So glad to see this covered. Rotisserie construction is an often overlooked, but essential survival skill. You know, I've read accounts of people going bush with only a single spice blend in their kit. So irresponsible.
What an absurdly ingeniously inefficient way of cooking chicken 😅 Cheers to yours being one of the quirkiest outdoor channels on the intarweb mate, your videos have a real charm to them. Some serious bushcraft strength going on as well!
Mate, it was honestly unreal. The fact that the rotisserie was a success just added such an awesome vibe to an already amazing arvo/evening down on the river. Just sitting back while that thing turned was so bloody cool. I loved it. Can definitely recommend having a crack! Thanks for watching man 🙏🙏
Yeah I just had another look and you’re correct, I wonder where I got the 85/86 from 🤔 Either way it turned out bloody perfect and juicy 👌 Thanks for that!
@@The_Stoic_PhilosopherAU Yeah I’m definitely considering writing some kind of book or maybe just one with a few random thoughts jotted down with an image from my adventures. I have found I am enjoying writing so there’s something to be done with it for sure. Thanks for saying so though too mate
Yewwwww!! Third times a charm Mattsy! Haha bloody brilliant stuff and congrats on a successful rotisserie! I look forward to given it a crack myself and Xander is the bomb diggity too! Can’t wait to see a collab in the future with you two and also perhaps Rob Parsons from Tassie and of course Scotty! Haha (my handful of favourite and inspiring outdoor creatives!) cheers mate!! Whooo!! -Liam 🇦🇺 🤙🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
Silly mate! The vibes in this are top notch. The opening words were great. I feel like you have tried a new formula here, and it was so good. Loved to see your progression with the editing, pulling it up to speed with your excellent story telling. Killed it bother! Also how good are the Alton chairs hey, you pimp. I always strap it to the bottom of my pack so it doesn't take up room and I barely notice it.
Cheers man! Yeah I’ve definitely been working on some new filming and editing techniques. I’m keen to apply it to a slightly longer overnight adventure to see how the pace works out. Thanks for noticing man 😂 And yep, good idea. It feels like it weighs the same as a loaf of bread haha
Damm that chicken looked moist and tender as. That's so cool I'd never think of doing that, Bet it tasted amazing especially cooked over that beautiful camp fire. Stay blessed mate
Another great video mate, was still hoping to see more of the out-takes from the first two attempts but still love seeing your success on this adventure. Great job.
Mate, that's a hell of a big dinner for one person! Good to see another go at this idea though... I've been wanting to give it a go since I saw @ERIKOFFTRACK attempt it a few years ago (before Xander... who probably got the idea off Erik 😂). Problem is, we don't have any fast running streams in my neck of the woods, so I'm just going to have to live vicariously through the youtubes. Great to see another honest video where you talk about the fails too, lol.
Haha! I’m sure he did 😂😂 I had to go find the video where Erik had a crack at it after a few others mentioned his attempt at it. Poor bugger! That was a mammoth rotisserie, I wish it had worked haha Always happy to show the fails 😅 It’s real life! Thanks for watching as always, Amy!
It was honestly the best roast chicken I’ve ever had! It was so damn juicy. Plus, I fair bit of work went into finally getting to taste it 😂 Made for such an enjoyable arvo/evening.
That was a great video your doing great with them keep it up, vibes were on point and there is nothing I would rather watch before bed than that. It’s really interesting seeing these videos where your doing something other than just camping, it makes for a more interesting video. Also the shirt and jumper look great, I would love to get some mercy and support you and get the merch but I just don’t have the money for that shirt at the moment I’ll be keeping an aye out for any sales though
First saw this done on a video by Fire To Fork but they used empty beer cans for the paddles on the rotisserie. It is a great idea & I like your way better, less possible waste to be left behind.
Never seen a river powered rotisserie. Real nice! Also nicely edited and nice music choices! Always enjoy your vids. Keep it up mattsy. Ps you always have some good tunes. Can you start putting some song credits in description please. Who sings the one about living on the moon? Reminds me of John prine a bit.
Thanks Andy! 🙌 I appreciate it. Will do. That’s a good idea, that music is off a website subscription so I’m not sure you’d find it elsewhere but I’ll take a look!
Ha ha yep the slowest way to cook chicken, and how hikes into the bush with a whole chicken when you have to cook and eat on the first night but man a lot of fun to do it anyway
Well done pun intended. Some years back Eric offtrack tried this but lacked the cabbage palm sheaths as paddles. 3 times a charm and well deserved reward. Did u actually finish the whole thing off?
The cabbage tree palms were perfect. I thought of them when a palm tree branch fell down from my neighbours tree when I got home one day. I was thinking so much about the rotisserie it just clicked immediately 😂😂
Hey mate, this was a while back now so I can’t remember exactly, but it was probably about an hour and a half, five or take? I was down there late in the day so got it on not long before sunset. It gets dark quickly that time of year. But it tasted bloody good and it was a fun experiment 👌
mmm hmm! looks real good. Watching you build the wheel paddle-thingo from scratch, the fire, and waiting 3-4 hours to cook it was Epic, to watch u carve that tender flesh open, well... Perfecto-Mundo baby!!

I think the 2 fork branches , & a stick with a make do handle would have been a bit quicker . as u would have been starving watching it turn in darkness
Well fortunately this wasn’t a survival situation and I was down there for fun and to enjoy tinkering and experimenting with something unique, enjoying the outdoors at the same time. It was the perfect arvo/evening and I had a blast. Wasn’t starving and the chicken was well worth the wait 😄
So glad to see this covered. Rotisserie construction is an often overlooked, but essential survival skill. You know, I've read accounts of people going bush with only a single spice blend in their kit. So irresponsible.
Really good viewing I’ve watched 4 so far . Cool
Cabbage tree palm fronds for the win! Nice one mate, almost makes up for the bacon.
Hahaha 🤣 🤣 I’ll take a win where I can!

OMFG I can't think of a better way to spend a Arvo and evening!!! It's definately one of the cooks I want to have a crack at !!

Bloody ripper Mattsy nothing beats cooking over coals by a river in the Aussie bush mate awesome.
I couldn’t agree more Rod! Cheers for watching as usual, mate. 🙏🙏
Can't beat cooking over the fire, even better out bush with the riverside view. Awesome idea with the bush craft rotisserie mate 🔥🔥🔥
Not wrong, mate! Cheers for watching 😄
One of my favourite arvos/evenings spent solo out on a trip. So good!
Bloody awesome. I reckon the constant turning keeps the juices in. Either way, YUM

Haha! That it does! 😄🙌🙌
Perfect Sunday mornin. Filing an axe in the shed and a Silly Swagman vid pops up. Sweet!
Haha how good 😆😆
75 degrees, is the peak temperature of cooking chicken!

Haha! Legend! 😂😂
@@TheSillySwagman Mate that was so good! It also looked quiet simple. The paddle blades were such a good option. Loved it. I need to do this! 😂
@@advanturest Yeah it really is! It mostly just comes down to the flow of the river, and getting the paddles right. Not too difficult at all!
Great video, the chicken looked delicious. Keep pumping out the videos. Thanks for sharing
