It is definitely one of the most "spectacular" shows I've ever seen. (And I've literally seen hundreds of Broadway shows.) Watching it reminded me of being a little girl and seeing one of the night show's at Disney World. Not just the fireworks, but Tinker Bell flying down from Cinderella's Castle, or the projections onto Spaceship Earth, or pretty much everything they do during "Fantasmic." (I actually haven't been to Disney in over a decade and I can't even imagine what kind of shows they're putting on now. I'm sure they're amazing.)
I watched "Gatsby" with my jaw on the floor. Not only is it literally based on my favorite book, but then to add mega-talents like Jeremy and Eva...That would have been enough to sell me on the idea. But to add the visual effects, and the costumes, and the choreography?! I was in awe. I've already purchased tix to go back, which will be my third time seeing the show (if you include the Papermill production), and I predict there will be many more. This show is my new Achille's heel. I know it's not going to take much for me to find a Saturday where I have no plans and think, "I should see 'Gatsby' again." LOL
Run, don't walk, to see this one. It's SO worth it!
One word of warning though...Don't expect a fairytale. When we were walking out, I heard some young women complaining. One of them said, "What was the point? That rich people suck?" "The Great Gatsby" is an American classic. There are dark themes and serious topics, and if you want to oversimplify things, then yes...One of the main points is that rich people suck. LOL I wrote my AP English exam essay about the book (I received a perfect score and received 6 credits before even beginning college), and I wrote that you could describe the theme in one word..."Carelessness." Carelessness, selfishness, materialism...Take your pick. I know I mentioned Disney earlier, but if you want a happy ending, go see "Aladdin" instead.
