The commentary mentioned it’s out of Novak’s box of tricks but I find them more from Federer’s, especially the cross court low shots from the other corner.
It’s was not the right approach shot to come to the net. Sinner already anticipated the side, had lots of time and had to thread the needle between the advancing opponent and the right sideline. Just out of reach of his opponent. And he threaded the needle with ease. Great hands, great sense of court geometry.
Also, even it was a great approach shot, Sinner likely would have still threaded the needle. He is that good. Just look at the level 5 shots in this video, especially the ones against Tiafoe and Zverev. So the pass against Cerundolo was quite easy for Sinner to pull off.
