- If I could have only one 8mm Mauser, I would probably choose to own Iranian Mauser.
These rifles were born in 1930s in Czechoslovakian Brno arsenal, but served in the Iranian desert all the way into the late 70s.
The Iranian army veterans considered their Brno Mausers, as the best military rifle of its time.
Iranian Mauser was based on the general Mauser Gewehr 98 design from WWI, but more specifically, the Czechoslovak army’s vz.24
This rifle’s official Iranian designation M-1310 denotes the year it was accepted for service using Iran’s old imperial calendar. 1310 in Persian Calendar converts to 1931.
Today, Iranian Mausers could be found inside the United Sates at rather affordable prices, and usually are perfectly preserved, with almost pristine rifling, which makes them very attractive to collectors who enjoy shooting their rifles.
M1310 are considered as one of the most precise Mausers as well, so let’s find out how they actually shoot at our course!

Hey rob would you please do a video on the Kentucky long rifle and the Spencer Carbine?!
Outstanding, 700 yds on iron sights, even with a bad back Rob can outshoot most people!
My brother paid $50.00 for one from a guy that needed the money.. so i took it to clean up and sale. The action was sticky and would barely function, after cleaning it up the action is butter smooth & when i took a light and looked down the bore i could not belive how clean & crisp it looked. I honestly can't tell if it was even fired .
Steal of the century! Ha!
From what I know, they were often kept as a status symbol and not really used. That's why you can find many of them in mint condition,
with all numbers matching, including the bayonet.
That could explain why so many of these are literally in the "mint" condition.
I can't even see the target at 700yrds. Excellent work
Very nicely done folks!! Thanks for taking us along. Have a great weekend, and I hope that your back gets better!! I understand that problem!!
I just looked up the price of this rifle in my 1963 Service Armament Co./Navy Arms Catalog and it was listed @$29.95 back then. The Carbine model was listed @$34.95. The 8mm ammo was $6.00/100.
Robert, those days will never comeback...thank you for sharing this!
@@VintageRiflesShootersClub True, inflation is a beach. I bought a mosin rifle for $12.98 and a 1891 Argentine Cavalry Carbine for $25 back then. I wish I still had them.
Ok, my Persian Mauser story. Two of my friends had beautiful condition examples, Argentin and Swede. I wanted such. Found the Persians for sale, asked details on the best condition available. Selected the excellent with matching bayonet and original test target. Never did take it to the range because I then got a VZ 24 in great shape that shot great. Still got it. The test target is wax paper with the same Lion as the receiver.
Very nice, thank you for sharing your story here!
Hi Rob: I've had a bunch of variations of the Mauser 98 action both military and commercial but I could never quite get my hands on the M1310. Yours a really nice example.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
It’s amazing how these old Bolt action rifles can still perform the way they did originally. A little love and oil is all it takes
those rifles truly can shoot very well!
You are the man. Damn a 700 neck shot with iron sights. Get in the truck. Hats off my brother.
Thank you - I enjoy your videos and was unaware of the reputation of this particular Mauser. Solid hits with open sights at 700 yards is impressive shooting!
When a huge lot of Iranian Mausers were imported in the late 90s, they were either well used, or in excellent condition. Most were in fantastic condition. Like new rifles were common.
I never bought one for myself as they were kind of pricey back then. The importers knew they had a valuable commodity, and did not sell them cheap.
in Germany we occasional get the chance to buy one of them. prices are usually between 800 and 1200 €
No kidding, so on rather expensive side!
@@VintageRiflesShootersClub welcome to Germany 😅
wish we could have shooting ranges like you have... unfortunately we usually have 100 metre ranges. god forbid a deer shows up on 150 or even 200 metres, noone knows how the bullet will fly 😂
Beautiful rifle. I love those old Mausers.
You have an great job🙏👍
That last shot was money
700 yard head shot
Beautiful rifle 🎉🎉
Thats a dream -mauser,czech ones are best anyway ☺️ beautifull choice ❤️
I love the Persian/Iranian Mauser. I have a 1390 Czech made Mauser (the short carbine) and its very accurate up to 300 yards on steel plates (as far my old eyes can effectively shoot nowadays). My uncle picked it up in the early 60's for $12.95 with the bayonet/sheath and 100 rounds of surplus WWII German 8mm ammo. I still have some of the German ammo left (I considered it collectors ammo.). My uncle used it for deer hunting with more modern soft points.
Rob always has very nice stuff.
Impressive looking rifle along with impressive shooting performance . Congrats ! I really enjoy all your videos . Keep up the enjoyable reviews .
Superb shooting and gun handling as always. With the high cost of Mauser snipers, that rifle would be a great project as a faux sniper, with a long eye relief scope on the rear sight. I converted my M24/47 Yugo Mauser a couple of years ago due to these 60 odd year old eyes getting too weak for the irons. I enjoy the IS 8mm, nice stout round.
Great video! I am an old shooter/collector. I started shooting guns in Africa when i was only 12. I am now just shy of 70.
I was lucky to purchase a BRNO 98/29 just like yours in 2012 for about $800.00, but it was UNISSUED! Mint bore! To me, this is not a rifle, it is a treasure that must be saved for posterity, so, never fired it, never will. Ironically, my wife is Persian! She can easily read the Farsi markings on it. 700 yards shot is already impressive, but I can assure you: if you shoot these old Turkish cupro-nickel jacketed rounds, you should easily be able to score good hits at 1000 yards! Try that with an AK-47!!
I've had some of these. They were Brno made and quite clean condition. 8mm. Cheap ammo, good ballistics.
Persians are by far my favorite Mausers ever. Phenomenal quality, superbly accurate, it is both form and function combined.
Couldn't agree more!
Great video
Great video. Really
Rob as usual , shows off his expert shooting even with back pain!!!!
Erich, that Mauser chiropractor me back to 100% with it's recoil, lol!
Nice!👍
That is absolutely beautiful , just stunning . 😊
Brilliant !☘
I've had one of these in the safe for almost 30 years now, but I thought they were called a Persian 98/29???
Official nomenclature in Iran was M1310. But outside, it was basically Mauser 98/29
Gr8 shooting Rob! With iron sights as well 😍👌 Good to see the old school firearms still shooting well. I have an 1893 Spanish Mauser, refurbed by Israel and rebarrelled in 7.62 X 51 or .308 of course. It shoots a lot better than my 61+ yr old eyes can see nowadays.
Hope your back gets better soon, cheers from Australia 😁👍
I have 4 of them and all in near mint condition. They all shoot like yours. Almost a “Ballard” style deep wide 4 groove rifling. I reload the old 175 grain Remington PSCL I bought 20 years ago. A wonderful hunting weapon and another epic video sir.
I don't blame you for hoarding on these. Those rifles are pure riot!
Nice rifle.
Looks like a Mauser and a Mosin had a baby🎉
Hahahaha, but actually Iranians wanted to have standard rifle which won’t be from either Soviets (Mosin) or British (Enfield), so they decided to roll with Mauser.
Sometimes i wish I had kept every single surplus rifle i owned. Mine was identical to this one.
I remember seeing UNISSUED MAUSERS FOR SALE. EVEN " BAYOs" could be had.
I bought one some 20 years ago form Galleon's Sporting Goods for $350.00. It was in almost pristine condition and shiny bore after cleaning it, with the original sighting target from the BRNO factory in 1933. Too bad it was stolen from me. These were indeed very accurate rifles using even the worse Turkish surplus 1940s ammo, Persian, and Yugoslavian. The Persian BRNO liked the Yugoslavian 1950s and 60s ammo because of their strict quality. at I00 yards it grouped at 5 inches very close ant at point of aim because of the high front sight base, much higher that most Mauser type military sights.
Sorry to hear it, that sucks...
You should cover the king of the mausers the Swedish m96 in 6.5x55
I didnt know this was even a thing! I'm Persian and both my parents knew about this rifle when I showed them this video....where can I buy one 😭
At 300 and 700 hundred yards, how 'wide' does the front sight or the rear notch look ? ( eg, when does the front post look bigger than the target ?) Also, what do the Iranian's measure in. What is it compared to metres ?
700yds target looks like a dust speckle on the top of the front post. Sights are calibrated for meters
Holy crap😂 that 700 boom baby
I got my 98/29 last year with 800 bucks. The seller thought it was an Iran made copy so others were not that interested. My friend and I just took that as granted until we did some research this year and found out that all long rifles were made by BRNO (my one has the BRNO rifle engraving on it), now the price is about 1600-1800 for a BRNO Persian rifle😂.
I have an Iranian mauser mine is very short tho shorter then a standard kar98k. it has the brno markings on it with iranian sights
I think those are hard to find. You did well!
@@VintageRiflesShootersClub Thank you sir I picked it up at a show in Virginia, it's in great condition very well made she is accurate but has some kick
Much more difficult than using glass.
Definitely much more demanding.
Compare the Iranian Mausers in great condition to a German 98K in the same condition price wise and the Iranian guns are a steal to say the least.
Totally agree!
Back in the 90's I had an 8mm Mauser. It was quite a short rifle, 2/3 inches shorter than a friend's Kar 98K. The only factory Ammo I shot from it was some 1941 and 1942 cartridges for BESA Machine Guns. I thought this ammo was rubbish, accurate, but I barely knew it had gone off as the recoil was so mild (made my 243 feel like a thumper). Got a chance to chrono it - 2660 fps, pulled & weighed some of the bullets - 198 grains. How can a cartridge that powerful shoot so mildly?
Weight and comb angel play a huge role in recoil mgmt, including shooting position as well.
That rifle is much nicer looking than any military Mauser I've ever seen. Too bad it doesn't have a bent bolt handle.
The straight handle is pretty much standard on long rifles. Gives better leverage anyway.
@@Dominic1962 My first Mauser clone was a 98K style with a straight bolt handle. I hated that feature, but I only had $22 tied up in my half of the purchase.
I Love my YUGO M48 so much so that had the bolt bent even more, Drilled and Tapped for mounts and Scoped. It will Group 3/4 at 100 yards with ( it's all I use) Hornady Custom 195 gr SP .
The guy at 700 is not laughing now!
You can get a " cousin" of this rifle. Made in Czech The 1922 mauser
You and Henry over at 9 Hole need to do some collaborations.
Let's go fishing for 700 haha ;)
Lol, I know it sounds bad, but I didn't have a dope for 700yds or 600yds for that rifle. But it was worth it!
👍
I would say have some slivovica but that is a Muslim rifle!
What ammo were you using? The K98K sights were regulated for the 196gr MG ammo.
سلام دهنت سرویس این برنو بلند ۱۳۰۹ به این تمیزی ازکجا گیرآوردی؟به هرصورت مبارکت باشه.من یک موزر متوسطbyf1943 دارم🎉
Amazing shooting. I love the history and the sense of joy that you and Ula bring to the sport. Well done guys. Fantastic. Sorry about the bad back - Dr Mandell (motivationaldoc on youtube) has a great morning stretch immediately after getting up. Also, hot wheat bags help with the pain and speed recovery. thanks for the video, from an old guy with a bad back!
Thank you David! It's better right now. I just did something really stupid and had to pay the piper for it! lol!
Just dont buy Iranian 8mm Mauser surplus ammo. That was the most dangerous stuff ive ever shot. Most rounds were duds and the ones that did go off, most of them would hang fire up to almost a minute later. It was scary.
Sparta ain’t got sh!t on these
Hahahaha! Right?!
I have two of them. Generally speaking, they are called Persian Mausers, not Iranian. Iran and Iraq were formed out of Persia.
Well, Persian Mauser is the term created inside USA. In 1935, the Persian government changed the name of the country from “Persia” to “Iran. Brno was shipping rifles up to the 1938/39, until Czechoslovakia was taken over by the Germans...
No they were not. Iran and Persia are the same thing. Iraq is unrelated to Persia/Iran. And Iran hadn’t controlled Iraq in centuries by the time they adopted this rifle.
Rob.... what's your site picture with Iranian irons at 700 yds? Guessing front sight blade wider than 700 yd steel tgt.... amazing eagle eyes.... PS - big debate next Tues 9/10.... God saved him for reason.... Vote.... good day
Target looks like a little dust particle sitting on the top of my front post - that’s how I’m seeing it anyway, lol. Also, interestingly enough, as I’m getting older, I found that opening my left eye, helps sometimes to fish out more details in the right eye. I have no clue how it works, but I’m guessing that maybe I’m relaxing some eye nerves then and it works better? Worth trying for sure! lol!
Just dont make them like they used too...
