >40km on one charge (and that's not conservative riding). Everyone uses e-bikes here. In fact, due to the attractive pricing, some of my friends even have two! My e-bike cost a little over 200GBP.
I would be extremely wary about buying any vehicle that cheap. To put things into perspective even the shittiest pushbikes on the entire UK market - Halfords Apollo bikes - cost more than your electric scooters do in China :S
Actually electric scooters are fabulous. I have a NIU M1 which gives 3 miles for 1 cent!!! That's dirt cheap. It has 100km range and I have had no problems yet
I used an e-moped for commuting for a couple of years. it was great, especially after I converted it from lead-acid to 1kWh lithium-ion (1/3rd the weight for more range). It's still kicking about my shed - I really ought to flog it to someone.
Too funny! Thanks. As a matter of fact - facts are important - I get 130mpg (UK gallon) / 47kpl from my 150cc Honda PCX scooter. A new / well maintained 50cc scooter will give about 200mpg (UK gallon) I am not denying that electric is better in many ways - it obviously is. I am not saying petrol is better in more ways than it is not. I would like to see a big increase in electric scooters here in Japan, where in the last 12 years I have seen precisely one model perhaps two or three times, which is both pitiful and surprising. Well done Vmoto, I hope you grow and grow along with all other electric bike makers. Now offer me an exact electric equivalent for my Honda PCX 150cc commuter and I will buy it immediately.... oh, once I have a house where a cable will reach (I live on the fifth floor).
Hi Robert, Good riding for a novice! You picked your feet up cleanly and kept them up even at pretty low speeds. With that level of confidence, you should definitely do your CBT, then you could test some of the faster EV PTWs, even if you don't want the hassle of taking a test for a full license. Have you seen the Gizmag review of the Lightning motorcycle? I just love the bit with the Trombone!
200th like yeahhh...I feel the excitement of a 10 year old. That jacket looks good on you Sir. Nothing much to talk about E scooters they are simple and awesome. Did ride one of those back in 2010 no re gen though .
I own a couple of cheap electric scooters here in China . They are much cheaper here , but also lower quality . Everybody has them . The lead acid batteries last a couple of years , and a new set costs about $100 here . The range slowly decreases as the batteries slowly degrade , and you replace them when it becomes a problem . They are just fine for short hops and are quiet and clean . Only about 1% of people wear helmets while riding them in China :-)
hi Robert whats all the new hype about super caps being used instead of batteries? I would be nice if i could get a comment back please. I love the battery scooter, I have been using one for over 2 years now, but mine has 3 wheels
I have Chinese scooter called UGBEST Romex which have a feature that I can't really live without: The rear wheel, which also is the motor, doesn't have the tyre directly mounted on it, there is a removable rim, just like a car, so I can easily switch to winter tyres and back every year, which is necessary for me, since I take it to work all year here in Sweden. I hate that this feature seems to be very rare.
Great show as always , the thing ive never understood is 30/30 rule if you to compare these machines to an everyday two stroke moped you would actually find they dont mach up one tank of fuel will take over 80 to 100 miles, when electric scooters started coming over in the 2009/ 2010 law was past to restrict these devices to 30 miles range as to deter people from buying them , and as to date they still have that desired effect, as you have stated they cost is the same but you only have 1/4 of the range , not appealing at all, dont get me wrong i love electric scooters ive now owned four but they are old versions with lead based energy system, im thinking maybe someone of your stature could could start a campaign to have this ruling changed ,please OB1 Kenobi your our only hope.
Surprised to see the eMax logo. I have an eMax scooter from back in 2003-2005. I thought they had gone out of business. But I guess that was just he US distributor that closed. I wonder if I can get parts.
I like these. Did a google for electric scooters and there are lots bellow 2 grand. I'd like to get on the electric vehicle movement but an electric car is a big commitment. One of these could be a nice starting point :)
Isn't that scooter covered under the AM category of a standard drivers licence? Surely, that means that `L' plates (and `D' plates in Wales) are not required.
Robert, just do the CBT - it only takes one day and you can ride much more versatile scooters/motorbikes than a moped. 28mph limit is way too low/dangerous for riding in a city full of 40 and 50mph roads. Even 30mph streets can be dangerous when car drivers insist on driving 33mph and overtaking you. I like the swappable battery in that smaller scooter, though. The larger one is nice, but I wonder why it can only do 40mph. For reference, max allowed power of 11kW should be enough for 70mph.
BTW, currently (by far) the best electric scooter is BMW C Evolution. Not only it is much nicer than Chinese scooters, it also reuses i3/i8 parts and technology so it is an interesting take on electrification by BMW. It would really like to see you reviewing it.
You must be joking. Average speed in London is slow. The only fast roads in London are the circulars and overpasses. Also anything above 50cc requires a proper bike license
I agree i've got one and the acceleration and on hills it goes quite slow which seems to really frustrate cars to point they do stupid overtaking moves which kind of forces me to adopt a more bicycle type riding position to the far left - going on 40mph roads is very scary indeed - but no CBT needed for one of these if you have had a driving licence prior to the change
When I lived in Taiwan I saw a EV scooter called gogoro,, they didnt charge thier scooter instead they just switch battery at diffrent battery stations FC show, please check them out
In Berlin there's eMio for a year now. You can drive the scooters until they're empty and then switch to another one … and the company behind it drives around and switches the empty batteries for full ones.
I also lived in Taiwan just recently and I rented a Gogoro for a day on my scooter trip around the island and it was amazing. Even though it was rated as 125cc equivalent it accelerated much faster and even had a Tesla like race mode which made throttle response almost even too much to handle. I also rode it up a mountain and back down doing 100km of riding and the batteries were still half full. Plus the battery swap stations are the perfect solution for taiwan as most people park their bikes on the street and would not have facilities to charge them themselves at home. So far Gogoro has sold 150000 fully electric 100kmh top speed scooters and has 90% of the market share of electric road scooters there.
My brother has just got one and kindly let me have a trial the other day. Well I was most impressed Amazing ! - Trying to encourage my son who is a Teacher to look at one to get to/from School each day (20 mile round trip) for that it would be Brilliant. I thought you could ride this on a full Car Licence ? I was OK as had a Motor Cycle Licence, but do you have to take a test to get rid of L Plates which I think are only allowed for 2 years ? OK you answered this later in video, so I presume OK to ride on a full car licence in UK Also a tip for riders of these "YOU ARE INVISIBLE" ride that way and keep safe. Also a HIGH VIZ Jacket good idea. Great Video Loved it well done.
One point - You don't need an L plate for an equivalent e-moped 50cc 28 mph restricted bike if your car licence is as old as mine and I presume yours Robert ?
glad you clarified you don't need L plates if you have a 'grandfather' car licence - mine is the same maybe older as its 2015 - only 10 miles range - 48V 800W - but only cost £900 great for nipping into town and back
I'm struggling to understand why the battery on the bigger bike is 50kg. I've done some calculations and to get 48v, 100ah you'd need about 390 3500mah 18650 cells. That's only around 18kg. So it's massively overweight. They must be using Lithium Iron Phosphate cells rather than 18650s.
inserting that u don't need a cbt. I was under the impression you had to have a cbt for all scooters upto 125cc or 15bhp and was the law. guess is different for electric bikes?
UK Motorcycle licence laws: www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-requirements Just thought I'd leave this here for people who are interested.
Scooters really are well shaped for it, with the batteries under your feet, they are ever so balanced. :)
Great show. I can really see these scooters doing well in the city. Nice way to reduce the noise and air pollution.
I remember where I've seen this guy - he was the host of the Scrapheap Challenge! Oh, the memories :)
jekader I'm afraid he was much more than that :). Robert Llewelyn also played the role of Kryten (the ship's Android) in the famous UK humour laden Science Fiction TV series "Red Dwarf". Yes, a Series 4000 Mechanoid is a versatile, economical and thoroughly trustworthy addition to the modern home...
i had an electric scooter but i had to sell it before i shifted towns i realy miss it it was awesome for commutes to work and i had solar panels to charge it from at home.
have a great day

I'm buying an electric scooter with custom solar battery system in my garage to charge!!
Great video! Ebikes and e-scooters have a great future in cities, or anywhere.

Riding on sunshine feels great!
Sounds great, you should do a video about it, I'd like to see how you did it. Seems like you may have a future in Ebikes yourself!
I will, but am still gathering footage. I have a video on my channel describing the battery pack and solar panels and some of the design issues I've found and solving.
Can you let me know were did you get all parts to build it?
Honestly Robert, you're like a cross between a drama queen and a kid with a new toy, but you do bring a lot of joy to us. Thank you! Go check out the sleek Gogoro scooter with its battery stations as well as the Mahindra Genze 2.0
this channel restores my faith in humanity 😂

Had I known you'd be riding past my house, I'd have waved!
Nice little scooter... I think I'll stick with my Zero SR, but it's really good to see Fully Charged reviewing more bikes.
Love your shows! Makes so much sense for city and town travel.
The Jeremy Clarkson of electric vehicles! Love your channel
I know I can go and look it up but can we have more detailed tech specs please Robert? Battery kWh would be a good start.
I was hoping to get to Malvern tomorrow for the EV event, but have an IAM group ride to Bakewell. Sadly, I have to do that one on the old dinosaur juice bike. Even though I still love the old, trusty steed, the Zero just gives a warm (and very brisk) glow!
hi, could you please add the metric equivalent of miles and miles per hour in the video
And MPG!
This information would be very welcome.
Guess this is what you get by watching UK based shows...
5 miles is roughly 8kms. 30mph is roughly 50kph.
Divide by 5 multiply by 8 to get Km and Kph
+maxpesh 1 km/h is equal to 1.6 Miles. and miles per gallon is not necessary here
He needs a double L plate for Llewellyn.
Oooh, missed opportunity right there!
thats Four L letters
Is that the chair from Matrix? >.>
Something like this sounds perfect for my Friend.. The buses either do not go exactly where he needs them to go, or he has to change 3 times with long waits in between. Obviously the initial cost at the start is a problem.
only £100 odd a month for a year and it's paid for the little one. I think that's very reasonable for the little runaround!
He on job seekers, needs the bike to get to interviews/potential jobs..£100 a month is almost EVERYTHING he geta
+Colin Richardson you know you can make up to like 3k a year tax free, he could do something to make money. wash cars, bit of garden maintenance, dog walking, stick it in a tin and boom. also good for job hunting.
3 bus journeys is over a fiver, a one day travelcard is over a tenner, it would pay for itself in no time
A £20 bike will get your JSA friend where he needs to go. You're not trying to blag a free gadget from VMoto are you?...
28-30 milles in a 3 hour charge is really good
go easy on the throttle though.
+Alan Riley no full charge is 3 h and it goses 20-30 miles so that's change time v range not Speed it's a good change time
+Matthew Stamp the Germans releasing new battery technology now. go further with very fast recharge.
the price of oil soon to crash. only tax revenues keep it high.

It's just possible Kryten may have had a hand, or recharge lead about his person when interacting with a certain Tesla Model S :-)
did he get an erotic "charge" out of it?
Nice job riding! This was a fun video and a good one. Thanks for sharing it.

Great informative show as per usual.

I support you on Patreon, thank you for the excellent videos.
I really want to know how you got such good audio (voice) whilst barreling along at 30 mph.
I would expect a lot of wind noise.
Have you look at the Kubo Cargo Scooter
bob.... you have tried it... are you tempted by the dark arts of two wheels?
I would love a bike again....

As a matter of fact - facts are important - I get 130mpg (UK gallon) / 47kpl from my 150cc Honda PCX scooter.

I think when vehicles have swappable batteries and spares can charge while driving through roof mounted panels that will be a game changer.

When are you going to upload the Ecotricity charging for charging video?
can't waiting for the review of the larger electric motorcycles.
I wonder if they will sell in the USA
Love the show! Could you guys review the Boxx Corps scooter?
I think 90% of electric vehicles in the UK are 4-wheeled mobility scooters. Are they worth a video?
very informative, where can we buy this in USA?

I like these. Did a google for electric scooters and there are lots bellow 2 grand. I'd like to get on the electric vehicle movement but an electric car is a big commitment. One of these could be a nice starting point :)
Are there supposed to be ads playing before your videos?
I think that is fairly standard with UA-cam these days.
How are they doing today??
I would , and will, be going somewhere very, very quiet for a first ride to get used the feel and ride!
Isn't that scooter covered under the AM category of a standard drivers licence? Surely, that means that `L' plates (and `D' plates in Wales) are not required.
Yes Robert, the best car drivers are the one's who also ride motorbikes,,,,,,,,
I would love to see you ride one of these in Shanghai.
It would really like to see you reviewing it.
its also 13 grand....
Yes, I skipped on that "detail". 13.5k is way more I am willing to spend on a scooter. But then I don't buy new BMW cars either.
You must be joking. Average speed in London is slow. The only fast roads in London are the circulars and overpasses. Also anything above 50cc requires a proper bike license
I agree i've got one and the acceleration and on hills it goes quite slow which seems to really frustrate cars to point they do stupid overtaking moves which kind of forces me to adopt a more bicycle type riding position to the far left - going on 40mph roads is very scary indeed - but no CBT needed for one of these if you have had a driving licence prior to the change
i live in the US, in Georgia. where can i buy one?
whats the wheelsize of this thing? Looks like 8 inches. be careful not to fall into a hole
Love her shoes.
When I lived in Taiwan I saw a EV scooter called gogoro,, they didnt charge thier scooter instead they just switch battery at diffrent battery stations
FC show, please check them out
They've expanded to Berlin afaik and possible other European cities.
So far Gogoro has sold 150000 fully electric 100kmh top speed scooters and has 90% of the market share of electric road scooters there.
try the Zero S next!
What is the life of the battery and how much is it to replace?
2:12 that green BMW 02 ohh myy
At about 6mins seeing you run towards the blue Lorry I sow the little I new of u flash past me
My brother has just got one and kindly let me have a trial the other day. OK you answered this later in video, so I presume OK to ride on a full car licence in UK
Also a tip for riders of these "YOU ARE INVISIBLE" ride that way and keep safe.
They must be using Lithium Iron Phosphate cells rather than 18650s.
gone on the website and its got no info on how to buy! this vid was 2016! its now 2019
I'd love to have a scooter that I can swap out the wheels for tracks in the winter.
vmoto such an awesome company they make such a affordable product vmotor will lead the future
So whats the price?
I would like to see a model that can do 70 mph with a 100 mile range and an extractable battery. . Would I be able to buy it in the USA???
inserting that u don't need a cbt. I was under the impression you had to have a cbt for all scooters upto 125cc or 15bhp and was the law. guess is different for electric bikes?
Nice! Scooters with combustion engines really smell... And they are noisy too.
UK Motorcycle licence laws: www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-requirements Just thought I'd leave this here for people who are interested.
I freaking love London...
Wow i want one of those little things

Why not also test electric kick scooters? Some of them can now go up to 20 miles of range at 16 mph, like E-Twow
Nice job VMOTO but You should do GOGORO review Kryten
