    Great video sir. Need to do it more often. The tips are great and here in Brazil we don´t have too much youtubers like you to teach us how to do it on a W126.

      The sun roof gear box mechanism sits very close to the antenna.

      Problem is that there is aleays just a little moisture seeping through the various seals. It is not the best design and cheap aftermarket parts make this worse.

    The three wires on the aftermarket antenna I bought are - red, blue, and black (no green). How do I wire these to the car? Red - red, black - brown, blue - ? Many thanks. W123 1985 300D.

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes  4 роки тому

      The best thing would be checking the box the antenna has come in for a diagram. If I had to guess than I would say that the blue is the wire that actually gives it the signal (Plus on and off) to go up or down. Red should be permanent Plus and Black should be permanent Ground. I am hoping you can verify the wiring diagram of the antenna before you make a connection. Good luck!

    • @bmpvw
      @bmpvw 4 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks, I will check the box and report back. What will happen if I make the connection and it's wrong? Might I damage the antenna? Or my car?

    • @bmpvw
      @bmpvw 4 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately, there isn't a diagram on the box. All it says regarding wiring is this: "Easy two wire hookup connects directly to car audio switched antenna wire and unswitched power wire with bullet terminal." ???

    • @bmpvw
      @bmpvw 4 роки тому +1

      Ok, the box didn't have a diagram so I went to their website (Metra Antennaworks 44-PW530) and found some info (see below). I'm still very confused about where the red, blue, and black wires go. (I'm not electrically inclined).
      This is what they say:
      "Radios with Switched Antenna Wire - connect blue wire from antenna to the switched antenna wire from radio (normally blue). Connect coaxial cable from antenna to radio. The red power wire from antenna can be connected at fuse block, battery, or hot side of ignition switch, or any other +12 volt 'constant on' location."
      Will you help translate this to me so I know how to hook this up? Many thanks.

    Did you need to modify the factory antenna cable to adapt to the new antenna? The Mercedes cable I have has a very small pin that plugs into the hirschmann and is not compatible with after market antenn connections.

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes  Рік тому

      I took off the receptacle, on top of the old Hirschmann and connected the wires to the old antenna wires. This way I can always get another stock antenna and not worry about the connection.

    I bought a good used Hirschman for my 1987 300d w124
    But I can't find a rubber seal and cap. I bought a rubber seal from autohausaz
    But its so stiff its impossible to get it to seat. Do you know where to get the seal and plastic cap that will fit.

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes  2 роки тому

      Yeah, that is indeed a problem with those seals. Pelican or PartsGeek also sell the same type seal. They are all not made from great quality rubber and some crack after two years.
      You can use a plastic tool out of a trim tool set to get the seal to properly seat www.amazon.com/XBRN-Removal-Window-Fastener-Remover/dp/B07R44VJHN/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3RNY8P6DG6OK9&keywords=interior+trim+removal+kit&qid=1659142212&sprefix=interior+trim+%2Caps%2C92&sr=8-6

    How do you modify the upper plug (to the speakers?) line to connect to the OEM plug in? I can't find any videos that explain that part of the power antenna replacement.

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes  4 роки тому

      I am a little confused by what you mean by speaker. Do you mean the receptacle on the antenna? If so, you will need to take the big antenna body off in order to get the controller receptacle out. It slides out of the housing part and you will need to snip the wires that go to the control module. Good luck!

    Hey Ralph can you give me some guidance . I have an opportunity to buy a 1987 560 coupe. for $3500 with 156,000. The guy says there is a misfire on one of the cylinders. My question is is this usually a large or small repair I know this is like trying to see in the dark for you but give me your best guess. Also in terms of reliability, how do these cars fair. Thanks !!

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes  4 роки тому

      That is a loaded question. A "misfire on one cylinder" can be a fouled up spark plug, an ignition system tune up, a fuel injection system issue, or an idle control system gremlin. This can run you the range from 40 Dollars to a small fortune. For 3500 the car would need to be in tip top cosmetic and mechanical condition to be worth that much money and still have this engine issue. Chances are that the person selling you this car has already tried unsuccessfully fixing it. A cheap Benz is going to be your most expensive Benz you can buy.
