This was a lovely watch. How fortunate he is to have such documentation of his ancestor's life.

Excellent Lecture. The eighteenth century truly must have been an exciting time. It is probably my favorite period to study and read about. The British Empire under George the second and George the third grew massively in scale, the British economy was the world's strongest, and the a series of world wars were fought on all continents involving massive naval and land battles.

The clay pipes were broke on purpose when a pipe was shared with another to keep the mouthpiece clean for each user.

Did they Hang, Draw and Quarter, "Jack The Lad"?
If they did, he should have mentioned it, or maybe it's taboo to speak of their barbarian past in London these days.
I've read about him and it's a travesty, the kid must have been a genius, what a waste.

Maybe, but I'd doubt it. Drawing and Quartering was usually reserved for high crimes, wasn't it? Like, if you tried to assassinate the King or led a revolt or something.
Plain old hanging was standard method of execution for the lower classes.

"The poor were really poor, and the rich were very rich". Has anything changed in the last 250 years?

The poor then did not have enough food. The poor today are fat because they have too much food.

Hugely interesting and well researched but Mister Rendell's rendition is boring as hell....so dead pan serious and lifeless. No wonder most people take no interest whatsoever in history when lectured like this....He should show more enthousiasm, spice it up with some little stories and funny events of the days.....
