Cleanest Aerocatch Hood Pin Install

  • So this was the most unintentional way that I had planned to install these. The game plan was to just cut out 2 big holes for the Aerocatch hood pint latch to go through. BUT! Found an ingenious way to minimize the amount of holes that you have to drill and the amount of hood that you lose. I wanted to get these installed to just check one more thing off of the list while we wait for the motor to come back. Because we have to remake our core support we are losing our hood latch and what a perfect replacement these AeroCatch Hood Pins will be!

    Dont feel bad about your content, brother. There's literally hundreds if not thousands of channels on here that showcase dropping $30-50k in parts and time-lapse to completion. Your approach is much more detailed, and tbh more real. We can relate to you. You address the stuff that very few people do, and you bring us along for the adventure. Your channel is remarkably underrated. Keep up the good work, stay safe and most of all have fun.

    Thank you for sharing this experience! Seeing that my plastic, hood-release latch broke on my Lancer, I figured that I could just go ahead and toss-out everything pertaining to said issue for some weight savings; and just have pins alike you're showcasing here.
    Of course, replacing the simple piece for the hood-release inside of the car would be cheaper and easier, buttttt such gave me a reason to do exactly what I always intended to do beforehand. Besides, I think the cable needs replacing as well, so since I have to take it out anyway . . . OUT of the engine bay is where it shall stay! 🤷🏼😂🤘 Seeing you guys do this just gave me more of a motive to do this (and my old, oem hood will serve as practice since it needs to be replaced later-on via CF anyway 😂), so thanks once again. 👊💪

    So way back in the day on my 1999 2.5 RS I put the old school style hood pins in and I weight reduced my hood. I then forgot to put in the hood pin pins and it flew up on me. Hey Tanner, just eyeballing this job for my car now and i sorta had an observation and a question. Could you have just allowed for the fact that the hood pin goes thru the hood at an angle when fully closed and then maybe just used a small holesaw to cut through the underside for the hood pin hole and then just slid the mounting plate through into the bonnet and screwed it together like you did in your vid? I'm trying to do a smaller cut than you did to the underside of your hood, even tho yours looks way cleaner than most other hack jobs ive seen while searching for an install vid! Password JDM used to make a mounting plate so you didn't have to cut a hole at all but sadly they don't make it anymore.

    Seems this went better than your last experience cutting up a hood 😅
    Edit: also for a little more information about your viewers: I drive an 03 Bugeye WRX sedan that I do all my own wrenching on. so I pretty much watch your channel for entertainment purposes as well as learning little tips and tricks that I may not have known before. However im also building my car for rally cross/rally stages so its hard for me to find channels where people do builds like that mostly everything is just built for roll racing on the highways and tarmac circuits

    Side note, they are not actual carbon fiber. Most are labeled “carbon fiber look” don’t be fooled if they are labeled different. Doesn’t make them any less of a good product. You want the wet look give them a spray of clear coat.

  • @jacobbarney124

    To get the carbon fibers to match better you could put a clear coat on the hood pins er latch things. Lol the new things you installed today.🤣

      Haha thats what a few others suggested doing as well 🔥😁

    bending the pins is not a clean install sorry about that bud. that opposite of clean,. its now improperly bent.

    I'm like 99% sure the difference between your vents and the latches is not wet/vs dry but real carbon fiber (vents) vs hydrodipped "carbon fiber look" (latches).

    • @matthewmolina642
      @matthewmolina642 3 роки тому

      At 1min 28sec you can see how part of the bottom right of the latch has some hydrodip on it but not the rest of the bottom. Common on hydrodipped parts

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  3 роки тому

      Spot on, the hydro dip on the latches is already peeling off 😖

    The AeroCatch are a fake carbon fiber finish and are not Carbon fiber. You can clear coat them with automotive clear coat that uses an activator.

    Well... i attempted to make some recordings last night... failed... all i could hear in the vid is road noise :( even when i was at a red light getting off the highway. I cant even hear the idiot that got off after me revving his engine to redline.
    Ive always wondered why people with junk cars rev their bust ass whoopdie when they see a "performance" car.
    Worst scenario was when i was in the r35 and had been stopped at a red light. Some econo van from like the 80s had pulled up next to me and just started revving the hell out of it... just... wow...
    Fail...

    aerocatch tells you these are NOT a replacement for the oem latch. without a oem hood latch you are playing a dangerous game at highway speeds.

    The angle doesn't change you changed the angle while drilling at an angle on the hood 😂😂
    You people on you tube should stop messing with cars when you call the engine and the engine bay a "thingy"
