Vanessa, You have enough to keep busy with, when you raise any animal. Which types, is your decision. Chickens are always good because they are dual purpose, eggs and meat. We only have 4 now, because of room. Your goats are beautiful! They are my favorite. Good luck!
nice and green, a good place for critters, the hound dog got so big , hey i've got skunks that visit, you want some? how many? you don't want the raccoons, them buggers get into every thing
Your goats look very healthy. They have beautiful, shiny coats.
Thanks for letting us follow the journey of your farm.
Vanessa, so good to hear from you. Aika is a good herding dog. She thinks she is a Border Collie. I trust your family is well. Chickens are the best choice, low maintenance and the eggs are plentiful. Looking forward to seeing the new renovation!
wishing you a day filled with love and peace Vanessa.
I love that dog. I had a black German shepherd. Smartest dog ever had.
It is so good to see you again.
Hi! ..Vanessa.. You do not need any special animals , for people to whatch Your videos, You always have great content. Your knowledge about the forest , herbs , arms and bushcraft are enough to keep peoples attention.
---from a long time subscriber , patrion and viewer... : )
Yes, I did enjoy your relaxed video.
And still appreciate your good character showing through: " if you want".
Thanks for your effort and sharing to make these videos, Van.
Thank you!
all wonderful time spent with you. thank you.🦊
Vanessa, I've had goats for much of my adult life. I've always used stock paneling to keep them safe. I learned that the more space you can provide, the happier they will be, so I made my enclosures fun with rocks for them to jump on. Good luck to you!
I want to build something like that :-.)
Solar electric fencing will keep your animals in and preditors out. Goats are escape artists!
YES! on the goats, easy to maintain good cheese and milk. NO on Peacocks mean and very loud sound like baby's crying! thank you stay safe ALL
Great video!. :) 👍
Thank You for all Your work. And all of Your videos..
May God bless you and your family 🙏
Hello Vanessa thank you for the nice video I hope you have a blessed weekend and a wonderful week 🦊🏆👍
sensible approach Vanessa 🤓 always good to see your projects 😉 Thanks 🍄
Hope you find an animal you like and works for you. I like your Mustang t-shirt. Stay well and be safe.
Guinea fowl are pretty cute, don't require a lot of effort, nor are they particularly noisy-- constant, but not all that loud.
They also love slugs, eat ticks and can help keep foxes away!
you are so pretty
I had a homestead for 11 years in Canada.
Electric fences are great. Cheap ,easy to move around and fence off areas with just plastic insulators and nails.
Pigs are good. Goats are trouble. Rabbits are ok for meat. Cattle require lots of land and need more than one.
Chicken and rabbit is probably the best
Tip to train animals to electric fences is to tie some plastic tape or bits of visible strips to the wires so they can see the boundary. Otherwise might charge through it without getting a shock. Best if they sniff the wires and get shocks
Oh wow, you must live at a beautiful space!
@@WildWomanBushcraft not anymore. I’m in England now.
Your doing a great job 👍 super skill
Hello, The Guinea hens are good because they are hearty and will roost in trees. They lay eggs that are the size of small chicken eggs and they are very good for eating insects. They are also good as watch birds. Like geese they make a lot of noise when people and other animals come into their yard.
Keep up the good work Vanessa you're my hero. God bless stay safe👍👍
God bless you too!
Wasn't the German word Mustang once a curse word? Germany required Ford to change new Mustangs, being set to Germany, to have no Mustang badges. They changed them to T-5. Loved the video.
Been worried about you, kid. Very happy to see you post a video. 😁
Nice update on your farm. I also like guineas. They are easy to care for. Taste good. Are not aggressive and eat a lot of bugs. The ones I have get along well with the chickens. I like goats but they are mischievous. I like the milk and the meat is good. Best of luck on choosing animals to add to your farm.
I read, a LONG time ago, about how effective guineas are at pest control: they not only eat insects voraciously, but they do a pretty good number on snakes, too. That much, I learned from an article in "Mother Earth news" maybe a generation ago, but in the years since, I've seen them kept in a back yard right here in Austin, so there's some evidence for the "easy care" comment, as well.
Enjoyed your video Vanessa 👍👍Have a great weekend. Hope to see you soon.
Thank you for this follow-up 👍🏻
Thanks for the new video vanessa! always nice to see you back have great Saturday..
Wish you too!
Great video, Mahalo for sharing.
Hi there Vanessa glad to see you thanks for sharing your video I agree with you, you have to know how to work with your animals and they also learn to know where there safety zone is you are creative and your doing a good job🤩🤩be safe🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
Aika says, ,,,"Play Ball with me!". 🐶.
Suggestion: build a 'Chicken Tractor ' or Two of them, and get more chickens. Research chicken tractor, Vanessa. Goats are great and they work well with chickens 💯
I know what you mean :-)
I ❤ Goats 😂
Good day Vanessa, how about beekeeping. Good for the environment, income from honey, and you can build the hives.😊
We just clipped the flight feathers periodically on our ducks so they couldn't fly...good pair of scissors does the trick and it's not paunful fir the ducks...like clipping finger nails...
Mi amor Vanessa!!!Besos❤
Hi Vanessa… I thought maybe you could do half chickens and half quail for eggs… I also like the mushrooms idea… I have seen people that have mushrooms… on a farm… you might want to take a look at it… it might be easier for you to manage. I hope that you will be able to harvest your vegetables… and that you are continuing to grow well and healthy and that your children are all doing well also. Please 🙏 take good care of yourself and my best to you and your family…
Bless your farm… I wish you good things… Peace…🌜🌞🌛
Love you Vanessa x
Turkeys are not to bad, it's those dang Gunieas and Peacocks that are so loud.
Danke!
Maaaate, us Aussies would get a couple of Roos, some emus and a croc.
You only need one emu egg to feed a family. The meat is like steak (red meat) and is fat free.
Roos are a little more gamey tasting and have the strongest leather.
Crocs eat one chicken a week and their meat tastes like chicken but is the texture of fish. The leather is quite valuable. Ps, nobody is going to break in. Hehe
More small Goats Vanessa..... You can get Milk from them and it makes lovely Cheese.... Mushrooms can be grown inside.... If you put them on a high shelf so the goats can`t reach them..... :-))) xxxxx
Get more ducks and to stop them flying away you clip the tips of one wing. Or keep them in a large enclosure with mesh on top
Has anyone told you that you're beautiful lately. You are!
Thank you!
Shiitake mushrooms dry/store well and have special health benefits too! They also taste good! 🤓('spores'.......you can get spores of these to grow)
Thanks for the lovely video, Vanessa! 🤗😀❤🦊
Wish you a nice weekend Dennis!
Hmm, no one has suggested a fish farm, so many videos on UA-cam, the simplest one I saw , a man bought a couple hundred tiny catfish and used a 50 gallon garbage, plastic can 28:11 the first food was a small tree branch with leaves on, he butchered the fish when they were a pound or something,, but yes, research, there are others where vegetables and fish grow together and only require something like 6 foot wide and 20 feet long, this is what I would do, in fact, right now I lust for some delicious fried fish, as always; love the life
❤. Hello from Utah Vanessa!
Another great and thoughtful video.
I would concentrate on chickens. Best bang for the buck.
Workplace exposures to creosote put railroad workers at higher risk of developing illnesses such as leukemia and cancer. Creosote is a wood preservative that is applied to railroad ties. - maybe it's important to know.
Hi Vanessa keep the good work up 🐐🐐🐐😊🌿🌱✨👍🏡 happy weekend and family hugs 👍
I know you'll take great care of whatever animals you choose. Have a great day Vanessa
Suggest the "African Dangerous Five" for a real challenge - Elephants, Rhinos, Leopards, Lions, African/Cape Buffalos
:-D
Nice small farm you have there Vanessa! I have a few thoughts of what you might grow there. A friend raises quail and sells the eggs for $5 a dozen. They are less messy than chickens and eat less. Also very tame and can be handled. Mushrooms might be fun and I have heard that growing lavender is very profitable. Have a great week, looking forward to the next video!
Good to see your posts and the knowledge you share as always Vanessa.
Also good to see you honouring Leo's memory 💖
Take care and be well 🙏🏼
Vanessa, I've always enjoyed the videos where you do a lot of talking and telling stories. I could just listen to you telling stories for hours at a time, like around a campfire. I'm curious about German law regarding fish ponds? If you have a farm, is it possible for you to have a pond that allows you to raise your own fish? It would seem to me that you could build a structure over most of the pond so it's not wasted space, and the structure would protect the fish from predator birds. Anyway, that's my one idea when it comes to farming.
I also love what you said about having some extra money. I have been working very hard to save as much as I can because I want to be self-sufficient and not owe anyone any money so I don't use credit cards or loans. I have only saved up $5000, but every dollar helps I think, and you're absolutely right. I sleep better knowing I have some money saved.
I look forward to seeing how the farm changes with your renovations! Keep up the great work and keep smiling!
Good video
I enjoyed your farm update. I agree about putting new animals in the barn. We did the same thing.
Over the years the animals we have had that we enjoyed raising were laying hens, meat chickens, pigs and rabbits (as pets). We also had geese, Guinea hens and a goat but they were only for a short period.
Take care.
I wish you luck on your new endeavors in your farm. I don't know if solar panels and batteries or a wind mill are something you have or are an option for you,;but considering the state of affairs with Russia and Ukraine, having alternate power for heating and cooling [refrigerator/freezer] and a wood stove with plenty of seasoned firewood is a very good idea, along with your garden and the animals you keep. May the good Lord keep you and your family safe, and thank you for your videos , keep up the good work.
Solar electric fence at least 12 volts DC plastic fence insulators….I had 25 goats, fence 5 strands 2 not electrified they a earth wires… you can chose goats for their fir or fat goats for meet..they can make money for you….they can also give plenty of milk ….so fir, meat or milk your choice each have a special breed for each type….4 to 5 animals per acre .
first time to watch your video from UA-cam. like it❤
6:51 Yes, I hate it when people give opinions on things they know nothing about!
mushrooms grow from Mycelium (My-see-lee-um)
you may want to try to raise Cornish Cross chickens for meat and eggs slightly smaller then regular chickens. research you might like them you may also research Broilers fast growing chicken raised for the meat. love all ya do. Michael Tennessee USA
Thanks for the farm update. I look forward to seeing your progress and the new animals.
Great to see you Vanessa, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen you. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for Us.
🐂🏹🏞️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think guinea fowl tastes much like chicken, but I have only eaten it in soups and stews. They make some noise, but are not difficult to keep. I wanted to try growing escargot (Schnecke), but never got around to it.
Hi, a Hermann tortoise why not 🐢🐢🐢🐢
I hope you get more chickens!😁 Excellent video!
Hey Vanessa👋, thanks for sharing your thoughts and updates on the farm. Have a great weekend. 👍
A homestead is constantly evolving, you will have different experiences with different animals, some animals you will love as pets, NEVER name anything you plan to eat. Rabbits, quail, chickens are good for meat sustainably. Remember, Larger animals require more feed, it gets expensive…I know 😩. On my place, my best investment was a smaller tractor with bucket loader and rototiller for garden. I wish I could get a backhoe attachment but it is so expensive. My life experience has taught me that the number one thing to focus on is my relationship with my God, this brings and gives peace within and effects all of my relationships. It allows me to concentrate on my goals for self sufficiency and survivability, which are food, water, shelter, clothing, medicine and sadly for the world in which we live, self defense. Blessings to you and yours Venessa, our problems are learning experiences, they strengthen you. You are strong and you will continue on. Yesterday’s problems are gone, put them behind you, continue to focus on your goals for your future. Much ❤, which is desiring and giving the best for someone else without expecting anything in return. Keep going girl !
Thank you so much for your loveley comment!
@@WildWomanBushcraft we all need encouragement, we seek independence and freedom to live peacefully while the world seeks to confine us. This is why we separate ourselves from the rat race, country life is for me.
I always enjoy your videos - As far as new animals, did you ever think of Cornish Hens - They are small and very tasty .
Vanessa, i like you video. How are you?
PEACOCKS !!
I wish that I had a fraction of the experince with farm animals necesary to give credible advice! But i do know a little bit about dogs, and it sounds a little like Aika is trying to "herd" the animals (which is kind of her job), and if so, that they're not used to it. I'm not sure how you train a German Shepherd to do that, but I do know that "Herding Dog" certifications exist, so there must be a way.
Vanessa, i understand your love for the rabbits, but chickens and rabbits are the best sources of meat for a small self sufficient farm. Bee hives might be a good thing if you like honey.
Bees a good idea was going to suggest myself . Real honey is expensive
Thats right, but nobody in my family like the taste. :-/
Make sure you raise the Guineas from chicks so they know where home is. If you buy adults they will line up side-by-side, march across your yard eating all the bugs and disappear over the horizon.
👍👍👍
I know you have the small house in the woods but did you think about the idea of introducing rabbits into the area for personal consumption and to control them so they dont spread too far its just a thought but i introduced rabbits into a woodland only 2 acres but 3 years in i found i was comtpeting with foxes for them but i still take 1 or two large rabbits a month there great for stews for the family...
Nice idea Stephen. But nobody in my familiy like the meat taste of them :/
سبحأن الله الذي سخرلنأهذا الحمدلله 🧿👁️🧿
Hi Vanessa! Nice plase you have there, are you growing fruit trees? I grow a lot of apple trees here in Norway and some of the old brands are werry good for storing in a cold basement some of them I picked in oktober and store them until may the nekst year. I also have plumme trees and cherrys for liqueur. I also have a few RIR Chikken (road Island Red) werry good meat and good eggs. I did have some rapids but they did not grow so good only on gras and Kitchen garden waste, so I dont have them any more.
🖐😊👍
👍
Hej Venesa Du är väldigt duktig, o klarar av alt själv,men var försiktig, Du måste vila Dej också iblandd.Lycka till Venessa, Önskar Dej allt gott.
Donkey good animal have be secound guard animal and donkey can be use for work.
Rabbits, breed rabbits. ;)
I have always considered sheep far superior to goats for a farm animal. First sheep are far more passive than goats and give less trouble. Goats just don't like boundaries. Second Goats will eat the entire plant in any field you put them in,, right down to (and including) the roots. They turn fertile ground into a desert in a confined range. Sheep by comparison eat only the green shoots and the grass or field greens of their fields can regrow. In terms of ecological balance sheep are superior. Third, Sheep (with vary few exceptions) give more wool and better wool per animal than goats do.I realize there are a handful of goats (the Cashmere, Angora, and Pashmina varieties spring to mind) which also produce excellent wool's, but these are exceptions and even there I would question the amounts on a per head basis. And finally if you have to cook and eat them, goat meat is tougher, gamier, and (in my own opinion) less flavorful in comparison to lamb. Thus from any practical angle goats are just too much trouble for too little return. Goats do have one useful utility though, and it's one our local forests here in the states utilize. There habit of eating everything vegetable that lies in their grazing range makes them great for clearing undergrowth. Many of the parks and national forests here use herds of goats from farmers that rent them out for this purpose to clear excess undergrowth to prevent fire hazards. They will stake a temporary boundary for them around an area, let them clear it down, then move them to the next area to be cleared. I would also concede that Goats are also useful if the land is too rocky or sloped for other pastoral animals (such as sheep or cows) Goats however are not the worst choice. That choice lies with pigs. Whatever you do, do NOT get pigs. Even the miniature versions turn bad tempered. I have friends that run a pig farm, they are noisy, smelly animals that can turn nasty in an instant. They are all big boys that work that farm, Very big, and very strong and every one of them says you can never turn your back on them.
Hmm, thinking about it Goats also have one other virtue, goats milk. I can't say I've ever heard of anyone milking sheep or making sheep cheese here, but I do know of at least one local farm that produces goat cheese. So being fair I have to give goats that advantage over sheep as well.
Depends need horse otherwise yeah wait and if want anther get one if not .
I know what you need to get Vanessa is a mule for riding
Vanessa why is it i sense you are angry what has happened to you love or is that reserved for another video you have not talked about your family for a long time now love will we see you with your old possitive self again S...
If you tether one goat the others will stay near it.
Schnautse! To the German commenters. :D
Strange your asking us as all you have to do is look at all your bills, vets, feeding, upkeep of buildings etc.etc. plus money in for food out. Your where I was years ago and I got rid of the lot and got my life back, and now rent my land to someone else, which more than pays for my food without any hassle at all. I don't even plant anymore, as that is loads of work and 3 years of bad crops to rip up and burn. Took a long time to get over all the work and money involved always going out, but no more animals for me, as said I got my real life back.
Just craic on woman I'll come over and help you.
You are beautiful Vanessa such a genuine lady you're eyes could melt a man's heart
TURKEYS
Well if got fermale goat see goat cheese.
