Hey, Amber, so glad you got to see Whiteface and Lake Placid! I lived in that area for a couple years, and it is SPECTACULAR! A walk around Mirror Lake is fun, too. Enjoy your spa day!
Great video! I've white-knuckled it a lot along 101 in WA--scary stuff. I have a Class C and felt like I was going to fly off the road sometimes. Probably because I'm a newbie. Love Lily! She has a bit of Snark-a-potomous in her too. Cute!
Hey, I just got back from whiteface mountain and I loved that scenic drive all the way up. I drove from NYC, Queens with my Kia Spectra 06. I upgraded my vehicle last year and took care of its maintenance which is why I didn't hesitate driving towards these whiteface adirondack appalachian mountains. I drove to Lake George, Whiteface mountain and then to Niagara Falls, NY. After driving to the summit, I hiked with my 6 year old daughter to the top and we both enjoyed it. It started raining on our way down and my little girl slipped few times while I was holding her hand from these rocks. Glad, she wasnt hurt thanks to almighty God. Before traveling to such locations, check all 4 tires, brakes, engine oil, transmission oil, power steering oil, brake oil, steering wheel, anti-freeze, and windshield washer etc. As long you dont see a check engine light on your dashboard while driving to the mountains thats all it matters. I did 1500+ miles of driving within 4 days. It was a great adventure though.
Isn’t that scenery amazing. One of the reasons I love living in New England. Wait until the Fall colors come in…. It will be breathtaking. Thanks for bringing us along on this part of your journey. And Lily….. how cute she’s protecting her treats…. The “I love you” is so precious!

Thanks for the trip up Whiteface. We will be camping in the Adirondacks in a few weeks and I was looking for something to do. I knew biking, hiking, boating . . . but I also wanted a drive. I'll pack a lunch for the break on the way down.
Just found your channel from Nomadic Fanatic so a new viewer. Grew up a couple of miles from Ausable Chasm so this vlog was full of great memories. Sorry about the scary Whiteface drive though. Yeh, it can be intense.
Hey...My husband and I had our business in Lake Placid NY...the place is super busy for all 4 seasons...Ausable Forks has a lot of history and the river is a great place to fish when drought isn't prevalent...we went down the mountain & over to Ticonderoga NY across the Lake to Vermont then drive north on RT 7 to Burlington...We found that we enjoyed the roads in winter better than in summer... the potholes freeze up..great area for apples and cider... Cheers from Maine
Just found your channel. It amazes me that you are doing this alone. I don’t think I could do this. But, I so enjoy watching the videos. Lily is so adorable. She looks like my girl Lilo.
Get a cheap laser thermometer. Check tires, brakes and wheel bearings every fuel stop. It will tell you you have an issue before you have a breakdown. If something is getting hot it is a warning, especially if three wheels are cool and one is hot. You will know when your brakes are cool enough to proceed. $20-$30.
Beautiful scenery! Thanks for sharing. What app is giving you the elevation as you travel? And one last thing, I could see a reflection in your sunglasses of you holding your camera phone with one hand while you were driving. I would suggest getting another holder for your phone like the one that's holding the GPS phone. You can just aim the camera ahead so we can see the scenery where you're driving. That way both of your hands are free to be on the steering wheel which I think is safer. That's my opinion, I know, but you do you. It's just a suggestion.
I was coming here to suggest a GoPro or some sort that she can stick to her windsheild, either facing outwards or inwards. That way, as you say, her hands are free to stay on the steering wheel and it's much safer. I don't know about the US or Canada, but it's illegal to be holding your phone whilst driving here in Australia (though a lot of people still do) and you could be fined a lot of money if the cops caught you even touching it whilst driving!
OMG. My friend lived back in the Ausable Forks area. I was in all the places you were in today many times. I am headed there next summer in my LTV. Most beautiful area!!!

I was just at Whiteface Mountain a couple of days ago. We took the elevator up but then a storm rolled in and they shut the elevator down, so we HAD to take the "stairs" down (there is steps at the bottom, but the rest is basically rock climbing) 27 stories. My arm and leg muscles still hurt lol, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat for the view up there. Wish I filmed it though, it was wild when the thunderstorm rolled in around me on those rocks.
The Adirondacks are incredibly underrated. I grew up in upstate NY and everyone I knew took vacations to Lake Placid. I currently live in Ohio and am amazed at the amount of people who don't even know the Adirondacks exist.
Wow Amber, thanks for pointing out the hot brakes problem. I will find someplace to park my travel trailer, unhitch, then ascend and decend the mountain. Going to Blue Ridge mountains later, have a KOA booked to park before I explore. Thanks again, stay Beautiful.

You're right in my country there Amber. My first job in Wilmington was 3rd shift permanent pump house operater on Whiteface mountain ski center for my first 2 years. I can remember skitching down the mountain at 7am every morning. beautiful winter sunrises 🌄 thanks for your efforts and upload 👍
@@storychasing we were in the middle of nowhere I was frantically looking for a place for us to stop. Finally found a gas station and we just stayed there for about an hour to let them cool. Seriously, there was smoke coming off the brakes. I couldn’t figure out what the burning smell was till I saw the smoke. Mountain was so steep it was inevitable!
Beautiful up there! Biking will, or should, eventually help your knee. I wondered about "tapping" your brakes, though: with ABS (assuming you've got it), tapping can actually lock up the steering. Better to ride them gently and pull off as needed as you did. Speaking of bikes, I did have to admire the technique of the cyclists on descent as you passed them. Wow.
Many world class athletes train there, many different sports. There is an Olympic training center in Lake Placid which hosts many competitors in training from around the world.

If you have arthritis...you should always exercise your knee or it will eventually get stiffer...that's what my grandfather used to tell me...I had knee surgery in 1998 and it bothers me yet...but I keep going and stairs is my way. Just a note.
Im not Click and Clack but I learned using low gear is what you need to do in situations like you experienced Use Lower Gears to Go Downhill When you start to head back downhill, use your engine and transmission to slow the car down instead of the brakes. Shift to a lower gear before you start heading downhill, as this will help slow down the car without you having to ride the brakes, says the National Park Service.
@@storychasing holy cow and you still had to lay on your breaks?! Damn I would have made a poopy in my pants had it been me! Thank goodness you made it down without incident!

Crazy descent. Glad you made it safely! I’m inspired by your videos! Thinking of doing the same or moving to Mexico! Can I ask who did your van build out? I’m sure it’s in one of your videos, or drop a link to it?
Went to Lake Placid when I was 19. We drove up to the top of Whiteface 🏔️. It looked all misty. Dad said something to the ranger about the mist. Ranger LOL... said it's not mist sir....you are in ☁️☁️☁️.
I was in a rental car, stuck behind a van that rode their brakes on the way down Pike’s Peak, with practically nowhere to pull off. We got to the ranger station and both of us had to stop to let our brakes cool off. I made certain I left just before them for the second half 😂
Traveling With Joe LOL .... that sucks for both of you! It might have been overkill to stop as much as I did, but there's nothing worse than the feeling of "what-if". So I took my time and pulled over often.
@@storychasing You were absolutely right to stop frequently. They sell trinkets at the Pike’s Peak halfway point that say “Hot Brakes Fail” for a reason.
In the 70s I used to live in Saranac lake, and I used to make it a point to go up white face at least two times during the season that it was open, each year. It was always breathtaking. However there was a place once you parked your car where you could walk INTO the mountain and take an elevator up to the top and then walk down. Perhaps that’s been closed. But when you said they were too many steps to climb I was wondering why you did not take the elevator up. Indeed it has been many years since I was there but the elevator up made it very easy, just simply to walk down
@@storychasing After you parked your vehicle and you began walking toward the main entrance, to the left there was like an archway, and you would walk into this very deep tunnel that had lights, and the walls were wet with water, I would say the tunnel was probably 50+ feet long that you actually went into the mountain. And then you came to an elevator…. And that would take you up very slowly to the top. You could enjoy the magnificent view and when you were done you could either take all those steps down, which I always did or go back the way you came in. I remember when I first moved into that area, I was so taken up with the beauty of that mountain and I would talk to the residence of that area and some of them actually told me that they had never gone up the mountain…. And they had lived there all her life! I had also been to Ausable chasm’s which were also stunningly beautiful. I remember when I was living there I would get angry that they would even dare to charge for something that they didn’t create so others could enjoy it. It just seemed so wrong. It was a breathtaking area. I lived there for six years.

Nice to see the latest video and your face!
Jennifer Blackwood 😊 lol Hey my friend. So good to hear from you. Oh venus!
I love “mean girl” Lily!
PnPrailroad 😊 Oh what a beautiful sight that must have been so early in the morning too.
Moved my son to Seattle and while driving through Montana his brakes started smoking. We were pulling a trailer. Scary for sure!!
cheap shot 😊 Yikes that's scary. Did the brakes cool enough to keep driving?

That would scare me even though I've been up to Yellowstone Nation Park . It was beutiful be safe out their .
Connie Osburn Thank you very much! 😊🙏
Another great video!
It’s A Good Life With Dora & Ed Thank you very much! 😊🙏
@@storychasing absolutely. Trying to learn from your vlogging style. Dora
Lily don’t bite the hand that feeds you! 😂🥰
GarboFilms LOL ....
Im not Click and Clack but I learned using low gear is what you need to do in situations like you experienced
Use Lower Gears to Go Downhill
When you start to head back downhill, use your engine and transmission to slow the car down instead of the brakes. Shift to a lower gear before you start heading downhill, as this will help slow down the car without you having to ride the brakes, says the National Park Service.
My Gypsy Adventure 😊 Yup I was in 2nd gear the whole way down and still had to tap the brakes constantly.
@@storychasing holy cow and you still had to lay on your breaks?! Damn I would have made a poopy in my pants had it been me! Thank goodness you made it down without incident!
Glad you made it off the mountain safely. Hope you enjoyed the spa and you nice and relaxed.
sonia kolesar LOL .... stresses me out just editing this and remembering how stressed I was then. I'm much better now and so much more relaxed.
Lily and my little Ichabod would make a perfect pair lol
He's a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix and does that face but if someone keeps taunting he will follow through
Janet the HipGyp 😊 oh wow...I think Lily would too.
Crazy descent. Glad you made it safely! I’m inspired by your videos! Thinking of doing the same or moving to Mexico! Can I ask who did your van build out? I’m sure it’s in one of your videos, or drop a link to it?
Lynn N 😊 It's made by Hymer, but they are no longer in North America. The closest thing to it now is a Winnebago Solis.
Went to Lake Placid when I was 19. We drove up to the top of Whiteface 🏔️. It looked all misty. Dad said something to the ranger about the mist. Ranger LOL... said it's not mist sir....you are in ☁️☁️☁️.
Check out Fish Creek in Santa Clair( Saranac Lake area) NY. ,Happy Birthday 🥳
Thank you! Will do!
Looking forward to Hershey! I miss the northeast scenery.
Lola Saxby 😊 Me too! Hope to see you there!
I liked your reward for making it safely down the mountain! 🤣
Take the gondola to the top of little whiteface. Also awesome
50! No wayyyyy….looking good gal.
She says don't take my food you had yours my doggie dose that too lol!
Connie Osburn LOL ....
Drilled and slotted rotors for mountain driving. Next brake job swap them out. You will notice the difference.
Lilly’s little snarl. 🤣
Barbara Wheel LOL ....
Indeed it has been many years since I was there but the elevator up made it very easy, just simply to walk down
Pj Cardone 😊 Oh...I didn't see any indication of an elevator to the summit. Just the stairs that look like the Great Wall of China.
You always have the best videos. Lily is off the charts cutie pie💕❤️♥️
😊 thank you...I kinda like her myself. lol
