- Building a Optical Tachometer for the Longmill CNC router to accurately know the speed of the routers spindle.
The concept can work on any rotation object so this build could be used for more then just a router, adjustments would just need to be made to the arduino code for speed ranges.
This build is based off of the instructions found here.

Wow, so impressed with how clean the whole build turned out. Great work!
Does dust cause a problem?
Not really. The only issue is if dust build up on the reflective tape on the spindle blocking the reflection. But I've only noticed that after cutting alot of MDF, but its easily wiped off.
How much was the approximate cost to build this?
I think the electronics were around $15-25. They are pretty cheap, you just have to look around to find them for a good price.
on my oled screen text is going outside
I had that issue also. There is a setting in one of the libraries that controls the font size. The default is too big and it needed to be set on size smaller, large->Med or Med->Small.
It was a long time ago though and I don't remember where this was. I think I found the information in the original instructions I link to in the description.
I'm having trouble finding the LED mount in the links above.
Sorry about that, it looks like the LED Mount head model didn't upload. I have fix the issue and the missing piece is there now. You'll just have to re-download the model.
@@DaveRigDesign wow, quick reply! Thank you so much for the design and video!
