People who say "why isn't Marina famous" annoy me. She is famous. She has her own little fan base. She's not COMMERCIALLY famous (in the US at least), I'll give you that. But I think you'd be surprised. The other day, I'm A Ruin was #2 on iTunes. That's all of her fans buying the song.

Well, I think she was kind of "big" briefly when Electra Heart came out, she attracted a lot of teenage fangirls with that album.. But I don't think she will care that some of them have been weeded out by now. Obviously Marina IS famous, but I like that she's not a mega star. If she wanted to be a huge star, I'm sure she would be.
I am just happy that she's underrated. That makes her special and only people who understand the meaning of her songs love her songs.

I immediately liked this song, but it's amazing how it becomes evenmore powerful over the years. The album as a whole had to grow on me though. It's a lot, you know? Not in a bad way, but every song is very laden with emotion and it takes a while to wrap my head around it.

i like how most singers play the victim in songs like this, yet marina is different; she takes the role of the offending, not the offended.

It really fascinates me how Marina isn't 'huge', you know? Like she has solid talent, song writing and an actual personality. It's so interesting. There's something about her that doesn't quite fit into the mould. Is she alternative-pop? I dunno. She's so great.

Probably because she's independent and makes music that inspires her and really takes time to cultivate her craft instead of producing crappy songs that get stuck in your head while prancing around provocatively for attention.

A fact that nobody ever mentioned: Marina is, besides from her other outstanding talents, an amazing dancer. There is not so much explicit movement here but she definitely feels the music with every fibre of her body. It's also visible on her other videos.

There's a lot of aspects to this song that make it like no other. I listen to it all the time.
I was 15 when this came out and I remember listening to it religiously with little to no thought about what her lyrics meant. Fast forward 5 years and I'm 20 now. I understand every single word. I have loved. I have cheated. I have lost. I have had my share of beautiful men. I have done THINGS I SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE. I AM A RUIN but the beauty about MARINA is that she shows you it's okay to be a ruin. We're not perfect. We are young and stupid. MARINA found the exact words I was looking for but was too afraid to say them myself. I was hurting him and I knew it but it was just so much easier playing this lovebird facade than walking away. He left me, he was much tougher than I was and although it was hard, it was the best thing that could've happened to me. If you TRULY LOVE someone, never do anything to hurt them. Karma will get you. I learnt the hard way.
But did you truly love them than? If you truly love it is never too late. You can be melancholic about the chances lost or build up yourself and take a chance on love again.

Marina's videos are NOT boring. I think this was really cool and interesting to watch, and it went really well with the song. I also think it's fitting because Marina has a very unique sound, so her videos should be unique as well. Just because her songs are different doesn't mean they're bad; in fact, they're amazing. So why are people saying that a video without a "story" is bad? It's cool and unique, and I love how the video just follows the song's story, while most big artists today have songs that just go along with their videos.
