    QUICK NOTE FOR FOLKS HERE: I've had a lot of negative comments from people angry that I'm ranking the albums the way I have and saying that some are better or worse than others, when in fact that is NOT at all what I've said or the point of this video at all. I mentioned in the introduction that I was basing my ranking on how often I still play these albums, especially those that get played from beginning to end, and that's it. I love ALL of these albums, there are no "worst" albums here for me. Just because I put one album at number 11 and another at number 4 doesn't mean one is so much better than the other, it's simply a matter of how often I still play the albums, because some just get played more than others. I try to explain why it is with each album, but overall understand that I am a massive KISS fan and all of these albums are great. And my opinion is subjective and means nothing to anyone but myself anyhow :) This is all just for fun, cheers everyone. - Larry, Geeking Poetic.

    Dressed To Kill and Rock n' Roll Over are also my top 2. for a long time C' mon and Love Me was my favorite KISS-song. It's so f**kig catchy. The production of Rock n' Roll Over is stellar!

    I wish they would officially release the 1973 demo. Those songs ended up on the first 2 albums but those demo versions are killer!!! Aces Solos are killer on that demo I know some of the demos were released on the box set but I want a 5 track demo official release

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  6 днів тому

      I agree. I really hope in the near future we get a boxset for the first album complete with all the demos and some early live shows, maybe a new remix/remaster of the album too, like they did for Destroyer and Creatures...

    I was a huge Kiss freak in the 70s. You couldn't see any part of my bedroom walls because they were covered with all things Kiss! But they were fazed out after Dynasty. I saw the Love Gun tour when i was 11. Alive! Is my favorite album followed by Rock and Roll Over. The 70s rocked for sure. I miss waiting for new records coming out about once a year. Ace rocks...!

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  11 днів тому

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting! That's amazing you got to see them on the Love Gun tour, I wish I had been able to. Alive! is an incredible album....I might revise this list in the future and add in the live albums too, it felt wrong leaving them out.

    • @1wickedgroove
      @1wickedgroove 10 днів тому

      @GeekingPoetic Yeah, it was pretty amazing. It was like seeing superheroes in real life! And nothing was cooler than Ace's smoking guitar solo... I'm lucky to have had a great Mom that made it possible.
      P.S. thanks for the cool vid!

    I agree on Dynasty. Fun album, and disco isn't the theme. Just that one hit caused it to be labeled a disco record.

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  11 днів тому +2

      Yeah, even evidenced by some of the replies on this video people still call it the "disco record", which is ridiculous. Imagine if they'd not put those two disco songs on that record and instead put something from Paul and Peter's solo albums on there instead, noone would call it the "disco record" at all. Can't label a whole album after two freakin' songs, but they do it anyways *sigh*

    Oh such a hard task to critique there vast catalog of awesome tunes ! As far as the solo albums are concerned I have to say that each solo album has its own FLAVOR so it really comes down to my mood for that day, hour etc. One day its all about Ace next day its Gene's etc. That goes for any of the other albums as well. Thank you for another STELLAR episode !!!!!

    Hard for me to single one Album out from KISS'S output in the 1970s Love everyone. All the cover art on each album so awesomeness. I absolutely love the Dynasty album cover. Classic photo..I'm a huge fan of all 1978 solo albums. The cover paintings are so iconic and the colour scheme for each member around the hue to match each personality.
    Love your list man. All your rankings are cool to me. Cos i love every 70s record they put out....

    I saw my first Kiss concert in Oakland, Ca, 1976. I was 17. Though I wasn't a big fan and I'm still not of Destroyer it did get the girls listening to Kiss. That and some of Dynasty.
    I realize too the live versions of what's the first Kiss album are probably better, for the most part, but you can't ignore the quality of the songs. I "spin" that one the most.
    Thank you for your video.

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  10 днів тому +1

      Oh no without a doubt, like I said in the video the songs on the 1st album are stellar. I think people misunderstood my intention a bit and that's my fault, I should've made it more clear.....when I mention that I prefer the live versions, I'm explaining why I just don't spin that album too much anymore, simply because when I want to hear those songs I'd rather hear the live versions. But in no way is that meant to denigrate the importance or awesomeness of the studio versions in most instances! I ranked these primarily based upon which albums I spin the most frequently and from beginning to end.....not meant to be indicating that any of these albums are "bad" or "worst". They're all great! I should've done a better job making that clear I guess, but I'm still learning :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    It's impossible to objectively rank ANY music and have everyone "on board" with your opinion. Kudos to you for putting this out there.

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  10 днів тому

      Yeah exactly, I've been a fan since the 70s and have had many real-life debates and arguments with other fans over this topic for years, and as you can see by the lists people have shared here we're all so different in our tastes and preferences. To me that's part of what makes listening to KISS so great, it isn't a stale or same-y catalog by any means, can appeal to so many different tastes and moods but still somehow always sounds like KISS, at least to me! Thanks for the comment and checking out the video.

  • @jimlenz8321
    @jimlenz8321 10 днів тому +1

    Great video, Larry! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights! I love checking out album ranking videos. And I'm ecstatic that everyone's preferences are different. Our top two albums just happen to be the same. After that, it's all over the place. However, the point that I'm trying to make is- your list is 100% spot on. Because, it's YOUR list. Everyone's ranking is correct. This is just a testimony to how great of a band KISS is. And what they've meant to all of us, through the years. Hell, you could have put Peter Criss' solo album at number 1, and I still would have hit the thumbs up! And, in reference to your point about the live vs. studio opinion. Completely agree. In fact, to go one tic more extreme. After hearing the Strutter Demo. I have no interest in ever listening to the studio version again. The demo version has more fire and bombast than both the live and studio versions. Also, I really dig the KISS trading card boarder you put around your screen! Great job, brother!

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  10 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment and checking out the video! Yes as I said in the video and in the comments here, there is no "correct answer" when it comes to a list like this, the truth is that the only list that matters is your own. Plus I mean, every album here I love to some degree, I certainly have no desire to trash these albums as they mean a lot to me and so many others out there. It's just fun to see how people's favorites compare and contrast! I'll have more ranking videos up soon, and hopefully you'll check 'em out. Cheers!

    No matter what order these albums are in, that's all subjective, it shows a great catalogue of rocking music these guys made in such a short period. 11 studio albums in 5/6 years is phenomenal. And I play them all regularly, even Peter's solo album when I am in a more mellow mood. I even have Take Me as my as my ringtone lol

      @GeekingPoetic  2 дні тому

      That's exactly right! I mean honestly even asking me to rank then again in the near future and it'll probably change lol. All of these albums are great and the fact that this was all created in such a short amount of time is really amazing. Thanks for the comment!

      Haha man I understand, I do actually love the Love Gun album but I just don't play it too much anymore, I mostly play the live tracks from Alive II (or other sources) and only really revisit LG to hear "Almost Human" and "Got Love For Sale", two of my favorite Gene albums. Yeah I mean honestly, I could do this list a month from now and probably wind up shuffling the list by then because it's all down to my mood and listening habits at the time, I love 'em all! Thanks for the comment dude, cheers.

    On KISS Vinyl, I have Alive! (1975) coming in. I'm 29, so I never had a chance to get this when it was first released and I'm very excited to spin it on my (admittedly cheap) record player. My only problem with the used vinyl I have coming in is that it's missing its booklet :( going to have to buy it separate so I have the total package. I'd like to get some of the vintage action figures, but I'm going to go that route after I get the albums up until 1982 on vinyl (might return to collecting post-Ace stuff, but Ace is my favorite, so I'm less inclined to collect the rest).

    • @GeekingPoetic
      @GeekingPoetic  11 днів тому +1

      Nice, yeah I love that booklet that came with Alive, that was one of my earliest memories of the band when I saw that booklet that belonged to a friend's older brother back then, he played me the album while I stared at the pics in the booklet and I was hooked!

      @skomyjester 11 днів тому +1

      @ its a vital piece of that album I agree! I probably could have gotten a better price or gotten a complete set if I shopped around, but I’ll be honest as soon as my post-Christmas paycheck hit it was an impulse buy lol. Hopefully finding the booklet wont be too difficult.

    When they remastered the catalog in 1997 I snagged all 4 solo albums cause I kept hearing the Japanese market was issuing mini LP versions in 1998. I believe with most of the world the ‘97 reissues are still the common release. As they were only around for about a year in Japan I can’t bring myself to open them lol I still have all 4 Japan 1997 solo cds still sealed with OBI. I have all of the USA cds so I can still listen to them. Really Aces solo is the only one I listen to regularly lol I also still have my Strutter 3” mini cd set (5 cds) I’m sure you have this as well. All 5 cds have the same 3 tracks. Each member has their own cover and a group cover. I love how Paul has his original Bandit make up on 🔥🔥🔥

      I love DtK and its 'bubblegum' sound, I think this would have suited most '70s Kiss songs overall very well. I certainly prefer it to Ezrin's echoing production style, never felt it suited Kiss. I even prefer HtH's dungeon sound to Destroyer, it just keeps sinking in my rankings so many fillers on that album with one track in particular worth it all, the opening song of course.

    Hotter Than Hell has the best riffs, and the proto punk/garage rock style of production lended the release some street cred, along the lines of albums from The New York Dolls and The Stooges. It's down and dirty, but all killer no filler, and I'd rank it as my personal fav, with their debut coming in a very close second.

      Bah. lol Dynasty isn't a "disco" record, it's got two songs that qualify as being disco at best. Magic Touch, X-Ray Eyes, Save Your Love, Hard Times (one of Ace's best, IMO), 2000 Man, Sure Know Something and Charisma have nothing to do with disco, and are some of my favorite songs of theirs. I'd take the "disco" songs over Then She Kissed Me and Hooligan any day. Christine 16 isn't a strong song but at least the live version has a bit more energy to it. Tomorrow And Tonight rocks live but sounds tepid and forced on the studio album. I stand by my ranking of Love Gun, but I knew people would get all up in arms about it, haha. I've just never cared for that album's sound overall, especially coming after Rock And Roll Over which sounded huge and aggressive....And then listen to how huge and energetic the new songs on side four of Alive II sounded that came after Love Gun. To me, Love Gun pales in comparison. But again, it's still vintage KISS and I still have a love for it, just not as much as the others I put after it. Cheers.

Then she kissed me was cool twist on an old song, they did it really well, play it with passion. But you ditching Hooligan over I was made for loving you says all we need to know here lol. FYI, I actually grew up during that era. I roller skated to that crap song. Dynasty is Kiss playing into the Disco craze. Gene even said HE hates that song. That song alone is the biggest black mark on KISS's entire history and album discography. Google "Why is KISS Dynasty their most hated album?" I personally love every song on LG. Hooligan always felt kinda clunky to me *shrug* Again man, y'know we can argue about this all day long haha but truth is these are all great albums. Even though I rank Love Gun low on my list, keep in mind that I still like it way more than, well, thousands of other albums out there! I played my Love Gun 8-track hundreds of times ( I actually still have it!) back in the day. It's just not one I listen to very much anymore, like I said I prefer the live versions of those songs and usually I'll only put it on if I want to hear "Almost Human" and "Got Love For Sale", which are two of Gene's last truly killer songs he ever did, I have to admit!
