Black Dynamite is a 2009 American blaxploitation[3][4][5] action comedy film starring Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, and Salli Richardson. The film was directed by Scott Sanders and co-written by White, Sanders, and Byron Minns, who also co-stars.
The plot centers on former CIA agent Black Dynamite, who must avenge his brother's death while cleaning the streets of a new drug that is ravaging the community. The film is a parody of and homage to the blaxploitation genre and its era. It had a trailer and funding even before a script was written. Black Dynamite was shot in 20 days in Super 16 format. The film was released in the United States on October 16, 2009, for only two weeks (with an "official" premiere at the Toronto After Dark film festival) and was well received by critics
In the early 1970s, Black Dynamite, a Vietnam War veteran and former CIA officer, skilled in kung fu, vows to clean up the streets of drug dealers and gangsters after his younger brother Jimmy is killed by a shady organization. O'Leary, Black Dynamite's former army and CIA partner, reinstates him into the agency because they do not want him seeking vengeance by himself. While trying to get to the bottom of Jimmy's murder, he finds out that his brother was actually working undercover for the CIA. Black Dynamite also discovers the shady organization is filling the black orphanages with heroin. He declares war on local drug dealers and successfully cleans up the streets, earning him the affection of Gloria, a Black Power activist who works at the local orphanage.BlackBusters is a podcast focused on reviewing, celebrating, re-living and critiquing Black film. " I threw that shit before I came in the room!" Classic line🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite movies! Watched it for the first time at my bachelor party. “I threw that shit before I walked in the room” became a running joke for a long time.
"Maaaaan, who dare knock when I'm plannin to plant my..."
DY-NO-MITE!
"Main man Black Dynamite!"
One of the funniest movies from start to finish! Hands down! Great job fellas
The fact they didn’t mention Ray Ray from south central being Bullhorn is hilarious to me 😂😂
Y’all gotta do “Soul Men” next week Now THATS a mf’n classic
I absolutely love this movie. Reminded me of Undercover Brother with Eddie Griffin, another legend. But with all due respect, Black Dynamite is a way better movie by far. Another great Black Busters episode!
I’ve never seen “Black Dynamite” but I watched this review! That’s how much I love this podcast.
Love, I need that black card up off you lmao but nah , have a couple drinks or whatever you do to be extra happy and watch it. Shit is over hilarious imo. I say it’s in the top best black people movies , comedy wise. It ain’t no they cloned Tyrone bullshit
G when tommy davidson finally got to order at the restaurant😂 bih do u see us?
Y'all just don't understand; when I was a kid in the 70's we *lived* for these movies man! Black Dynamite took me all the way back to "Three The Hard Way" "Slaughter" and "Black Gunn" like a mug!! 🤣🤣🤣❤️🖤💚
They didn't even notice that Brian McKnight was one of the pimps! And Captain Kangaroo Pimp was ACTUALLY the original Captain Kangaroo! 😂
This movie is so underrated......and so fycking good 💯💯💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was blatantly clear that this movie was Michael Jai White's love letter to the blaxploitation genre of movies.
Y’all gotta do “Do The Right Thing”
I need that Black Dynamite hoodie!!!!
Review Friday Fellas!
The Outlaw of Johnny Black is the western version.
Please review "Fear Of A Black Hat". This movie is hilarious!
Sarcastically im in charge
Michael Jai White for Panthro in Thundercats!!!
I love when they first infiltrate the building or lab at Kung fu island but as they stalk with their rifles one of them is talking like it's a Vietnam flick then gets popped by the evil boomerang or something
They gave way worse movies a 5 🤔
On the real bruh! WTF?! Black Dynamite had way better rewatch value than Soul Plane, Woo, and I can keep going.... All Star cast. Great acting, cinematography is on point yet they struggled to even give it 4 ✊🏾? Who are they pandering to?!
This a 5 for me
For the recast Michael Jai White could be replaced by Wesley Snipes easily in my opinion
I put it on .. on Amazon prime... I couldn't get into it.. it was too silly for me
Kim's character had a hanging tear on her left eye and each scene it would go away and come back. The bullet casing was wrong, they only had hand guns! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣. Great movie!
i would love to see the origin stories for all the characters.
new Black Dynamite = The Rock
PLEASE DO "GRIDLOCK"
Michael B Jordan as Black Dynamite?
Top 3 personal favorite 😂
One of my favorite movies!!!
Yes. And yes!
Yooooooo!!!!!
Larry Dickem.
The sequel has been finished. "The Outlaw Johnny Black" stars the actor who played Black Dynamite as a cowboy. not Michael Jai White playing him, but the ACTOR who played Black Dynamite. 🤣 ua-cam.com/video/6XLXSOG7zBo/v-deo.html
Yessssssiiiiifrrrrrr
The rock ? Or looking for young actor
17:21 Cedric Yarborough had the best adlib ever! "But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!"
Chocolate Giddy Up 🤣
This is one of the best satire movies ever. Michael Jai White was the best option for Black Dynamite and the movie as a whole was tastefully done and legitimately funny as hell. It deserved its own cartoon series as well and I wish they'd do more seasons of that too. Euphoria interrupting Black Dynamite's speech was the funniest random scene in the movie.
Best option cause he wrote it
She not trying to go back to Crenshaw P and them hot ass coat hangers
The cartoon was 🔥 🔥, especially the Mike Jackson episode 😂😂😂
Hilarious lol
The white slave episode is puuuure comedy! “ NEEEGGRRROOOOSS… changed my name from Timmy to Jerooooooommmee” 😂😂😂
Shamon!😂😆🤣
I knew i was in trouble as soon as I seen the HNIC ninja 🥷🏽
Roscoe's Chili and Donuts coming at cha! Another classic!
😂😂😂
Michael Jai White actually tried to get a remake of "The Last Dragon" made but, he couldn't get the funding to make the movie.
Fund this movie somebody. PLEASE
Comedian GODFREY might be able to play BLACK DYNAMITE
26:50 bruh! We watched it with our oldest son who never seen it before. When we got to the diner scene, my son was like, "how do you know all this?! Why aren't you teaching a class?!"🤣
Euphoria got snapped on cuz she always finished his lines when he said some slick rhyming pimp talk😂
When I first saw this movie, I laughed soooo hard. I love blaxploitation films so this was right up my alley. If they ever decided to do a part 2 I just want to be an extra in it. I love everything about it. The playas meeting. “Chocolate Giddiup” “Bitch do you see us” I mean I quote this movie so much!
“Ha ha! I threw that mafucca before i came in the room!!!”
The best line in the movie. I had to pause it from laughing so hard.
DYNO-MITE! DYNO-MITE!
Jah is Tiberius hood hitman definitely would have fit the movie
But black dynamite I sell drugs in the community?!?!!!😂😂😂😂
Watch the Animated series!!!!! It’s fixed and complement the movie well!!!
Michael Jai White should be a Hollywood powerhouse.. It is crazy that he isn't.. The Black Dynamite cartoon was off the hinges as well.. I hope that you do Blood and Bone next..
I think one the best parts of this podcast is that they let you what movie is being reviewed in advance. I have seen "Black Dynamite" in quite sometime but since I knew it was this week's movie, I rewatched it and remembered how great the movie was
Big fan!!! I’m patiently waiting for the review on Posse!!!!! Such a classic many forget just how classic it is💯
Also mo’money and low down dirty shame
That movie was hilariously funny. The Brian McKnight pimp scene has me crying everytime I see it. And when Bullhorn girl asks him what he would like and he goes "Yesss I would like some of that ass!!" I died laughing...
Captain Kangaroo Pimp😂😆🤣😆😂
Girl 1:"my mama said my daddy name is black dynamite."
Girl 2:"...so did my mama."
Black Dynamite:"uhhh...hush up little girls. A lotta cats have that name..."
You need to watch Jim Kelly in Black Belt Jones, which is a primary inspiration for Black Dynamite. The pool hall, the Hip Pocket, is from Black Belt Jones. Those sounds Black Belt Jones makes when fighting are imitating Jim Kelly.
The technical mess ups are actually a reference to Dolemite (1975)! When a home release dropped they released it in the wrong aspect ratio, so you can see a lot of the cast, crew and equipment all the time because of it! My favorite one of Black Dynamite though is the several times the actors in the movie Black Dynamite break character to walk off the set cause the scene is over but the editing left too much at the end. Kills me every time.
So I refused to watch this movie prior to knowing y’all were doing this podcast on it. Idk if it’s because i knew it was a BlackPloitation type movie or what but I finally watched it. This mf was funny…. it gave me Low Down Dirty Shane mixed wit the Mac vibes…..
I think if they did the Black Fu cinematic universe Bruce Leroy could definitely be the big bad…… At some point and time BL goes bad because of something that happened to his wife or students….. Some point in the movie he has to say in response to a question, “Sho Nuff”…..
Black Dynamite pays homage to the black movies of the past very well 💯
When he was explaining Vietnam tho. His lil Chinese arms…. His lil Chinese legs 😅😅😅😅
"said something to me in Chinese... Something like bOKO-SOW -sounded like some cartoon shit"
He apparently says an actual Chinese word that just means "you're full of shit"
Black Dynamite is one of my favorite movies and the cartoon was great too.
Outlaw Johnny Black has to be next! Michael Jai White killed that too
I say "Chicago Wind"'s line when I dip in traffic.😎
They cloned Tyrone basically used this script for the movie.
The best part of the movie is that Michael Jai White takes multiple scenes and actualines from select Blaxploitstion films. The hilarity increases when you know those films. Watch "Disco Godfather" and "Human Tornado". It takes the jokes to the next level. Brilliant
Also the pimp council is almost a shot for shot remake of the pimp council scene in Willie dynamite, with Isaac Hayes
MJW was trying to make a western parody film like this last I checked...
I laughed so hard from visualizing your story telling. I love this movie
Oh hell naw! You think "Woo" is better than this movie?!! How dare you!
I just saw this less than 1 weeks ago. I had to order it on BluRay.
He has a movie The Outlaw Johnny Black. I’d like see that.
Are y'all going to review Undercover Brother
No lie, I look forward to Mondays because of this. I listen to the podcast and watch the video once I get home in the evening lol y’all Brothas keep doin watcha doin!!!!
Only thing keeping Black Dynamite from a 5 on my chart is that it lacks a message/moral to be learned that gels it together.
I’m so glad I was off for this 😂. I had to go grab some greenery before I watched. Dude that said “but black dynamite” is Mr. Dubois from the boondocks. My favorite character from this is easily Bullhorn. That nigga had bars for days 😂😂😂😂”maaaan I said do ya wanna go oooon?”
You guys never disappoint love the podcast
For the recast I guess I could see King V or Minks as black dynamite
Movie hella underrated
So happy to see you guys are actually in the comments listening to our ideas! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Just discovered your channel. Subbed. I can't believe I never heard of this channel. Incredible film. Y'all popped up in my recommendations.
To really appreciate Black Dynamite and I'm gonna get ya sucker you must have watched about 6-10 of the top blaxploitation movies. Both movies parody specific movies and if you seen those movies its even funnier then just if u get the vibe of Blaxploitation they present. So classic
5 ✊🏿 for me.
Y’all should do “Hangin Wit The Homeboys”💯
I first saw this I think the year it came out and I was young enough to not realize it was modern but old enough to realize it was genius level comedy and eventually figured out it was this more self aware piece of work, but I didn't even recognize MJW in that role until after the movie looking it up.. and the whole cast lights it up. What a celebration of movie making.
Idk if they have a background in Martial arts, but maybe a good newer Black Dynamite could be Yahya Abdull-Mateen II? Or maybe Trevante Rhodes?…just a thought…
Initially I thought Bokeem Woodbine was Rasheed Wallace…
Michael Jai White should be Tombstone in the MCU - a street level supervillain in the Spider-Man universe
I can't wait till yall do UNDER COVER BROTHER & compare it to black dynamite
This is 7 months late, but "The Reverend Johnny Black" is essentially Black Dynamite in the Wild West and also has Michael Jai White and Bullhorn.
Wesley snipes is a real martial artist and can hit you with some comedy chops
Yall ain't nothing but a bunch of Blackbusters!!!😂😂😂😂🙌🏿💯
A fantastic movie in so many ways, one of my favorites, got a beautiful psychadelic poster of it hidden away. So silly and so clever , will take multiple viewings and so so funny
This movie is hilarious & i have not watched it in a minute. Can we please get reviews on the following movies that played homage to the blaxploitation area:
Action Jackson
Undercover Brother
Could Wesley Snipes play Black Dynamite? He is small, but he has the martial arts ability; acting chops and can be pretty funny..
You guys should review "Most Wanted" starring Keenen Ivory Wayans
Trevor Jackson could play black dynamite. Has acting chops and has been doing martial arts since he was about 11
get pimpin’ Jake out of my trunk, tell him, “the rest of my money by Wednesday or I’ll make him stick himself"
MJW is too old for Marvel that's why. They need talent that's not going to be like Robert Downey Jr. that'll leave in a couple movies
The care that these gentlemen put into creating Black Dynamite will allow that movie to last forever similar to the Naked Gun films(im sure the writers were fans) or Airplane and Im gonna git you sucka but took it to another level.
Usually it be tone giving some long drawn out bs reason for his rating, but this time it was big Jah cause he was definitely tripping when he almost give this a 3.5 cause of the ending 🤦🏿♂️. For this movie to be as funny as it is all the way through and bring back some of the main characters to do the voices for the cartoon and it be even funnier automatically gets this a 4.
