A lot of people that you think won't quality for it, does and a lot of people you think should qualify for it, won't, therefore it's also a roll of the dice, judging by how she keeps her elbows bent and the deformation, it's quite severe stage and I would instead recommend a joint replacement instead
@@victoria5798 if we really don't have a good medical reason to keep said patient inmobile and housebound is actually not good as a person can actually drift in to a really bad spiral, when considering decisions made with a patient, we always consider everything, imagine a doctor saying to you, you have to be housebound because your arms are too poor to drive. And RA although is a disease that flares up, it's has calm moments and it dosent feel anything, so are you going to housebound a person on their worst baseline given they can actually perform the same as you when it's calm? There are accessible seat belts that are for people who have the problems she's got.
Maybe she's not aware of it. Or its too expensive for her to afford and insurance won't pay for it.
@@joemann7971 if she's in the united states there are state programs for disabled people the best example of it because they all have different names and I only know the one in my state is California Department of Rehabilitation. They typically will find the accessible items and either fully pay or pay what the disabled person can't. But yes its fully possible that she doesn't know of the seat belt.
@@victoria5798 or it just isn't available in her region or she can't qualify. In the UK where I practice, you first need at OT (occupational therapist) to examine you to recommend you have this sort of thing, then the doctors will review her condition and decide is it required based on what the OT or PT says. A lot of people that you think won't quality for it, does and a lot of people you think should qualify for it, won't, therefore it's also a roll of the dice, judging by how she keeps her elbows bent and the deformation, it's quite severe stage and I would instead recommend a joint replacement instead
@@chunheiso5806 yeah. but depending on if it's an autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis and age it could do more harm than good.
And also RA and OA only gives you stiffness and reduce range of motion, it won't actually affect cognition and their ability to make wise decision given the information they have. So I actually would prefer someone with severe OA behind the wheel that is highly experienced rather than a teen that is driving recklessly.
