  • Hello.
In this section, we are in Borcka district of Artiv, on the banks of the Coruh River.
    Have fun watching.
It is understood from the examination of written sources that the first settlers in the region, including Artvin and Borcka, were "HURRIS" from Central Asia. B.C. It is known that starting from the year 2000, the Hurrians established a state in a wide region including the region. Later, with the collapse of the Hittite Empire, the Urartians spread to the Borcka region, BC. Cimmerians between 720 and 714 BC. It is mentioned in various sources that Sakalar and later Arsaklis dominated in 655 BC.
M.S. From 576 onwards, the Eastern Romans dominated the region. During the reign of Caliph Osman, the Islamic Army defeated the Eastern Roman army in 645 and dominated this region. Later, Umayyads, Khazar Turks and Bagratids dominated the region.
After the establishment of the Great Seljuk State, Artvin, Borcka, Savsat, Yusufeli and Ardanuc joined the Seljuk lands in 1063.
Borcka is a cute settlement on the eastern end of the Black Sea region, on the Erzurum-Artvin-Hopa-Batum road, on the banks of the Coruh River. Borcka, which has the unique beauty created by the steep and impenetrable snowy mountains, lush forests, deep beds and vicious streams, is 32 km from the city center of Borcka.
Forming a border with Hopa in the west, Artvin and Murgul in the south, Şavşat in the east and Georgia in the north, the distance from the sea is 36 kilometers and an altitude of 125 meters.
Steep and impassable mountains cover a large part of the district's lands. The Coruh valley divides this mountainous region into two. The mountains are so high that in most places wide valley formations do not allow. This feature also prevented the spread of arable land to large areas. There are no plains in the district.
The eastern extension of the Eastern Black Sea mountain range occupies a large part of the district's territory. The most important ridge, located in the north of the Çoruh valley in the east of the district, is the "Karçal Mountain". Located in the south of the Çoruh valley, it gives a pass with the "Balıklı Mountain Lifekurtaran Pass". Large and small hills, which are the extensions of these mountains, provide the rugged appearance of the district's lands.
Deep valleys separating mountains and hills form stream beds with high flow rate and regime. The Çoruh River, flowing in the great valley of the district, enters the territory of Artvin from the borders of Erzurum, takes the Murgul, İçkale, Deviskel streams in Borcka, and finally the Ararat, Karşıköy and Güreşen streams, passes through the Muratlı Village and enters the Georgian borders and leaves the country.
Black Sea climate is dominant in Borcka District. In summer and winter, abundant precipitation and warm weather prevail.
The vegetation consists of trees and pastures. The pastures are mostly on the valley floors. The slopes of the mountains overlooking the valley are decorated with the "forest sea" formed by spruce, fir and pine trees. At higher elevations, leaves such as oak, chestnut and alder are mixed with these trees. The scarcity of arable land has caused the destruction of forests. The contribution of the local forests to the environment and the country's economy is great.
According to the 2020 Population data of the district, the total population is 22,684, and the population of the district center is 11,395. Since the natural structure of the villages complicates the living conditions, the phenomenon of continuous migration from rural areas to city centers and generally outside the province is observed. Although there is a mass settlement in the district center, scattered settlements dominate in the villages due to the mountainous terrain.
Tea and hazelnut production, which is common in the district, is the most important source of income for the local people.
The share of animal husbandry in the economic life of the district is low. Livestock is entirely for domestic consumption. Beekeeping is common in forest villages.
Although Borcka has natural and historical riches with tourism value, the tourism sector in the district is not developed enough.
    That's it from Borcka.
In the next part, we will be in the Center of Artvin.
    Don't forget to follow us.
