    Just a slight correction, Zahn wasn't able to do his story with the Thrawn clone because Mara Jade was essential to his plans... and they killed her off with out letting him know.
    Zahn stated he wasn't able to rework to story after Mara's death to be just Luke and Ben, nor was he able to set it before her death because Ben was just too young at that point.
    So essentially due to a lack of communication and a bad work ethic by killing off another authors characters, we lost a major plotline that had been in the works for decades. Due to Troy Denning and Karen Traviss not giving one thought to anything but their own plotlines. Even though Aaron Allston who was working with them objected to it and brought up that it would affect Timothy Zahn's storyline, and he's on record saying so too before his death.

      The less said about Denning and Traviss's works, the better. What with Denning setting the reset button on the Jedi Order's structure post-NJO from Dark Nest going forward, and Traviss's works being tailored around the Mandalorians being the uber-cool heroes and the Jedi as fascistic wimps (not even making that up, she legit sees the Jedi Order as gestapo. I actually love that idea of Ben Skywalker and Clone Thrawn, especially because of some of the storylines brought up towards the end of Legends life

    • @jonathanryan9946
      @jonathanryan9946 Рік тому +19

      Just a slight correction to Corey's comments. The story was to be about Luke and Mara training Ben, and them finding the Thrawn clone on that journey. Not Ben teaming up with the Thrawn clone. All three Skywalker's possibly teaming up or fighting against his misguided ways from there.
      It's the whole reason the plotline was dropped. Zahn had the whole plotline requiring Mara Jade to still be alive. Zahn wasn't able to rework his story post her death, that he wasn't informed about, and Ben was too young to be trained by Mara before she died.
      So it was essential to Zahn's plot that Luke and Mara were to be the ones teaching Ben. Plus it's highly suspected that Mara was to finally get her backstory and purpose of why Thrawn wanted to recruit her that was alluded to in the Hand of Thrawn duology and her backstory of her childhood past. Zahn has even stated as much.
      So the pivotal character here wasn't Ben Skywalker, as he was a blank slate Jedi trainee, so much as Luke and Mara being his established Masters finishing their character arcs of passing on everything that they had learned.

      @@michaelandreipalon359 I honestly don't care about the genders of the Exile or Jaden, but I do like that Revan has a definitive appearance, personality, and history. IMO, he's simply too big and influential of a character to tiptoe around the details of, and I think that his romantic relationship with Bastila Shan (including marrying and having children with her) and the idea that love between Jedi *isn't* inherently wrong or a force for evil, but can actually be a force for redemption, draws strong parallels with the teachings and positions of other forward-thinking Jedi like Qui-Gon and Luke. They both accomplished great things via the power of love. Qui-Gon maintained his identity after death (something that normally only Sith could do through greedy attachment to artifacts or locations that were important to them), and Luke redeemed his father by showing him unconditional love when everyone else had written him off as a lost cause. That said, I'm not happy with *_all_* the details of Revan's story (Shadow of Revan), but the themes surrounding him are generally well done, and wouldn't work as well (or at all) without giving the character a definitive background.
      In any case, I think the fleshing out of his character was only a matter of time. Even if BioWare's writers hadn't have done it, it's very likely that someone else would have. Most fans already know that George Lucas nearly did it himself while laying out the Mortis arc for The Clone Wars. At the very least his appearance in that series would have been cemented as male, and who knows what other details would have been given away through dialogue in those episodes.

    • @michaelandreipalon359
      @michaelandreipalon359 Рік тому +9

      @@DovahFett ...I still would prefer ambiguity. Making Revan a Light Sided male that was easily turned into a living plaything by some generic fool named Vitiate/Valkorion/kriff whatever-his-name is, complete with getting an evil split personality clone, just robs a lot of value to KotOR I and II playthroughs for the lot of us.

    This isn't so much a dropped plotline as it was wasted potential, but I always felt that the Ssi-Ruuk were given a raw deal story-wise. When they were first introduced in The Truce at Bakura the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium was played up as a potentially galaxy-ending threat, yet they're sent packing with their tails between their legs after a relatively small scale battle over the titular planet Bakura, followed by having their empire beaten to a pulp by a Chiss retaliatory force after taking a few of their planets. From then on out there's only the occasional reference to ongoing skirmishes with the New Republic and Chiss, and when the Ssi-Ruuvi do finally regain enough of their strength to become a genuine threat again they try and fail at Bakura a second time due to being compromised from within by the Yuuzhan Vong and a revolt by their P'w'ek slaves.
    It's a real shame, because having Space Dinos as a recurring, powerful villain faction would have been rad.

    • @DovahFett
      @DovahFett Рік тому +7

      Their role has sort of been given to the mysterious Grysk in the modern Thrawn books. Like the Ssi-Ruuk, they have been teased as potentially being a galactic-wide threat, and are presented as the main adversaries of the Chiss Ascendancy. On top of that, they are described as having a somewhat reptilian appearance.

      This is one of the biggest dropped plots, and it would have drastically reshaped the history of the galaxy. For those who don't know, in Kotor 2 it's pretty much outright stated that the known Sith Empire, which was found by Dark Jedi on Korriban and conquered a small quadrant of space before being defeated in the TotJ comics (and going on to spawn the entire following line of Sith in the galaxy), was in fact nothing but a tiny, castoff, forgotten outpost of the True Sith Empire which resided in the Unknown Regions, which Revan himself maybe came from and was desperate to do anything to defeat.
      This concept actually ties in neatly with the threat in the Unknown Regions the Chiss were always so wary of, and even explains their presence in TOR since they get allied with Vitiate's Empire despite the two groups being nowhere near one another,

TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, Storm Trooper armor, all that shit was meant to be the next generation of vehicles and equipment the Republic used during the Clone Wars, like V Wings and Venators. Palpatine didn't just randomly start making the Empire look suspiciously close to the Sith Empire, that's dumb as hell. That'd be like if modern US marines started wearing grey uniforms with red arm bands and no one is expected to connect the dots there.

      I always thought that KOTOR 2's version sounded infinitely more interesting than anything else they've done with the idea of an "ancient Sith Empire." They made it sound less like an actual government that can conquer the Republic but they're led by evil Jedi, and more like a Lovecraftian, eldtrich entity that would consume the entire galaxy if given the chance. They sounded a lot more like a group of Darth Nihilus' running around consuming entire planets, with the implication that Nihilus himself wasn't nearly as powerful as these actual Sith Lords. That sounds way more interesting than the lame shit we got in SWTOR.

Really, the only way to wrap up TFU2's story withlut a sequel is if Vader gets free and teams up with Boba Fett to kill everyone, and I can't imagine how lame that'd be for the main characters. TFU2 should've been about General Kota leading the Rebellion and how he dies before A New Hope, since obviously he and Galen can't be around by then. But Filoni's The Clone Wars are so canon breaking in numerous ways that the IP died in 2007/2008 when movie and TV series came out. 2003 Cone Wars is great and works. The Clone Wars is the precursor to Disney Wars. I like the stories and do like Rebels, but I now reject those series as not true Star Wars. Anakin does not have a padawan, Asohka should be dead long before A New Hope, Maul stays dead, no f-ing helicopter lightsabers, no need for Inquisitors, no pacifist Mandalore or darksaber... @@jasonkiefer1894The Clone Wars (2008) is the single best thing to happen to Star Wars since the original trilogy. It single handedly redeemed the Prequels in the eyes of millions of fans and ushered in a golden age of Star Wars content. The 2003 series is almost completely inconsequential by comparison. It adds almost nothing to the characters it portrays, completely destroys any semblance of power scaling in the franchise (Mace Windu karate chopping a thousand B2s by himself), and is the epitome of style over substance. It's a fun watch for sure, and is artistically impressive, but it doesn't work on any level in terms of character or plot development. Not to mention that its portrayal of Grievous *completely* contradicts George Lucas' own depiction in Episode III. A piece of media that so badly conflicts a main series film does *_not_* work in the larger canon, neither now nor then.
      I was nine when The Clone Wars (2008) first began airing, and literally grew up with it. That show single handedly nurtured my love for the franchise and that era in particular. If it were to be removed or erased, the loss to the franchise's lore would be catastrophic. It's worth keeping for no other reason than its characterization of the Clones. It's humanization and characterization of them was _sorely_ needed, and previously was only found in periphery media like the Republic Commando series of novels. In most everything else they were being depicted as being little more than droid-like Stormtroopers by another name. The 2003 series is guilty of this as well.
      The Clone Wars *_is_* Star Wars, and was George Lucas' last gift to the fans before he finally got tired of being constantly pissed on by its most entitled and insatiable members. It was not the beginning of Disney canon, but the end of George Lucas' canon. I'd go as far to say that if you don't like The Clone Wars, you don't like Star Wars. I know that's a no true Scotsman argument, but I think it's true in this case. The series is as integral to the franchise as any of the films (and more so than several of them). It has become the bedrock of the franchise, and the stories and characterizations it provides contains much of the best writing the franchise has ever produced. To dismiss it is totally alien to me and the millions of fans it created (and continues to attract). It is not to blame for any of the subpar stories that might trace their roots to it. Doing so would be like blaming Peter Jackson's LoTR trilogy for the failures of Amazon's Rings of Power. The good these works did far outweigh any potential harm caused down the road by the pieces of media that they directly or indirectly inspired through their success. They are great works of art and should be respected as such.
      In any case, the amount of absolutely nonsensical, contradictory tripe that came out of EU makes your argument ridiculous, and I say that as someone who loves many of its stories and characters. But to act like everything was rosy before The Clone Wars is total nonsense, and if you disagree you've either forgotten many of its worse products (The Courtship of Princess Leia, The Dark Empire, and the Yuuzhan Vong say hello) or you never read them in the first place.

All of them saw different visions of her in the future, involving her unifying the Galaxy as Queen of the Jedi, either side by side with a Sith or by herself, the vision Jacen had was even a reason for his turn to the Dark Side, to alter the future and change the vision.
    So her life and future was treated like it would be pretty important, but then nothing happened. Her story just ends as a Youngling learning the force. We never see the conclusion and it seems like she just becomes completely irrelevant to later stories.

      The problem is that its publication started in the 18-month period between the Disney acquisition of the franchise, and the official discontinuation and decanonization of the EU. Additionally, regarding the potential third Force Unleashed game, Sam Witwer has given some details about it without going against any agreements made should Disney Lucasfilm want to pursue it at a later date or repurpose it. The shorthand is that at the end of the story, Starkiller would be betrayed by Vader yet again, and while confident that he could finally defeat and destroy Vader once and for all, Vader would reveal to Starkiller how powerful he truly was, that he had always been holding back how proficient he was with the Dark Side of the Force, to which Starkiller's final words would have been along the lines of "How... How are you this powerful?!" to which Vader would reply along the lines of echoing his sentiments from the first game; "I told you. I lied, from the very beginning, about everything." and would then succinctly kill Starkiller. I paraphrase the exact words, but it's more or less the sentiments that Sam described they were going to present.

Point being, the game itself is infinitely larger than the disappointing direction they took Revan, and they thankfully let you ignore most of it to plant your own headcanons in there.
      Also, I do think they made the right call with how they showed the Sith. Having the Sith be slightly more uniform Sith society definitely worked in its favour more than just bloodborne-esque Sith abominations (Which would have definitely been really cool, but not for the type of game that TOR was.). The sheer scale of the worldbuilding at play during the 4 Imperial class stories was, in my opinion, a worthy trade-off to the stuff we lost from a potential KOTOR 3.
