Reason Clois worked & Clana didn't is because Clois was always there for each other, no matter what Clark was doing he was always there for Lois and no matter what Lois was doing she was there for Clark. With Clana it was always a guessing game.
It's that and more though. Lana was not right for Clark. She never felt good enough for him and always tried to handle things her own way to prove she was his equal. The wedding scene is just 1 example. If she had told Clark or even Chloe, then everything would have been different. But Lana never understood that breaking Clark's heart was just as bad as hurting his body. Even after she learns Clark's secret, she chooses to disappear at the end of this season, to protect him, breaking his heart cause she let's him think she's dead. Then again next season she chooses to let the threats against Clark's life keep her from contacting him until the middle of season 8 simply so that she can gain enough power to become his equal. Everything she did made sense to her and that's why she could never be the woman Lois was. My explanation for Lois is quite simple. She made bad choices at times but always understood that breaking Clark's heart was the same as killing him. She protected his body as well as his mind. The moment she realized how much her actions hurt him, she fixed it. She cared for him on a level Lana never could

Clark really does need Lois because everytime Lana leaves leaves him,he acts like a wuss making it seem like the world is coming to an end.but thanks to Lois & her tough love,he starts acting like a man again

The problem with smallville is that the relationship between clark and lana was so deep and so well done that by the time Lois, the love of Superman's life, shows up, we as viewers were just hoping Lana would be with Clark forever but we knew that was impossible. Clark and Lana went through so much together that nothing Clark and Lois went through could compare.
No, really. I'm not sure why people ever rooted for Lana. Right away in S1E1 she's the girl that flirts with another guy while having a bf. Even goes on a date with the other guy. That's her role in the story from day one, disloyal superhero girlfriend trope. The only reason I could tolerate her was because I knew she wasn't endgame. But indeed, back in the day I stopped watching Smallville because they wouldn't let Lana make an exit, it got ridiculous. The relationship was also not written to end well. Lana and Clark didn't have matching needs, but indeed their needs ran counter to one another. That, too, was clear pretty quickly. Then there was all that lying and distrust, so tiresome... Also: Lana so mad when people lie to her, has no problem lying herself... That woman needs her head checked. Lana constantly breaking his balls, him constantly staying a child because of her... For the first three seasons that was ok, but then he turned 18, 19, 20, and still behaved like a 15yo... So sad. Don't know about you, but I watched the show to see him grow from boy to superman, not from boy to wimp. Lois and Clark was much better written from the get go. We could see Lois is a much superior woman, empathic, caring, practical, fiercely loyal. She had the same morals and goals as him, she accepted as natural that he had needs and was his own man, didn't try to control him, didn't make it all about her, did things for him just to make him smile. It was such a breath of fresh air when in S8 he becomes more manly with every episode, finally catching up to his age, and then such a frustration as he falls back into boyhood when Lana returns. Lana and Clark's relationship is also so lame, there's no real chemistry there, they aren't real with one another, always putting on a façade, their dialogue is dull and increasingly tepid, I mean, take your pick. They should have shuffled Lana off to France for good at the end of S3, they didn't have ideas for her any more, anyway. Her arcs became increasingly silly and she finally sank to the level of villain. And it damaged Clark's character that he didn't realise and didn't make the decision to step away, instead of dropping in a kryptonite bomb.
Whoever is reading this comment, God bless you and have a blessed day!!!

You keep telling yourself that.
