They should have never cut this scene it was pretty cool scene between Berko and Rex Manning, they both deserved more scenes than they were given.
I disagree. It would have changed the flow of the movie by adding a pointless sub plot that goes nowhere.
It's fun to watch deleted scenes for movies but nine times out of ten they are good editing decisions.
Coyote Shivers wanted his role reduced because he was unhappy with the final product. I don't even think he was officially credited.
But I do like this scene as it kind of gives Rex Manning a reason for being a dick. He's disappointed and angry with himself for selling out
Nothing like cut out a really good scene. We didn't see enough of Berko in the movie and like one of the other posters stated this showed how human Rex really was and how stardom turned him into the person he was now.
I agree with both your points. It all depends, do you want Rex to have a human/sympathetic side or do you just want to hate him? Wanting this scene in the film all boils down to preference.
@@mattramos5822 I think the producers wanted to capture the Diva side of Rex Manning (asshole to the core).
@@mattramos5822yeah, because truly can’t have both of them in the same movie
I can see why they cut this scene out, but I wish they hadn't. It makes for a much tidier happy ending if Rex is only portrayed as a one-dimensional villain, but the way the movie was cut kind of makes his subplot feel incomplete. He never really gets his comeuppance and he never redeems himself; he just gets thrown out on his ass and we never see him again. Including this scene doesn't just humanize him, it also gives some closure to his storyline by making you think "Huh, I guess there was more to him than I thought."
But it also makes you feel sorry for him, and makes you like the other characters a little less for the way they mocked him from the moment he walked into the store, all of which tarnishes the happy ending a bit. And the thought that Rex might be a premonition of Berko's future... well, that's just depressing.
There is another scene where he shows up at the end and plays on the roof top with Berko, which kinda helps redeem him I think there was maybe one more scene with him but I m not sure apparently there is over 40 mins of scenes cut from the original
They should've added that in a mid credits scene
Anybody have the scene where Rex shows up at the end while the rooftop concert is going and he does a rock version of say no more. I promise this actually was filmed and I didn’t imagine it.
It USED to be on UA-cam...but it appears that it has been pulled after all these years. While THIS scene is the Catharsis of Rex Manning, the other one is the Redemption of Rex Manning. I always got the impression that he got a new lease on life after getting arrested on the roof with Berko and started a rebirth in his career with all that indie cred.
I do believe that scene is on the Fan Edit Remix edition DVD (deleted scenes).
Wow, why didn't they keep this? It at least humanize Rex a little bit more and at least more scenes of Berko.
Thanks for the upload! Where did you find it?
Maybe that's why they kept it out. To make Rex more of an unrelatable dick. They might've figured they needed more antagonists than the record store owner
Oh wow. This showed a different side of Rex.
WHY DID THEY CUT THIS?!?! Would have been perfect ......well.....almost perfect
Omg 18 years since I’ve seen this movie for the first time in my life it’s been my favorite movie since. But this is the first and I mean the very first time I didn’t completely hate Rex Manning. They should have never cut this out.
There's also a scene at the end where Berko and Gina have him join him playing an actually pretty good rock version of Say no more and they give him a guitar and get the sense its the 1st time he's liked himself in years and you actually like him even more too. Its on you tube somewhere too...or at least it used to be
We need the Tobey McGuire scene! I hope it comes to light someday
One of my fav movies, that was the first time I saw that clip. Thank you
Young vs old musician. Berko never found success either... They should have left this scene in the movie!
It's a very poignant scene. I wish this had stayed in. It's great imagery, too, the contrast of Rex and Berko. Rex's fashion/aesthetic is a decade or two before, and while he's walking, fading away, the look on Berko's face, "when will I be yesterday's news?" Is there a director's cut of this out there? Dear Google... Anyway, I like that this makes you feel sorry for Rex, a little. Makes him more complex. I also like that it's just two guys, as different as they are, dropping the genres, just chatting about making music, not all the B.S. that comes with the business.
Did burko work there or did he live there?
@@donnadelrey7419 no one EVER 'worked' in a record store,we just got paid for smokin pot out back.....
i totally get why this was cut. pacing, timing, and total movie's runtime. also, it's a little too subtle. Rex being self aware is nice, but his advice to Berko just doesn't translate. it's too few lines, but if any more lines about how he was just like Berko when he walked into the industry, and the scene gets a little ham-fisted. just 1 perfect "i wish..." line probs could've saved this scene...but as is, i lives on the editing room floor for a reason.
I’ve 100% seen this scene before and I only ever saw it on tape or TV.
They should have kept that scene in the movie
Berko's meant to be a sympathetic character. I really disliked him then and still do now, though, and not just because he's played by a stalkerish creep. For me, what really kills his likeability is the scene where he's talking alone with Deb, where he comes off like a narcissist, and it's implied he did something that could have further pushed her into ideation. He also doesn't seem to care as much about anything as the other characters, though that's due to underwriting and the large cast so not his fault.
When are they going to make a movie called ” The Rex Manning story”
Maybe we misjudged him
It was kind of closure of why rex was bitter
WHAT? NO APPLAUSE?
I honestly didn't think Rex was a villain. I guess having sex with Gina wasn't a good idea though.
This is gold.
One artist at the beginning of his career talking to one who is at the end, should of kept it in
