I live in Malaysia and it took about 2 weeks for it to arrive here and that was about a month and a half ago I don't have a review because when I wanted to install on my bike, I realised that my top tube had a dent. So instead of getting the bike shop to install the angleset, I went back to them and claimed a replacement frame as it was still under warranty. Sweet video, thanks! I ended up doing this to my anthem 2018. It's so slack, love it. How did you determine the BB drop to be 3mm. I feel like it's more like 5-10mm (large frame). It's much lower, something to get used to but I'm sure won't take long.
Sweet! glad it is working out for you. I absolutely love it and will look to do this on any Giant I have in the future. I used a frame design calculator to come up with the measurement of 3mm but it could be a few millimeter lower than what that frame design tool came up with. I measured and it was pretty close to that 3mm so I went with it.
Thank you for this video! I just ordered a set to fit on my 2014 Scott Genius 720 - I saw you are using the works components top-cap as well ? Do I have to install that or just replace the cups and use the rest of the headset I had, like the starnut etc?
Sorry for the delay, You can use your original star nut. You will replace the cups and the works components cups come with headset bearings and covers so it all goes together nicely. But yes you can keep your star nut.
Actually Giant gravel bikes have a different head tube set up. It is integrated which means it does not have the cups that you can pop out so it won't work for the Giant Gravel or Road stuff.
Is that with the stock headset angle? Pretty sure Pivot has an inset headset so would need a different brand. That could be the one complaint with this but honestly it was not an issue for me. Front wheel stayed down even on the super steep pitches.
Thanks for sharing this video! I am looking to do the same to a 2014 Anthem and thinking of adding 20mm of fork travel to slacken the HTA further. By the way, how much travel are you running on your Anthem?

@@BlackWaterCyclist yes I have investigated this but the medium anthem would be just slightly too small for me. The problem is that feeling of not being able to fully dig-in and control the front wheel when it's pushed to the limit on fast single track.
I have the Anthem Pro 0 2018 in Medium. Looks to be the same as you. Any comments about why you choose the 2.0 over 1.0 or 1.5 versions of the angleset?
I ride with my saddle very far forward so I have a lot of weight forward in the wheelbase of my mountain bike so I like to have more front center than some may want, so I was looking to get as much front tire in front of me as possible. It really balances out my weight perfectly and gives me gobs of confidence descending.
Thanks for the great question! I would probably try the bike out stock first and see what you think. But yes if the Orbea has the removable cups, then yes you can use this headset. 68 degrees should be perfect for a Hardtail and yes you would go with the one degree slacker option to achieve this. 66 degree maybe a little much but could make it a lot of fun!
@@Paganiproductions84 oh ok I gotcha now. Yeah that would be what you would go to for the 67 degree. It would definitely give you more front center and I think make it better, especially on tricky descents.
Yes it actually works with other companies. I would email works components and ask. They are great and helping you find the right headset. Just glancing at your bike, they should have a model that works.
No it will not damage the frame. The frames are made to take some pretty harsh treatment. It some ways it can actually be less stress on the head tube area since the fork is absorbing the hits better being more slack.
@@BlackWaterCyclist part of me wishes I just bought a bike with a slacker head angle in the first place. But being a beginner with a budget I went for a cheaper bike and have slowly been upgrading it. Apparently putting longer forks on gives you a slacker head angle but can cause the frame to crack. So thanks for this video and your response. 🙏✌🏻
Hi Richard. here is the link. On the drop down menu, you will see "Set 1 - 90-99mm". You will choose that option for size medium. www.workscomponents.co.uk/20-degree-ec44-zs56-angle-headset---to-suit-tapered-steerer-tube-945-p.asp
@@RichardJacinto Yes it is the same as the 2013 Anthem. Giant has kept the same headset cup set up for awhile now. Here is the link for the one I ordered: www.workscomponents.co.uk/20-degree-ec44-zs56-angle-headset---to-suit-tapered-steerer-tube-945-p.asp
I have a 2019 Giant 29er 1 (alloy) the current HA is 66.5. I am only thinking of 1 degree max change. Do you think this would improve the descending for this bike. Not too bad now but I would like a bit more for some of the steeper terrain and roll overs. Also, does Works have a chart or info telling you which headset to buy for your bike?
Hi David, it would definitely help with descending. 1 degree is a good compromise. Your headtube is the EC44/ZS56. This would be the one to need. Be sure to pic the right length head tube as well in the options. www.workscomponents.co.uk/10-degree-ec44-zs56-angle-headset---to-suit-tapered-steerer-tube-1160-p.asp
Hi ! I have a steel frame with 68.8 angleset with a 100mm fork. The manufacturer states I can go up to 120mm, but I would like to go for 130mm fork. Do you think that a 2 degrees angleset can compensate the geometry change ? Thanks
So 20mm is roughly about 1 degree change in head tube angle. So going with a 10mm longer fork is only .5 a degree slacker. With 30mm up front, you will slacken your head tube 1.5 degrees to 67.3 from the 100mm fork. Honestly, if I were you, I would just run the 130mm with no adapters or anything. That 10mm is not going to put a crazy amount of stress on the headtube and the Angleset is not going to make it "within manufacturer recommendations". It is really the length of the fork that adds the stress to the head tube, not really the angle so much. I would also argue the slacker headtube would be better for the headtube since it gives the fork a better angle of attack at soaking up the bumps and everything. But honestly, 10mm is not going to over stress your frame.

@@Paganiproductions84 oh ok I gotcha now. Yeah that would be what you would go to for the 67 degree. It would definitely give you more front center and I think make it better, especially on tricky descents.
I love the trance but just a little too slack for me
You could steepen it up with this headset.
Hi, is this headset compatible with other bikes? I have scott genius 930 from 2015 and I am about to do this upgrade.
Yes it actually works with other companies. I would email works components and ask. They are great and helping you find the right headset. Just glancing at your bike, they should have a model that works.
@@BlackWaterCyclist thank you man.
I wonder if it will go the other way for a trance ?
Hi Scott, yes it can make a head tube angle steeper or slacker. Thinking about steepening a Trance?
@@BlackWaterCyclist thought about it..i know They'r made for the gnar..but no gnar and reduced slack would be a beautiful thing for the trance..
My bike is a 68 degree head angle. Would doing this not damage the frame at all ?
No it will not damage the frame. The frames are made to take some pretty harsh treatment. It some ways it can actually be less stress on the head tube area since the fork is absorbing the hits better being more slack.
@@BlackWaterCyclist part of me wishes I just bought a bike with a slacker head angle in the first place. But being a beginner with a budget I went for a cheaper bike and have slowly been upgrading it. Apparently putting longer forks on gives you a slacker head angle but can cause the frame to crack. So not going down that road. but I’m tempted to try this type of head set. To see how it feels. Don’t regret getting my bike and I’m enjoying learning more about upgrades and stuff. So thanks for this video and your response. 🙏✌🏻
I have a Medium 2018 Anthem 29er 2. I want the 2.0 kit. What size do I need?
Hi Richard. here is the link. On the drop down menu, you will see "Set 1 - 90-99mm". You will choose that option for size medium.

@@BlackWaterCyclist Thanks, I recently placed an order. I'll let you know how I make out.
@@BlackWaterCyclist, does your bike have 1.5" to 1.25" steerer? My 2013 Anthem does. If not, what kit should I order?
@@RichardJacinto Yes it is the same as the 2013 Anthem. Giant has kept the same headset cup set up for awhile now. Here is the link for the one I ordered: www.workscomponents.co.uk/20-degree-ec44-zs56-angle-headset---to-suit-tapered-steerer-tube-945-p.asp
@@BlackWaterCyclist This will work with 1.25" steerer? I reviewed the replacement bearings and ID is 1.125.
@@BlackWaterCyclist thanks mate
If I install a 120mm lefty8 fork in a anthem 29r, I need to change the head tube angle?, I know IT Will works.
Can I bough to you from Colombia?
Hi Lucho! I would imagine it would work fine since the new lefty has the same steerer tube as other forks out there.
@@BlackWaterCyclist thanks Man, IT is so helpfull.
If I Put a 3 position blockout for the suspensión system, I Will lose the pívot point?, or IT Will works good on IT?
Thanks for sharing
*Components. Not composites
Yes I actually put that on the video in editing. Good catch. Funny how you can miss little things like that when making a video.
