I have owned a 2007 3.2CDI for 12 years and it is the best looking car I have ever driven. It goes like stink and gives me 48mpg if I drive like a vicar! The Gen2 cars look awkward and the performance differential is marginal and you really should not be driving a car like this at its top performance on public roads. It is an indictment of the Gen 2 cars that the Gen 3 cars seem to have been designed on the Gen 1 - back to the future! If I ever sell my car that is the one I will go for, but not yet - not yet!!
Just bought mine with 72000miles in blue with AMG package, with full options as 23 Years Old I am shocked how good the design looks of it, plan to keep it as long as gen3 is not cheap enough to buy
@@jonboy9912 wow that‘s good to hear. Back then I had a cls 350 cgi 2007 and it developed rust on the wheel arches after 2 years of ownership. But all in all it was a great car. My father owned a 2007 377bhp 500 model for a while. it was great in a straight line but not so hot in the corners due to it's mass and air suspension. Unfortunately it wasn't a reliable car, it left us stranded 60 miles from home on one occasion and it also had issues with the air suspension, window regulators and it also had rust on the body and on brake pipes. it was 5 years old at the time...

@@noobrefinisher5443 from what I’ve seen is basic maintenance on time like any other car, but the Achilles heel of this car is the Active Body Control Suspension which goes out over time which could get in the thousands of dollars if needing to replace all 4 air struts (Yikes!) my goal is to swap to coil overs (I will have a warning on the dash saying the suspension isn’t working etc), better ride on “real suspension” plus I can take corners a lot faster depending on my driving but all in all you can’t go wrong with a CLS 500 or any other C Class cars with the 5.0 motor
Just a word to those that are saying the C219 phase 1 is better than the phase 2. I dont believe you know your Mercs. Have you even driven and compared them? They are miles apart. I had a phase 1 2006 and traded it for a 2010 and the difference in power, handling and looks were amazing. I now have a 2014 C218 CLS 550 which is another level again but for looks I would still pick my old 2010 phase 2👍🏻
Looks are subjective; I looked at the gen 2 & didn't like the interior & exterior, so plumped for a low mileage gen 1. But yeah I agree the driving dynamics will be better with a gen 2.
