It's basic logic no profits = no taxes being paid = no business = no long permit to stay you are just a tourist, not a biz owner anymore.

I am Vietnamese. Only these cases can be applied for permanent residence in Vietnam. Dont lose money without knowing the law to lawer or service company:
    1. Foreigners who have made contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland of Vietnam and are awarded medals or honorary titles by the Vietnamese government.
    2. Foreigners who are scientists or experts temporarily residing in Vietnam.
    3. Foreigners who are sponsored by their parents, spouses, or children who are Vietnamese citizens and are permanently residing in Vietnam.
    4. Stateless persons who have been temporarily residing in Vietnam since 2000.
+ Conditions for consideration for permanent residence:
    1. Foreigners specified in the above cases are considered for permanent residence if they have legal accommodation and a stable income to ensure their life in Vietnam.
    2. Foreigners specified as scientists or experts temporarily residing in Vietnam must be proposed by the Minister, Head of a ministerial-level agency, or a government agency that manages the state in that person's professional field.
    3. Foreigners sponsored by their father, mother, wife, husband or children who are Vietnamese citizens permanently residing in Vietnam and have temporarily resided in Vietnam continuously for 03 years or more.

I've been married to a VN national and have resided in the country 20 years, I'm still a Temporary Resident. In Vietnam, nothing is permanent. Pay your money and takes your chances.

Your wife must have her own legal residence, not her parents'. Ensure the minimum housing area conditions as prescribed by the Provincial People's Council but not less than 08 m2 of floor space/person.

Before, in Cambodia, if you wanted to stay a long time, you would get a business visa and renew it every year. Many got it even though they weren't in any kind of business including being a teacher. About eight years ago, they changed it so that you'd have to show some kind of business and pay taxes. They do offer a retirement visa now, which they did not have before. I lived there for nine years but left in 2017.

Let’s say if someone moves to Paraguay, & not too long after they decide they want to make it their home. Is there a fast track process for permanent residency in Paraguay? Or must one live on temporary residency for a certain time period until they’re eligible for it?

The key takeaway is that his lawyer didn't tell him the full story. His lawyer reassured him that his residency permit is renewable, even under the circumstances of him not generating much volume. He was misled.

Given the dynamics of Southeast Asia's real estate markets, including the crazy amount of empty units in Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines, you're much better off renting there. Many properties may not appreciate enough to keep up with inflation.

I an Vietnamese. The problem here is that you do not understand the law of Vietnam and leave everything to the lawyer, do not find the right company or a real/ good lawyer... and the Vietnamese government did not do anything wrong... the mistake is that you did not follow the law because you trusted the lawyer too much. If you marry a Vietnamese woman, after 3 years, your wife will sponsor you to do the procedures to become a permanent resident. Please should study carefully about the country's law, legal regulations before coming to any countries .... You can do yourself, no need service company or lawyer... Dont blame our government if you did not know anything directly and clearly

Vietnam currently does not issue a PRC (10 years) for foreigners married to Vietnamese. The maximum duration is currently a 3 year TRC for all marriage based requests. In the past it was possible to request permanent residence after 3 years of marriage and living in Vietnam ( to a 10 year PRC), however this option has been discontinued until further notice, The only way for a foreigner to apply for permanent residence who is married to a Vietnamese, is to apply for Vietnamese citizenship, which also carries various restrictions. Greetings from Sài Gòn.

Southeast Asia is one of the most popular destinations for Westerners who come as digital nomads, especially in Chiang Mai and Bali. The government should tax these digital nomads, as they don't pay taxes and contribute little to the GDP. The Malaysian government recently introduced a digital nomad visa with very low requirements, which is ridiculous and should be revoked immediately.
