But 1) it was a destination wedding, so while it was adorable that he offered, no way was that going to cover being out all that deposit money 2) even she said they were fighting with MiL ever since they found out about the venues min age. 3)
First thing I though when I heard the MIL was planning the wedding was that she intentionally booked an adult only venue. OP's kid has every right to be mad and ignore them and OP was right to call out his brother and MIL. W dad for sticking up for his son. Son is reacting quite mature for his age, not throwing a tantrum but asking questions trying to understand why they disappointed and lied to him.
who the heck tells a 13 year old they're being selfish for being sad that they can't go to a wedding. the kid has the right to be angry considering he was looking forward to attend the wedding.
I read few of OP's comments on reddit, it seems Leo's mom abandoned them both when he was 4 yo. And he always had issues with being left out. Imagine how he felt when his favorite person cut him out of his most important day. I doubt he'll ever forgive him.
I bet this will be one of Jack's biggest regrets in life, and I'm pretty sure that if Leo ever decides to forgive him, they're never gonna be as close as before
Are normal kids and teens just start sucking in booze in full view of relatives as soon as they are in proximity of some? I don't get these childfree weddings, especially in stories where the 'kid' is a month or less from turning 18, or legal drinking age. Babies? Understandable. Little kids? Depends on how well behaved and tolerant of being bored they are, but fine. But why a teen, especially if they wanted themselves to see friends, relatives or cheer on their favorite uncle/aunt getting married?
It's one thing to want a childfree wedding and be upfront about it from the beginning. Some people just want to not have to worry about kids and such in general, and it can serve as a nice night off for parents. It's the fact that it was announced AFTER the son was already invited and that the wife knew the whole time and kept her mouth shut.
I don't understand op mom favor his brother jack instead of defending her grandson Leo. Obviously golden child deserves respect. She's so pathetic🙄 i mean really woman that's your grandson. He wanted to attend the wedding if involved alcohol then don't serve alcohol. Dislikes the excuse they use the word family to justify their narcissism bs
You can serve alcohol at a wedding with children, you would probably need people on watch incase the children do try to get alcohol instead of the alcohol free drinks.

Naw, no amount of trauma excuses referring to a child as a "dead woman's affair baby" in front of the child, and as far she knows that's how the kids going to find out her only parent isn't her parent. You don't get to traumatize a child because you're 'triggered'. That was gross af

Yeah, by the time they found out, deposits were paid, invitations were sent and people had booked flights and rooms. They made the wrong person the villain here. MiL is the bad guy, not the Uncle.
Im sorry if I'm the odd one out here but the kid is over reacting they said they where sorry set up a time to tell him in person had a whole trip idea planned out and everything as a make up gift and everything the kid is being selfish dad sounds like he does have a grudge against his brother
Wedding venues are hard to move around especially destination weddings why would u cater to one kid making not just the bridal party but also guests loost hundreds of dollars because of u and then him saying but dad has money like op is supposed to dish out thousands sounds selfish to me
this story doesnt make sense to me. If Leo loved his uncle so much and he was told what happened i see no reason why it would be this extreme. the entire situation was completely out of the uncles hands clearly and the only person i can properly blame is his wife who i can sort of even sympathise with considering all the stress she was going through for her wedding and with her mum, not that it excuses her actions though. Basically if Leo was told what happened and its true i see no reason why he would treat someone he called dad that way and for that amount of time. The uncle even offered him a trip to GREECE to make up for it like i dont get it cuz this level of hate is unnatural unless the uncle did something that they arent telling us.
1st story: Right off the bat, uncle isn't really to blame here, MiL planned everything. Uncle doesn't even believe in marriage, so he had no horse in this race. The money was already plugged with non-refundable deposits. And with destination weddings, that's a LOT. How did dad explain the situation to his preteen son for him to villainify so bad? Honest mistake or not, kid and Dad should be mad at MiL, not Uncle. Uncle even extended olive branch after olive branch and even a vacation to fricken Greece! Dad is the straight up AH for how he explained the situation to the kid. The kid is rightfully angry but dad is pointing him in the wrong damn direction. There's something else going on here for how hard this Dad is to throw blame at his brother. Just sit down and say "Hey kiddo, we found out the venue that your Uncle Jack's MiL rented out is kid free, so we can't go. It costs a lot of money and changing it now means they'd be out all that. They had to save up A LOT for it, it would take me several SEVERAL months to even have that much. BUT! Here's the thing! Uncle Jack and your aunt want to take you on a trip to Greece when they get back! I'll get you a camera just like one Jack's and you both can take some awesome snapshots of your vacation!" There you go. Mary needs to keep away from MiL and MiL needs to be cut off.
Op was going to explain it to his son but they insisted on talking to him themselves. Which is when things hit the fan. The brother's wife said the wrong thing and uncle didn't stop or correct her. That’s when his son decided uncle and wife didn't value him like he valued them so he wouldn't deal with them anymore. That boy knows his mind . Only thing op would have done if he forced his son to talk to his brother is damage his own relationship.
Everyone kinda sucks here. The kid is being waaayy too childish about this. It's one event, and it wasn't about him. The single dad needs to shut the insults from his kid down. And the wife shouldn't have snapped at the kid for being upset and trying to offer alternatives.
@@daredevilsdaughter3889 You're forgetting personality types. I know many adults that cut people off for big mistakes. The boy is one in the making. When SIL called him selfish and uncle didn’t stand up for him all bets were off.
