I had a conversation with David Sedaris once about his appearances on Letterman. This was circa 2003 before I got to introduce him at one of his readings. He told me about his first time meeting Dave. I recall him saying that Dave brought him into his office where one of Sedaris' books was on the desk. Dave then went through several pages, pointing out joke after joke and asking Sedaris, "How did you come up with this one?" It struck me as a really cool salute. Game recognizing game kind of thing. It was definitely a moment I won't forget: Insight from one of my favorite writers about my all-time favorite show.
I first learned of sedaris when he read passages of me talk pretty on NPR. Blew my mind. I pictured in my mind a woody Allen type. One thing is for sure, the sedaris siblings were some of the greatest guests of Letterman.
I don't think I have laughed more at a #Letterman posted UA-cam video than this. I knew Amy had a brother but I had never seen him on tv before. Thanks team Letterman.
The only other comedian who did late night that was also great with writers was Craig Ferguson. Maybe it was the same sensibility that made Dave a backer. That's also probably why they are the only guys whose shows I rewatch.
His style of humor reminds me very much of my best friend Flash. His books are very similar in style and type of humor to the book Welcome To The Crumple Zone by Flash qFiasco.
Strangely enough, though, they translated his books into French, and the French HATE him! Lol. Quote: he's no Jerry lewis. Another quote: Too much Dean, not enough Jerry! Lol

"Are those the thoughts of cows?" 😂 Adorable!
Me Talk Pretty One Day was the first audiobook I purchased back in the day when they came on half a dozen CDs.

His being on Letterman the first time was great, I recall he was an instant hit.
I remember watching this episode when it first aired. Bought that book and most other of David's works soon after. What a killer appearance.
Clever gentle humour ❤
One of the most entertaining interviews.
Before the dental work. I'm enameled by his work then and now. Very witty and thought provoking humor which is very filling.
Excellent dental pun.
@@vargaso
but no trigger warning so we could brace ourselves.
Hilarious....start to finish. Two great Dave's 😄 👍👍👍👍👍
a legend
He's a funny dude! And Amy is so great!
I wish this was five hours long.
Never heard of this guy. Pretty funny. I will have to go on a youtube binge.

Excellent interview
Wait ..I don’t think anyone has made Dave laugh this hard … genuinely
The audience laughs like he's joking about the healthcare costs in France, but he's not lying. That's the way it is.
Right, also anywhere else in the world outside of the USA, but hey we're "number 1"!
Looks young here, I guess we all did in 2000. He lives in Great Britain now.

You'd like Seth Meyers on these days
Conan O'Brien, too.
Great ties
Wow. Dave wasn't completely obnoxious. Just let David be funny, and helped set up the jokes nicely.

Look at those white socks! I love David Sedaris. ❤
I wish I could talk pretty one day.
until then u'll just have to get by on ur looks
time for a new one. credit on Audible for # minutes. david -you've become the people you put down.
Letterman can’t keep up
?
I'd love to like this but i don't want to be inundated with ancient Letterman uploads, or more early 2000s bookish gay comedians
Strangely enough, though, they translated his books into French, and the French HATE him! Lol. Quote: he's no Jerry lewis. Another quote: Too much Dean, not enough Jerry! Lol
@@pashadyne the source is in my tiny brain, and the lol is a HUGE part of it. Lol
😆 They just don't "get" him. Jerry Lewis. Pffft.
