- The fist part of the American countertenor Derek Lee Ragin's appearance in the Aria And Pasta - a programme hosted by former singer Beverley Bergen in which opera singers talk about their work and cook a pasta dish (or assist the chef). Produced by Passionfruit Productions in 2000 (the first minute or so is missing, sorry 'bout that)... Derek Lee Ragin, of course, is well known as one of the finest American countertenors and as one half of the digitally recreated voice of the legendary castrato Farinelli (with the high notes provided by the Polish coloratura soprano Ewa Malas-Godlewska) in the 1994 movie of the same name. Here you can hear short excerpts of him singing works by Handel, Bach, Gounod, Gluck and African American spirituals.

I have wonderful memories of attending chorus class with Derek in high school, and remember the joy in his face whenever he sang. God blessed him with a gift! I am glad he is recognized for it.
One of the finest male altos in the world!! His interpretations of Handel and Vivaldi are superb!! Bravo, Derek!!!!!
Derek Lee Ragin is a true artist and gentleman in every way.
Wonderful documentary and story!! I met Derek while he was at Oberlin (c.1980) through my aunt, Jessie Reeder. I also met Ursula Stechow, whose husband Wolfgang was Professor of Art History at Oberlin.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful story!
Looking for Beverly Bergen. How do I get in touch with her?
Always,
Derek Ragin
