    I used your method of spraying grey primer straight down over the black primer on my last figure and it really worked a trick!
    It's a Penn State Linebacker circa January 1987 and the pants and definition around the pads and belt look real.
    Thanks

    You paint in a very exaggerated style, especially the face and hands. I like to blend the flesh tones much more to create a more naturalistic effect. I would suggest perhaps blending the paint a bit more and see what you think. But the final result is very impressive and when viewed at a normal distance the figure no doubt looks great. Excellent work!

    That "shirt" is a jacket, he's wearing an M41 Jacket under the M43 jacket. M41 jackets were often a "pea green" when new and then faded to Khaki over time.
    For example, you could have done a very faded looking khaki on the M41. This tells you he's owned and worn the jacket for a long time and despite it being replaced by the M43, he's kept it to use as an extra layer in cold (late 44/earlier 45) weather.

    The M1943 jacket should be OD7 (medium green olive drab) and the 'M1941' jacket he seems to be wearing underneath OD2 (roughly sage green) and much lighter. The trousers should be the same as the M1943 jacket. The colour you've used for the 'M1941' jacket is about right overall for a jacket that had seen some use as they faded from sage green more to tan. the trousers are a little too dark. Yes, he is wearing two jackets, but I am 90% sure that the figure is modelled on a photo of a tanker in winter doing exactly that. No all US Army tank crew got tanker jackets, especially if they were actually tank destroyer crew (e.g., M10). I can't fault the shading, etc., just the colour choices a bit. P.S. I am assuming it's supposed to be an M1943 jacket, although the lower pockets are a little wrong as they look a bit like patch pockets rather than internal ones. P.P.S., the goggle surrounds were a medium grey, lighter than here. P.P.P.S, M1937 wool trousers would have been more common, but M1944 trousers, the counterpart for the M1943 jacket, would be valid for winter 1944.

S. that if cold, wearing the greenish M1944 cotton trousers over the M1937 wool ones was not uncommon. They got issued new M1944, but they didn't force them to take their old trousers off first AFAIK!

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  3 роки тому

      its really down to personal preference really, I like to get the face out of the way early in the project as I don't need to worry about being neat near the uniform ect. Some modelers leave the head off entirely and paint it separately. In all honesty its really up to you when you want to paint the face or what suits you the most there is no real right or wrong when it comes to it.

    Mate you are a bloody Wizard. I only wish that we has access to this knowledge four decades ago when I was last modelling. I have just recently returned to the craft and have completed the build of an 1/35 Australian Centurion Mk 5. I'm going into the deep end and plan on placing it into a Vietnam diorama with suitable figures which so far have not been easily obtainable in Oz. Anyway, being ex Cent crew it's been a build of love. A lot of mistakes but it's looking pretty good. On the subject of this video, Tankies are either covered in sweat and dust or mud and rain PLUS, A LOT of oil and grease stains. Thinking into the future how do I go about reconstructing that look ?. Hmmmmm I have an 1973 image of myself and my Cent that I was going to post here but it doesn't look like I can ?

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  4 роки тому

      thanks for the very kind words! The Cent one hell of a machine! as for grease and other staining on the figures uniform, the best idea I can think of is get some of the grease and oil enamel washes and load a small brush with the effect you want to add, and then with a cocktail stick flick the wash onto uniform to great splatter of grime onto the uniform. Though less is more when it comes to weathering figures so only add small amounts and slowly build it up till your happy with it
      hope this helps.
