Reverend is a great brand, one of the few that have a unique style. Earlier this year I picked up a Contender 290, and I continue to be impressed. I love how much you can control breakup with the bass contour control. It’s a nice alternative to the volume.
Also, a quick shoutout for the Reverend string trees. Super well designed, minimal contact to reduce binding, it pulls down the G string in addition to the B and e strings, but it doesn’t pull them to an excessively sharp angle, only to approximately the same angle as the D string is naturally. I’ve put them on my tele and strats. I’d put one on my Jazzmaster if they came in gold to match the rest of the hardware.
I went in to a local shop and played a nice Gibson ES335 and then a Reverend Club King just for fun. I liked the Reverend better! The neck and tone were outstanding. For sure thinking of getting one esp. after this video. TY
I got a steal on a Rev Double Agent ($500!) in black with maple board, one of these 9A5 P90s in the neck and their HA5 HB in the bridge. I’d played a friend’s a year or two ago and I was kinda impressed but when this popped up, I couldn’t resist. And it’s a shockingly versatile guitar. The bass rolloff is a game changer and I can’t believe it’s not a standard feature on all guitars. It allows this guitar to go from Gibson to Fender just by rolling the bass off which also drops the output. Conversely, when you are playing with it rolled off, you can use it as an onboard boost if soloing. Definitely a brilliant feature. The satin roasted neck is heaven, usually about .84 at the 1st and ~.90 at the 12th. Very comfortable. Holds tune beautifully (though I will note I did block the bridge). When I unblock it, it does hold tune better than any other trem system I’ve ever used. There is NOTHING I don’t like about it except maybe the frets being jumbo jumbos.
That thing sounds really good. You sounded great through it. I'm shocked most companies don't do the bass roll of thing more. Seems like it adds a greasy bite to any position 😊
I had one of those, my first 3 pickup guitar other than a strat. Really couldn’t get past the feeling the middle pickup was in my way. Really loved the bridge and locking tuners on it.
Hey man I checked out your band, that song kicks ass! Am a massive stooges fan too. Do you like Down, Phil Anselmos southern rock band? Anyway just showing some love. Cheers from the UK!!!
That one sounds super good, cause you have the hands to make that happen. I have an HSS Squier 'fat Strat' that I put 2 soapbar P90s in to replace the single coils and the solution to your problem with picking the middle one is: to just dial it down in height and raise the individual poles on the pickup, Something you can't do with the single coils. It's worth the little work-arounds, I think, for my alnico 5 mix of clarity and beef.
That, is the Jetstream 390! Its my favorite Reverend. It has such a huge tonal range that will surprise anyone. Sorta like a much broader spectrum strat that looks like a Jaguar and the neck is like a Telecaster with its edges being more square toward the front of the neck. Edit: I forgot! I gave mine to my student with its case and hes improved immensely. This guitar, and a gretsch Duo Jet Electromatic. Hes really come super far in months, starting at 26 and hes already heading toward arpeggio and triplets and hes using both pentatonic scales well. Were working on feel live and loud right now, which is easy to teach if ypu can get loud enough to show how a giitar will change how it needs played when the volume increases.
An equally cool 3x P90 guitar is the Music Man Albert Lee. They made a bunch of them with 3 MM90 pickups (Music Man P90s), you can get hardtail or trem, and you can get piezo saddles. Really great guitars with a funky design and one of the most comfortable necks in the industry.
I like that Reverend decided to do something unique and not stick to the standard guitar shapes, could have been an another god forgotten stratocaster (I like strats). Also great bridge and middle P90 sounds.
I’ve been a Reverend Artist now for about 12 years. Joe Naylor is one of the greatest guys in the industry. Ken Haas and the entire gang working there offer some of the very best customer service in the entire guitar community. These guitars are very consistent. I’ve owned a number of them and they are so good one to another right outta the box. The only thing I change on mine is a roll the fretboard edges which isn’t a big deal. Not a fan of the squared off fretboard edge but easily fixed. Also a shout out to RailHammer pickups which are offered on certain models. Highly recommend both products. Cheers!
Joe and Ken are awesome! I’ve been a Reverend player/supporter since the beginning and think these are one of the most underrated guitars/basses out there. You definitely need to check out more models. 3 P90’s is one of my favorite p/u configurations, so versatile. Cheers!
They do a great job making different shapes look great. 🎉. I want their 12 string, but I’m trying to design my own. The library has added maker space so that will help. 😊
That color is a sleeper. It looks way better in this vid than on any of the sales pages. There’s a Ron Ashton signature version that sells for $100 more. Under reported fact is that the extra $$$ goes to a series of community charities that were close to Ron’s heart. One of which is an animal shelter. They make that information more readily available.
I have a reverend double agent og. It is the second guitar I've ever owned besides a squire. I blind bought this guitar after trying many guitars at my local guitar center but none feeling right. I swapped the stock humbucker with the signature Billy Corgan rail hammer hum-cutters. It has a cool design but most importantly it gives you a p90 sound with reduced hum. It sounds amazing in all three positions and the guitar looks awesome.
Reverend guitars are fantastic. I own a Reverend Charger 290 and it is an incredible guitar. The build quality, the pickups, the bass contour control, the sound. The neck is one of the nicest I have ever played. I'm a big fan.
the other day i was having a discussion on line about guitar pick ups, as you do as a guitarist, and i was saying that three single coils are better than two P90's, and someone said "well put three p90's on a guitar" and here it is.
triple p90 guitars have been around since the 50's. prs had this as a stock model option from the 90's until about 10 years ago when it went out of style.
I bought the Reverend Gil Paris model a decade ago as he and I grew up together. Its black, a bit heavy and sort of a LP copy. I don't like black guitars, heavy guitars or LP's. Its the first guitar I pick up every day. No set up out of the box, it was just perfect... Love it more than all my name brand guitars..
If it’s loaded with P-90s, it has to be cool. It’s also the only guitar with an “Antigua” style finish that doesn’t make me want to puke. In fact, it actually looks GOOD on this guitar! Those P90s have that little bit of hair in their tone that I love. Beefy and hairy just like my wife’s momma.
I’ve got a Reverend Double Agent OG. P90 in the neck and humbucker bridge. It’s a hardtail, which I prefer. And I love the bass contour knob. Really cool guitar, and they’re made less than a half hour away from me! Which is kinda cool imo at least.
So many people who try Reverend end up loving them, myself included. I now own quite a few. The neck pickups tend to be darker in tone that I would prefer, but the bass contour helps immensely in that regard. Overall, I'm crazy about the brand.
I remember when Reverend 1st came out. They didn't cost very much and was worth looking into and buying. Of coarse they start out with prices being affordable just to get them out to the public. After the 1st year and esp the 2nd prices started jumping. Great guitars.
"Unknown Hinson" (Stuart Baker) used to have a signature Reverend (basically a Club King). Check him out as he SHREDS! (Also funny as all get out!) He is a P-90 fan. Not sure what he is playing now (Tele?).
on my strats i have my middle pickup almost flat with the pickgard just because its totally in the way of the picking hand. Still functions so its there for sound options.
I loves me a Reverend guitar! I’d love to add a 390 to the collection. Don’t you love the neck? I’ve never held a bad Reverend neck. It’s immediately familiar.
A mixture of a 3 pickup "Fire-bird" with 3 P90s, a Fender Jazzmaster, a late 70s coffee-burst finish, 2 point standard stratocaster vibrato and a Burns Marvin neck all adds up to a "Revstar" vibe. Great sound though. The manufacturers are'nt paying video/audio reviewers enough. These 3 minute snuppets generate most of the sales of new gear from specialist brands that no-one knew about 5 minutes before.
iam in the market for a p90 machine but that middle pickup would probably be wasted on me, i only likethe the bridge and neck tones but i gotta say the bridge and neck tones were beautiful and that bass contour knob? Amazing bit of kit, no idea how I havent got one on all my guitars to replace my tone knob which I hardly use!
I think Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) has been playing Reverends for a while now (not this model, though) and I think he even has his own signature as well as pickups specifically designed or voiced for him.
Who cares? Has been. Oh let me go buy one since some weird dude plays one. Who does that? Oh yeah guitar players are a bunch of followers. The leaders already made it big.
Hey Rob does this competition extend into Australia? My mate is coming over to Nashville next week and is regarded as one of the great guitarist over here in his day…he is so looking forward to visiting the homeland of greats!
Yo! Reverend endorser, here! Got artist pricing om a Sensei Jr to replace my Tele/Esquire and let me tell ya. Absolute powerhouse. Super versatile and massive sounding. Came out of the box set up to par!
I believe many players fall victim to these perceived ideologies, that playing a certain brand or model. Will somehow make them more like their guitar heroes. I've made a point of only buying guitars that do something unique. This has kept me from buying so many more guitars than I already have. The thought of trying to exactly copy or mimic somebody else's style, never occurs to me? So that's my opinion about guitars too. I really enjoy having guitars that are outside the square box, 90% percent of players live in. You don't have to be the best guitar player in the room. Sorry for the delay announcing this we have a WINNER!!
Congrats Bill Taylor on winning!!
Cool Beans! Can't wait to get it! I'll make sure to post a video once it arrives!
Reverend is a great brand, one of the few that have a unique style. Earlier this year I picked up a Contender 290, and I continue to be impressed. I love how much you can control breakup with the bass contour control. It’s a nice alternative to the volume.
I'm a member of a Reverend Facebook group. They have an enthusiastic fanbase.
Have had a Jetstream 390 for about 3 years. All black with tortoise guard. Nice guitar.
You deserve extra points for that sweet kossoff riff in there. People forget how amazing he was.
Love what Joe Naylor is doing with Reverend. Not doing the same old formula but still keeping things familiar with graceful good looks.
Also, a quick shoutout for the Reverend string trees. Super well designed, minimal contact to reduce binding, it pulls down the G string in addition to the B and e strings, but it doesn’t pull them to an excessively sharp angle, only to approximately the same angle as the D string is naturally. G&L has it, though they call it PTB, passive treble and bass.
I had one of those, my first 3 pickup guitar other than a strat. Really couldn’t get past the feeling the middle pickup was in my way. Really loved the bridge and locking tuners on it.
Love that bridge and middle tone!
My one Wilkinson is a fantastic trem.
Sounds great Robert! Thanks to you and Sweetwater for the opportunity!
I like Reverend guitars. I had a Ron Ashton 3 p90 Volcano (V shaped). It was a killer guitar.
Hey man I checked out your band, that song kicks ass! Am a massive stooges fan too. Do you like Down, Phil Anselmos southern rock band? Anyway just showing some love. Cheers from the UK!!!
Love it...P90 overload! Have never owned or played a Reverend. I'm thinking maybe I've been missing out on something.
That one sounds super good, cause you have the hands to make that happen.

Your beautiful playing and sound in the opening already makes me want one!

A Jetstream 390 has been sitting at the top of my short list for a while now. Cool shape and three P90s.
You won't regret it
I had a 2006 Reverend with the 3 and it ROCKED so hard !
Neck and middle combo sounds fantastic
I love the sound of p90 pickups. Mr. Baker, you bring out the best in all the guitars you play.
I have 3 Reverends..... Awesome quality and their P90s are really good sounding
I like that Reverend decided to do something unique and not stick to the standard guitar shapes, could have been an another god forgotten stratocaster (I like strats). Also great bridge and middle P90 sounds.
It’s really nice to do these guitar giveaways. We appreciate it mate!
I’ve been a Reverend Artist now for about 12 years. Joe Naylor is one of the greatest guys in the industry.

I have the Reverend Baritone Tele, that thing is high quality, feels and sounds so good.
I love my rev double agent the buck shot is another favorite.
0:01 thats a reverend , man 😂
😅
Yup… headstock and sig give it away immediately

Looks and sounds great!
I have this guitar….love it. It has a very chunky neck and love the tremolo bar

Under reported fact is that the extra $$$ goes to a series of community charities that were close to Ron’s heart. One of which is an animal shelter. They make that information more readily available.
That gold top -ish burst looks so good. Cheers.
I got a Reverend Double Agent earlier this year. That bass contour can make its humbucker get that tele spank!
Lower the pickups and raise the pole pieces. My Fender Noventa has the same issue with the middle pickup. It's a quick easy fix.
Very nice piece you wrote to show off the Reverend!!!
Great guitar Robert, thanks for bringing it to us. Would go great with my Reverend Airwave 12 string
If you want a really nice one get ahold of the 90s Michigan made Reverends, the body on those is very interesting and awesome too!
Reverend has always had their own vibe, doing their own thing. Great stuff.
It instantly puts a smile on my face. I'm just awestruck at its beauty 😲
Love Revs!! I had a non reverse Gibson Firebird with 3 P90s...I miss that one sooo much
Beautiful sound ❤
That intro piece was really excellent!
I have 2 Reverends, and I love them!
I don't even have one P90 let alone three! All in a funky offset Reverend!
I got my first P90 guitar last year. And I’ve been playing for like 20 years. Add me to the list of “WTF was I doing ignoring P90’s”
Just got a reverend double agent og and I love it! Humbucker in the bridge, P90 in neck position. Beautiful guitar.
Great review and I love Reverend 290 and 390. The Airstream is also fantastic!
I really like the shape. it is time some new shapes / styles become iconic.
Those Eric Johnson chords in the intro. Nothing gets past my eye
Diaper Brown finish? 😂🧷
I prefer to think of it as smoky ceiling or buttered popcorn lol
Man, that finish friggin' rocks. Go buy a blue one.
All yukko finishes...which is a shame cos they sound great .

This is my favorite guitar that I've only played once! I own a Charger HB and Airsonic W, and hopefully the 390 one day.
I like the Reverend Bob Balch Sensei model and the Reverend Kyle Shutt Signature.
Reverend guitars are fantastic. I own a Reverend Charger 290 and it is an incredible guitar. The build quality, the pickups, the bass contour control, the sound. The neck is one of the nicest I have ever played. I'm a big fan.
P90 pick up sounds great and solid. Great body design not conventional form. Excellent crafstmanship. i wish I had one.
Neat. I have an 84 Explorer with 3 P90s. Fun sounds.
I own a Double Agent W and it is one of my favorite guitars. Truly amazing.
the other day i was having a discussion on line about guitar pick ups, as you do as a guitarist, and i was saying that three single coils are better than two P90's, and someone said "well put three p90's on a guitar" and here it is.

Yeah you do
Great episode thank you for your hardwork much appreciated 😊

I've been scouring Reverb for one of those 😀
I was an absolute Fender and Gibson snob till the day I got my Reverend Charger. Play this all the time
on my strats i have my middle pickup almost flat with the pickgard just because its totally in the way of the picking hand. Still functions so its there for sound options.
I've been playing a Reverend for years. Best fit and feel of any guitar I own.
I loves me a Reverend guitar! I’d love to add a 390 to the collection.

You a good guy Robert Baker. I like your style.
I love it when looking tuners are standard.
They are really nice guitars....I have played several of them at my local Guitar Center.
The sounds are great! The P90's would be really cool.
very impressive guitar! ty for sharing.
Cool guitar and appreciate it being given away.
Even on my strat i have my middle pickup lower. It gives me a noticeable warmer strumming sound even without my tone knob rolled back
Shaking’ it up!
As a worship director, it would be cool to use a Reverend on Sunday mornings. I’ve never owned one.
That's a great looking guitar, I dig it.
Dang that guitar makes all the boxes I want for my next guitar.
iam in the market for a p90 machine but that middle pickup would probably be wasted on me, i only likethe the bridge and neck tones but i gotta say the bridge and neck tones were beautiful and that bass contour knob? Great video, demo, and phenomenal axe work by you, ROBERT.👍👍
Tried a buddy’s Reverend, respectfully, just not my vibe. We all like what we like.😇
Reverend makes some cool guitars! I ended up with a Yamaha Revstar that reminds me of a Reverend.
Btw, P-90s have been my favorite pickup for about the last 7-8 years.
Never seen a guitar with three P90s. Really cool!
Yo! Reverend endorser, here! Got artist pricing om a Sensei Jr to replace my Tele/Esquire and let me tell ya. Absolute powerhouse. Super versatile and massive sounding. Came out of the box set up to par!
Love it!
That guitar is Beautifull!
Great video!
3 P-90's ? sounds good to me! has good sound for sure!
To understand that a hot rodded 6 string, speaks a language we can all understand.
A cool guitar is something that can transcend many barriers in a typical social environment. Money can't always buy that.
I hope someone gets this guitar and mods it into a killer! Peace!
