Back to Cateel and memories of 2020; last time I saw my dad, I'd just left behind a disastrous harvest and the fishpond has been abandoned since.
How will he react?
From Bukidnon, my British-Filipino family are taking a trip to Davao Oriental - we meet Mama Rose and the Australians! Then I bring some "practical" pasalubong for Kulas!
The fishpond is overgrown, but myself, my dad and our Australian friends Shannon and Emma enjoyed looking around and eating the excellent food prepared by my caretaker!
Then a short trip to Baganga so Lily can swim somewhere a bit more sheltered, followed by a detour into Agusan and the calamansi farm. The future is brighter!

Yes I add my congratulations! But I disagree very slightly; I admire how he has used the experience, as a launching pad, how he remembers the good like the staff & families who worked with him & the grueling labor & the natural beauty…. He remembers his experiences /losses / even tragedies? (I wasn’t a viewer then , trying to slowly back watch), he remembers with compassion. Not self pity. That is a difficult task for many (including me), he is a good teacher.
Appreciate you being resilient not giving up with all the hardships and roller coaster emotions that comes with living in our country.

Watching your vlog for quite sometime Ansel and all I can say is u made it your being resilient all through out those failures are struggle and look at you now your dad must be so proud of you right now of what you have invested and how you made this far from UK to Philippines. I see all your struggle from the past but all i can say right now you have adopted the filipino resiliency ur getting more stronger as the time goes by you have learned so much from the previous experience and yet you keep going forward and am happy coz you have included your family already to your vlog your wife and daughter. My father doesn’t follow the vlog, but overheard me watching this one & commented about Anselm’s father’s voice: “he sounds very educated…”. That is a huge compliment from my father, almost best thing he would say about someone lol.

Yes, I agree. I’m still newish to following, so maybe that accounts for it. Lots of comments (I enjoy reading comment sections for vlogs I view), note how humorous Anselm is, & he definitely is & I often LOL. But I notice when I watch his vlogs I have to concentrate more, if that makes any sense lol. My usual routine is to listen to my few fave vloggers, while busy/doing housework or cooking or driving etc, then watch 2nd time with full attention. But with A, even twice I don’t catch everything often it seems to me….That’s good though, a vlog of substance. (Not that others are not substantive!). Just different like prime rib vs. a great salad, all “entrees” of the Phil content creators are great…well, I enjoy the ones I watch, naturally.

Roman’s 8:28. Sorry, not sorry😆. I know people’s eyes will roll at Scripture & Faith. But I wanna put a word in for St Paul & his ”all things work together for good…”. Everyone quotes Nietzshke, but is that philosophy solid? Not in my experience, there are many that aren’t killed, may survive; but are NOT AT ALL strengthened. I speak from personal experience. IMO To be strengthened, is yes a personal character attribute of a person, but it is also all blessing. // off my soap box now. Wait, one more, it is so tuff esp w Filipinos imo, I like many older generation with at least some Pinoy blood, lament less strict raising of children. I melt when kids are taught Mano po & respect. But I don’t personally believe in insisting kids embrace if they arent feeling it.. Lily’s face said it all!

I would say you are super resilient despite many loses in your venture you still continue; I pray that the day would come when bountiful harvest comes for years in your way! anyway what could be the fingerlings you are using and is your feeds suits the crude protein needed for growing tilapia in brackish water? I do have Tilapia farm in fresh and brackish water, and definitely growing fish in brackish water with less optimal genetics of tilapia and normal crude protein could spell doom in operations.
Last time I tried was 2020... Red tilapia had better survival but I always got the hybrid blue tilapia. Tateh feeds. Good sizing, mortality was normal in the nursery but too high in the grow out ponds.

I used to edit 100 + page Seafood Watch reports (here in the U.S.), and I've had relatives in the P.I. who farmed fish, but this is the first time I've actually seen the reality of what it's like to farm fish in a place like the Philippines. Wow, lots of hard work! Thank you for posting this! Sorry it turned out to not be a great harvest -- good luck in the future!
I could tell you many stories! That was from 2020! Haven't farmed it since... Too many challenges!
Even for native Filipinos. I know 2 very intelligent, successful men who tried, one is a relative of mine. The relative who is also a well connected person, not isolated in any way; threw in the towel, I’m not sure what happened with the friend of a friend….but it was mostly losses when I was in the loop.
