I love Vera! I’m Australian and my family watch it religiously. Because she’s not a dolly curvy blonde who is unrealistically portraying someone with normally decades of experience, Brenda is realistic, cranky, compassionate, kind and human. I hope this series never ends. British tv is SO much better than American!

I love the fact that the Male cops are often unkempt, short, fat, hairy, bald but the females are always portrayed as well made up, high end clothing, stiletto heels etc this Female Cop is short, dowdy, looks like an unmade bed, no makeup, rarely visits the hairdresser but plays the part so well

Fantastic, down to earth crime show. No sex , swearing , or false pretences. What you see is what you get. A great series. Hope there’s many more to come. Well done to the British , they make the best shows.

Brenda Blethyn is so perfect for the role of Vera and really makes the series work. The show is well cast all-around but Blethyn's Vera has you impatiently looking forward to the next episode.
I just started watching Vera A few weeks ago and have fallen in love with this show. You might even say I am almost addicted to it. I love the character Brenda plays and she does it brilliantly. I see a strength and a vulnerability in that character maybe that’s why I love it so much. Everyone on this show are talented and very believable and the characters they portray. Brenda has brought the character of Vera to life.

I love the character of Vera. She is Uber sleuth. Hard driving police inspector. And she shows the compassion of a social worker. She can be maternal, too. Great character. Excellent actor.
Yes, dear Brenda Blethyn is a wonderful actress no matter what the role but in Vera she is perfection. Love her and the series....can't get enough of both and hope there will be many more seasons. First Class !

Oh, I dance for joy when I see a "Vera" series being posted by our PBS stations. The best series ever on TV. I adore Brenda Blethyn so much, have been a fan of hers for ages. In some ways, she reminds me of my late father's big sister, that giggle, the twinkle in her eye, very determined. May this series live on for many years to come.

I love this show too for all the reasons Brenda points out....I also love the way Vera still calls people Pet as she arrests them for murder and reads them their rights...I also love her daggy (I m an Aussie too) fashion sense
I love this show because, i love the bbc crime shows, a woman lead, and its not gory and full of bad language and unnecessary sex that many programs are filled with for no reason . I throughly enjoyed it. Well done!

I'm American and I'm serious Vera addict! It's always so hard when I complete a season because then I have to wait a year sometimes more a little more you know to get Vera new episodes. And she is right we really don't have a lead female detective in American TV which is weird. I love this actress and she did such an incredible job in the law and order episode she did some years ago. And I like how she dresses. It's nice mix and match.
Fantastic show. My only issue is the seasons are never long enough :-( you can’t beat an English crime show.
Right, but they spend six months filming those four episodes. Big part of why they're so good.
Love the show. I’ll even watch re runs. Lovely interview. Those moors look stunning. The way Brenda plays Vera make her seem so real. British crime shows work because if someone is supposed to be woken up to get out of bed, they look it! They’re not beautifully made up etc. if they’re eating, they’re eating - not just pushing it around a plate. It looks real, not fake. ( and the acting is better!) 👵👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
VERA is my binge during the CV19 isolation. Even of I've seen the show, I forget who the killer is so it's all new again. I have noticed that the show has a very small wardrobe budget, but that's part of the charm. Hope their making more shows.
Recently in the episodes I've been watching I think they gave Vera a new trench coat...Also, I wish I knew where to get a purple blouse like the one she wears in several episodes!
Personally, I think Vera is so popular because it's well written, beautifully filmed and BRILLIANTLY acted. Brenda Blethyn is a MASSIVELY underrated actress who always brings life and believability to any of her roles.
I like her so much. I always enjoy interviews with her and I LOVE Vera. Not only is it beautifully written and acted, it's so much smarter than police/detective shows in the U.S. And there are no guns, which the U.S. depends on in shows about detectives and police. Love her.

Actually, I see the British Vera as the equivalent of our American Colombo! They both sport rather ‘slouchy’ clothing, pay little attention to their appearance but get the job done with gile and dogged determination! You’ve fans in California, Brenda!

Watched the entire series in two weeks. Love Vera, the seascapes and Northumbria landscape, how it's filmed, the stories, the characters, and especially Brenda Blethyn portrayal of Vera; the way she dresses, and her cute smile. Vera is a perfect crime drama without the nasty stuff most shows drag along that takes away from the story. Love it! Can't wait for season 12. Oh, and the music is perfect! Please keep filming more.♥♥♥♥♥

Vera broke all stereotypes in film industry. She doesn't need to wear lipstick or sexy outfits or high heels. She is a very confident woman who knows how to get job done. I always admire Brit writers because they don't destroy characters the way Hollywood does.

Very fit running up and down stairs, and walking briskly on those moors. Very realistic characterization of a woman who has a career she is married to. Not quite the wifey type. Lives on coffee, booze, and microwaved meals. Beautiful views of the countryside. I’m on S9. Looking forward to S10! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I just discovered this show. I've watched British TV since I was in elementary school because of PBS here in US. I think her character reminds me a it of Colombo... Peter Falk's character was the same...no none sense; sharp, but pulled you in at first as if he was benign, and was low maintenance in his apparel. I love the way she interacts with EVERYONE and she has these moments where you see her slip away to keep her word (even if its unspoken) to someone. Just an all around good series. I do agree...why hasn't America understood this type of female lead. Rock on Vera!

this is one of the few programs i have watched more than once. i always seem to have missed something the first time around.
and no ms. blethyn, american women are not considered equals in anything. over a certain age we are demeaned, dismissed and overlooked, all because we no longer fit the american male standard of beauty and sexiness. doesn't matter how smart you are, a few pounds overweight, older than 60 and you basically are nothing. we can't even get the violence against women act passed. nor the equal pay law. until we have a woman president, we will always be second class citizens, expected to give way to men.

I love the way Brenda Blethyn plays Vera not only because she is a woman in a leed position, but I would absolutely love to have a friend like Vera in real life, not just because of her pure honesty, but when it comes to "fighting for" someone she thinks deserves it, she is like a bulldog and doesn't stop till the outcome is clear!! WE as a race need many more like Vera!

Brenda I adore you , this series is the only one I’m happy to watch over and over . The writing is perfection, your Vera is played to perfection , you are utterly and totally believable . You are the consummate actress . The storylines lead the viewer from one red herring to the next often without the expected result. Much of tv these days is rubbish , I hope Vera lives on for many years.

We like Vera, simply because the storylines are credible, and the acting is superb.
The backdrop of Northumberland and Tyne & Wear certainly has a magic to it, and unlike certain crime dramas over the years, Vera has stood the test of time.
One of those series that owning the complete boxset is a must.

Found this series by accident 2 years ago. Couldn't get enough of it!! What an amazing actor and truly a great bunch of characters. So well written. I absolutely love Vera's clothes. Seriously, where does one find those tights? And dresses? (We shall not bring up the fact that I fell head over heels in love with her Defender. My dream vehicle, but don't tell my 1997 Jeep!)

Love British crime shows so gritty, earthy and real . When you watch US crime shows everyone seems to be a lawyer, doctor , architect etc. No real believable people . It's all about guns ,car chases and explosions. And crappy story lines. The Scandinavian shows are good as well.

Oh Vera you're a joy! I'm about her age and would have loved to study criminology or something related. Vera is a strong smart woman, practical and real. I look forward to Saturday evening when I can watch her calling "pet, love, etc" to the "suspects" and then seeing her face when when she "gets her man or woman" at the end. The writer's of this series always deliver a plot that makes you think. Love it!
