  • Five Things #AnimeTaughtMe About Writing: OP or n-o-p-e?
    1. What is OP?
    2. OP with restraint vs OP-magedon
    3. OP creates too great an imbalance in the power dynamic of the protagonist and antagonist. Both sides need strength but also weaknesses.
    4. Pop-up OP is unbelievable. It takes the reader out of the world unless there is a believable explanation within the world structure.
    5. Eventually things must balance out through consequences. Power has a cost.
What is your favorite OP side? Do you prefer the heroes or the villains to be the OP ones or are OP characters just an n-o-p-e for you? Leave your comments below.

OP characters used to be a huge NOPE for me. But then....How Not To Summon A Demon Lord and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, Tsukumichi, certain loveable characters from Naruto, and so many others hit. Those got me. Now I love some of them. I mean...Daddy Gojo....come on!
