AWESOME STEVE!! Like you, listened to the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album incessantly.....one of the reasons Im a piano player, is because of Elton John. I play this on piano....and many, many of his other songs. He's a musical genius. I'm going to have to attempt this on drums now.....you've inspired me!! Phenomenal playing! It'll probably take me a year to learn it on drums LOL
What a wonderful example and lesson in Dynamics and great "feel"... You are a very fine and talented drummer, my friend! You captured so many little nuances and intricacies of songs that escape so many percussionist whether they are highly skilled and trained or not. I truly think that you would be at home in just about any type of musical setting... From Jazz to classical to rock and even heavy metal. You've got great skills, my friend! It is a joy to come over to your page and get schooled. Keep it up, buddy!
Just started watching your videos! You are awesome! I am just starting out on the drums and would love to see a video on how to learn specific songs. I am playing by ear and also have looked at some drum tabs but would really like some help on how you learn all of the great music you are playing! Thanks Steve!
Thank you for your kind support. I am self-taught and play by ear so I never learned to read music. My method of learning songs is to just listen to them and copy what I hear. I developed my own method of writing down a chart to help understand the song structure (intro - verse - chorus - bridge - solo - chorus -ending). I've been playing for so long I've gotten good at just memorizing drum parts. My advice is don't do what I did (teach yourself). Find a good teacher. He/she will save you years of struggle and stop bad habits from taking root. Good luck with your drumming. I hope you have even half as much fun as I do. Drumming is one of the greatest things in my life!
Hey Steve...I’m sure you don’t take requests....but if I Had a wish...it would be Steve Winwood....Talking Back the Night....but thanks for your great videos.
Wow, really good! I was wondering how you get your music to drum to. Do you have music without the drums or just listen to the original track while playing? Thanks!
1000% beleive you, i got a kit last summer and started playing songs from 1979 and on, and after a play, it was 80-90% there.
Kick drum was nailed...nice work!!
very well done.....i love watching covers i learn from guys like you.....thanks
Always a pleasure watching you drum
Thank you!!!!
RIGHT flippin' ON !!
Not an easy song to do. Transitions and changes make it easy to mess up, but you nailed it !!
Thank you!

great job love watching you im learning so much
Thank you!!!! Just don't watch too closely...my covers have lots of clams (mistakes). :-)
Excellent without any practice!! Excellent with practice! The bass drum during the piano solo near the end was spot on. Most guys can't copy that.
Outstanding, love playing this one!
Amazing talent!!
The more I watch the better I like it! Your hi-hat has a really sweet sound too. You're really fun to watch!

Great! Sounds like Elton’s drummer Charlie Morgen. The snare intro is very cool.
Please, post more songs by Elton John....
did you get a new double bass pedal? or, do you just rarely use it?
I've had a double bass pedal for many, many years but I rarely use it.
it was a tasteful use. A lot of the time I think that too much double bass muddies up the rhythm
Thank you. I tend to rush my grooves using just a single pedal. The double pedal just makes it even worse, which is why I rarely use it.

I just play along with the original recordings. Thank you!
