I think these are a shoe of the year contender, for me personally at least. I enjoy them more than my Superblasts. Bouncy, responsive, stable, can pick up the pace despite their size, and feel great if I'm moving at a snails pace on a recovery run. These are a 10/10.

@@ganchinhoSuperblast is lacking some comfort, more for fresh legs, and faster. Sucks for recovery days. Mag max is more comfortable, can pick up the pace, a little heavier. Great for recovery days.
Before your video I had seriously been considering both Puma Magmax and the Glideride max as my easy run shoes. I can't decide which one so I might get them both. I am glad you are giving thumbs up to my choices.
This is actually the older Nitro Elite foam in the MagMax from the Deviate Elite 1 and 2. Running Warehouse confirmed it with Puma-they've gotten a bit confusing as they only label the newer Aliphatic TPU "Nitro Elite" now (in the Deviate Elite 3 and Fast-R2). But it explains why this feels so much bouncier than the regular Nitro infused EVA in shoes like the Velocity or Magnify.
@@noahjrt Feels like a marketing misstep, it's unfortunate it creates confusion in their lineup but it really makes a shoe like this something of a sleeper. My first run in this I knew it was the Peba instead of the regular Nitro foam, it's a night and day difference in bounce.

Which, with all the confusion, I’m sure is currently being discussed by the suits at Puma. For now I’ll just wait for this sleeper to arrive and enjoy the dirty little secret it is!
These did remind me of the deviate nitro 2, glad it’s the old mix. Wasn’t feeling the new foam on the nitro elite 3, something about it is just kind of flat and blah
Looking forward to the Glycerin Max review. Both of those shoes look brilliant. Of course, the EVO SL also is really interesting as a non-SuperMax, lighter option. Thank-you, Adidas for coming out with Boost foam and starting this arms race in shoe tech all those years ago.
Loved the ride of the MagMax but very clunky at slow speeds for me and hard to get a good lockdown, I found the upper sloppy and I had to really crank the laces down to get any sort of fit and it was too tight. The glycerine max however has an amazing upper and it worked way better for me personally
Fun review for what seems like a fun shoe. I just bought the Forever Run for 60 bucks. But the MagMax is definitely on my list for next year. I'm also using VN2 for steady runs. Love that shoe. Puma has me with their Nitro foams.
Great review, although I didn’t wait for it to buy a pair. Was looking for recovery/ long run / cushioned shoe, and the Magmax seemed to tick all the boxes (at a great price too ~USD100 where I live after some discounts). Can confirm that I may have wanted to size up a bit, got my normal US9.5, and there’s less space at the front than I usually like. It didn’t cause any issue, but just a word of caution. On the ride, I initially felt it a bit firm (for a what I was expecting as a cushioned shoe), the foam broke in a bit by now, so the bounce is more perceptible. It seems the bounce is also depending on how on my gait, if landing mid-forefoot it’s fine, but landing flat to the ground, the shoe is more muted. Enjoying it so far. But I wouldn’t consider it as cushion/pillow type of feel, if that’s what people are looking for.
I recall a conversation with Puma saying that the Liberate was supposed to get an update. Even more firm and responsive than the prior year and possibly a shank? Not sure if that ever made it to market though
Great video, the way you described this shoe reminds me of the Mizuno Wave Rebellion 2, high stack, firm and I believe the difference is that I can pick up the pace with Mizuno, like I wont be able to do with the PumaMax.
I apologize if I miscommunicated. The MagMax is not firm and that is precisely why I like it. Also, the MagMax is the opposite of the Wave Rebellion 2 in terms of use case.
Just got my Magmax pair, only two runs so far. I’m really impressed with the grip compared to my Novablast. These and the Deviate Nitro 3’s are my first pumas and so far so good.
I have the full lineup, Deviate Nitro 3 Elite, Deviate Nitro 3 and Magmax and after never using Puma running shoes before I am super happy with my rotation.
Same here. Got the Deviate Nitro 2 and was surprised how good it was. Now have the 3s and need to wear out some easy day shoes or I'd jump on these right away.

I love the more v5! Wearing them more than any other of my shoes atm (and I have a lot! 😅). They are so much more comfortable than my superblast 2 and I don't really feel the weight difference that much when running in them. I could run in them forever and my feet and joints never start to hurt, in contrast to some other "max cushion" shoes.
Have this shoe and love it up to about 8 min per mile . Best when you had a hard workout prior or a race and feel beat up . I got my normal size and it is perfect. If I am trying to push to 7 min per mile it is just working against the shoe. If going fast it is too heavy and soft ; it is a recovery shoe for sure . Recovery and daily easy miles it is delightful. I am 6’1” and 210 lbs and very different build from kofuzi and still like the puma mag max
I love my puma elite 3, it is my race day. I use the superblast 2 as my training one and nova blast 4 as a daily. I opted for the the superblast as I feel it is a bit more versatile against the puma mag max.

I wonder if shoes like the MagMax and the Glycerin Max would be a good choice for me who is on the heavier side (88kg) and looking for a shoe for my first marathon aiming at around 4 hours (or more) finish time?
they could be, although if you're currently happy with the shoes you're running your long runs in, whatever those may be might be good to consider as well
With Kofuzi being such a forefoot striker, all these high stack shoes, mainly stacking on the heel, seem completely redundant. Wonder if he would have a better experience with such shoes if he starts landing slightly behind.
redundant isn't quite the right word, but I get what you mean. If you look at the wear pattern on my shoes (in any of my 100 mile update videos, for example), you'll see that I'm not so forefoot as you think
Like Kofuzi, my coach's wife- an expert consultant with various shoe brands--alleges that the vast majority of all runners touch down on the lateral edge just about parallel to the the front of the heel bones before pronating to full heel, midfoot or forefoot strike, and that patch of outsole usually shoes first wear in most shoes.

I currently have a Triumph 20 and the older Magnify Nitro 2 which I both like, so I'm looking at the next Puma and/or Saucony replacement for those 2 shoes. The Glycerin Max is also a contender, by the way. Or maybe the new NB More v5 as it's slightly cheaper than these other max cushion shoes.

when I say Adidas like an American, I get heckled by the British
when I say Puma like a German, I get heckled by the British
@@kofuzi you're not the only one that says it poo-ma, think it's just the American way. I'm a Brit and say pew-ma. I'm not sure which is correct 🤣 I like the review, I think these will be my next purchase I think. Never bought puma before but after getting the magnify 2 and Deviate 2 I'm impressed.
Puma not available in Romania. make it available! We run a lot here, you can sell a lot (this is for the inbecils that make the market strategy).
