This lecture should be history curriculum in every American school, university and collage, though I dear claim that the estimate of 60 million buffalo possibly is too low. There are those who believe a more exact estimate is up to 80 million. Nontheless, I concider the deliberate slaughter of the great buffalo herds, basically happening from the mid 1860's with the establishment of the railway, troughout the 1870's to the mid 1880's, is the most monumental and outrageous misdeed in human history. It's literally a crime against creation. That's something to take into consideration for so called christian Americans, and all those who believe in Pledge Of Allegiance. Then, in addition to all this, and as described in this lecture, the eradication of great herds of antilopes and mass killing of vast amounts of other species of wildlife, just adds to this monstrosity. It's such a great shame on the US nation that finding words to really describe it is close to impossible. And it all happened due to human greed and to destroy the livelihood of several cultures and a way of life.
I don't think the 60million number is far off. They used the current state of the plains to determine that other number. in a healthy ecosystem where animals can graze and migrate that 60m number seems low. Regenerative agriculture proves this on every front.

There are errors in how this figure was calculated. It isn’t based on carrying capacity at all. It’s just an estimate based on the size of one herd.
