While there have been numerous talks on education, this mother has said it better than any educator out there. I love her focus on the questions rather than the answers. I love how she focuses on helping children develop the skills to answer their own questions and learn on their own rather than always waiting for someone else to give them the answer. And I love her idea about the "idea book" as I have had that exact same thought. I tend to zone out during lectures or as other people speak because I get lost in a tangential thought. I want my future classroom students to zone out when appropriate and then write down those sudden moments of inspiration. Children have lots of potential and just like Jack Andraka and Malala Yousafzai, behind these amazing children, there were amazing parents who provided opportunities but never interfered with the learning of their children.

This woman rocks! So much knowledge and wisdom. I know she intended to help parents but she just help me as a man with no children.

"Children are even as a branch that is fresh and green; they will grow up in whatever way ye train them. Take the utmost care to give them high ideals and goals, so that once they come of age, they will cast their beams like brilliant candles on the world," ~ Selections from the Writings of Abdu’l-Baha

The message she is sharing is to help your kids find what they enjoy then give them the tools of encouragement to do it by getting out of the child's way and letting them figure it out. Great talk and a great motto that I aspire to live by as a fellow Mom as well.

The point which she repeated a number of times:
Praise the attempt, process, perseverance, and the hunt. Support the failures, and most important of all: Love your kid.

lol its weird seeing Mrs. Andraka up on stage, I was good friends with jack andrak and Luke andraka in middle and high school I remember some crazy times at our middle school, Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School (CSP) thats when jack finally let go of his hidden fear of coming out of the closet and once he did he soared academically since his social worries were behind him. Ive always been jealous of jack and Lukes intelligence. in 7th grade I got 4th place in our science fair losing only to jack luke and another student. all good memories now and im glad hes doing well

For an Indian audience possibly the message has to be the other way round - interfere less and give child some opportunity to be her own self.

Super cool.. But if their parents are lazy, I think their sister or brother could help them tho

I disagree that schools are about job training. I think they are so much more about literacy, numeracy, and learning to work with others...
