Great video… don’t listen to the bay sayers…. You learn through experience and I think the mark of good skippering is knowing when to adopt the alternate plan. By turning back, you guys did that and should be commended. Well done 👏🏻

Excellent episode! Next time you catch a tuna, when you grill tuna steaks, cook a few extra to make tuna salad the following day or so. It's is great.

Good idea 😆 I’m not big on fish so probably wouldn’t eat it with salad either but Jase loves it!

Your autopilot has an auto-tack facility built in. Just push the auto-tack button and the boat will tack as you deal with sheets and lines. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

Ah yes we’ve since discovered that and it’s great!! First we didn’t realise it steered you back in so we were still steering in with the degree’s buttons and then wondering why we had gone too far back the other way and Then we tried the next time without doing that and it was perfect! Much easier than trying to steer ourselves 😅thanks for the tip. Cheers

Ok guys, a bit of cockpit discipline, get those halyard tails tidied up. Once the sails are set coil everything up and get them off the cockpit floor. If your tacking it is easier to get Janie to helm while Jason do the sheet handling. Both of you need to spend more time on the helm. Get a feel for the boat. The trick is to ease, ease, ease then reef. You both need to learn how to plan a trip properly including overnight and you need much more experience before you think of tackling an Atlantic crossing. Read, study and practise. Learn to sail. You are obvious rubes, not a dig just being honest. You must learn and accept your limitations. Sailing is wonderful but the sea must be respected.😊

Good advice. Ocean's are unforgiving and don't care about ignorance or experience.

    • @LeadingtheEscapade
      @LeadingtheEscapade  2 роки тому +3

Hey Bob 😊. We usually do tidy up the lines and put some back inside the line bags or up on the cockpit seats, our main halyard is notoriously long so it really needs to be trimmed. Sometimes their are times where we’re tacking straight out of the bay back and forth and haven’t had time yet to tidy them up
You’ll see in a future episode, our next 2 day and 2 night passage we planned much better and did it successfully. Our episode’s are about 3.5 months behind so always when we read comments from episodes we’ve just posted we’ve already learnt so much since that time and are feeling much more confident
I know we didn’t plan well for this overnight passage, We planned it horribly. Unfortunately we couldn’t leave the boat for 3 days in vlore as we were already checked out of the country, I was sick and we had no real food to prep, we didn’t plan shifts, I think we didn’t really believe it was going to happen. Anyway we’ve learnt loads since then and of course the Atlantic isn’t planned until over another year away of full time cruising
We know how to sail 😅 how can you not after a year and a half full time on the water, of course every new situation brings new learning experiences and you never stop improving and learning new little tips and tricks and each area/sea brings new weather systems to get used to, This was one of those situations
      Thanks for your advice 😇

Nice video! I love Montenegro 😁 Look on the bright side when its time to sail across the Atlantic it's the old saying "sail south until the butter melts" then it's usually a downwind sail across to the Caribbean.

I think you said it all when you said you had not planned properly for an overnight sail. Once you have a system that works for you going then it will not be such a big deal.

Hahah we didn’t come over from Australia by boat, We’d be pro by now if we did that 😮 we bought the boat in Greece and have just travelled the med so far! But we’ve done a fair few countries so far, but because it’s fairly close together we haven’t really had to do an overnight sail yet. But we will be continuing to deliberately do them to gain confidence 😆

Why do you go to sea when all u do is whine? Learn to trust your vessel, or stay ashore… all we old sea dogs have a HEALTHY respect for the sea, trust in your self, the vessel, and LISTEN to the skipper

I’m not whining at all, I’m telling my audience how I’m feeling and what the conditions are like…that’s the whole point of a vlog to chat to the camera . Plus We’ve only been out here full time for a year a bit and all of that comes with time

What a knob, from one old seadog to another I think your comment is very rude and uncalled for. We all have to start somewhere and these
Guys are out there doing it, challenging themselves and learning as they go. Keep your rude comments to yourself. Most people would be too scared to even venture out a harbour let alone sell up everything, fly across the world and buy a boat. Encourage and teach from your lavish armchair rather than criticise and whinge. No one is making you watch or comment so please be kind.
