Thanks for your videos. I'm a 64-year-old male. Started Martial Arts training from the age of 13. I've trained in Karate, Judo, Indonesian Silat, 40 years of Qigong, some Wing Chun, and currently training Sun Lutang's system of Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua in China. I'll be going through the discipleship ceremony later this month. I'm training towards completing all three systems in order to become a lineage holder. I've also met with Sun Lutang's granddaughter and great granddaughter in recent months.
Amazing and Bless so awesome to accomplish so much especially Sun Lu Tang’s System👍 Holding Xing Yi stance or Chi Ball stance for 1.5 to 2 hours have you reached that pinnacle? Again Bless to ALL you have Mastered👍
So cool! I'm also living in China, I'm in Guangzhou and Foshan. Can I add your wechat? lol... I'm practicing Qigong every day and practicing on my wooden dummy, however i'm just learning from UA-cam and its very difficult to follow a screen, because I keep mixing up left and right side movements. On weekends I practice baji quan in the city. I'm having trouble finding a good teacher for exactly what i'm looking for though. Do you think you can help me find some resources?
@@patnmelpharr8481 Thank you for your message. So far I've finished learning the Taiji system. However, mastering it will take some more years. I've also completed the 8 different hand movements for circle walk in Bagua and the five elements of Xingyi Quan. I'm getting better at maintaining the Xingyi stance of "San Ti Shi," but could use more refinement, I'm sure. Over the years, I've managed to practice Zhang Zhuang or the Qi Ball stance for 30-60 minutes. Never more than that.
This was fascinating! I have practiced Wing Chun and Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do for 25 years, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for 15, and Atienza Kali at a beginner level. Also some Muay Thai and I have been beginning Judo. I have also learned some Chi Kung exercises. As I have gotten older, mediation and internal martial arts have really begun to interest me. I have just started learning Tai Chi and have definitely noticed the therapeutic & rejuvenative properties of it. Amazing that Sun Lu Tang mastered all 3 internal arts though! A true gung fu master & someone to admire & look up to!
To refine this answer, as Shaolin contains both Kung Fu, Qigong and Zen, the pinnacle is to realise your own Buddha-nature and become a fully enlightened being. Wudang has a similar path with the goal to become a Daoist Immortal which Zhang San Feng achieved.
The histroy in this video is completely off. The term "internal martial arts" first appeared in Huang Zongxi's 1669 Epitaph for Wang Zhengnan. Theclassification of the internal martial arts with the indigenous Chinese Daoism and of the external martial arts with the foreign Buddhism of Shaolin-and the Manchu Qing Dynasty to which Huang Zongxi was opposed-was an act of political defiance rather than one of technical classification. Later Sun Lutang invented his own definition of internal. Xingyi was not created by Yue Fei, it was Ji Jike. Baguazhang was not created by Dong Haichuan, but used to be called Bapanzhang and was not based on the Yijing originally. The circle walking was also added later by Cheng Tinghua Tai chi was not created by the mythological figure Zhang Sanfeng, but by Chen Wangting in Chen Villiage. The myth of Zhang Sanfeng was created by the cosplayers at Wudang because they have no history of their own
In his steps, I have practiced and taught Tai Chi Chuan, Hsing-I Chuan and Pa Kwa Chang for 55 years. Deeply influenced by Sun Lu Tang and Gia Fu Feng, I trained with the families of the founders. Yes, Wu De is fundamental for the Nei Chia martial artist. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Byron. Another excellent martial arts video as usual! As many of your viewers I am also a student and lineage holder of the Three Treasures. Knowing their teacher considers himself to be not much more than an older student, some of my own students presented Sun's book on Pa Kua Ch'ang for my consideration and erudition. And I was thrilled and told them as much. However, after two years I came to the conclusion that it is not an easy book to understand. As you must know most everything in it is couched in terms only a scholar of the I-Ching would recognize, and so, at this time I have had to set this work aside until some future date when I might glean a key to its understanding. However I feel confident that Sun's book on Hsing Yi Ch'uan will be much easier to grasp. Any suggestions? BTW. I had forgotten about Sun's early attempt to flee this mortal coil, his rescue, and subsequent acceptance the other teachers in our own lineage. The last part of his life, spending the years in Taoist meditation and presumably obtaining enlightenment was also unknown to me. It is heartwarming to know that other kung-fu men have used the boxing Way to find the inner path to the Wuji. All the same in contemporary times those of us who are doing so must be some sort of anomaly. To my brethren, those pilgrims on this path, let me say, Do not be discouraged. Keep a clear and focused intention in your training and be sincere in your practices. Do not overlook Jam Jhong and seated meditation. The eight limbs of yoga has certainly deepened my understanding and progress. Thanks again. Keep practice, train for life. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association
Ba gua Zhang is the child of 12 Ermei Zhang ( A Daoist system very similar to Ba Gua.) Ther exists on Ermei Mountain a Daoist Temple dedicated to 12 Ermei Zhang. Sergio Laderola discovered this during his search for the roots of Wing Chun, when he traveled near Yong Chun Village at Ermei Mountain.
Been trying be get to this clip for a few weeks now. Sun LuTang' s creation of Sun Tai Chi Chuan/Sun Tai Gek Kuen was quite an accomplishment. Sun Shifu/Sifu system while very powerful isn't as popular as Yang style Tai Chi/Tai Gek. Here in the Nation's Capital of Washington DC, their was a Sun Style practitioner teacher not far from Capitol Hill. The school unfortunately closed it's doors within about 2 years. From the best of my knowledge their is a practitioner of Sun Tai Chi/Tai Gek named Saleem Alamudeen, who runs Lam Tang Kung Fu Academy located in Lexington, South Carolina. His lineage cones from his late Master, Kwong Wing Lam Sifu, who himself learned the system from the daughter of Sun LuTang , GM Sun Jianyun.
Yang chengfu beat him in friendly contest…they were friends…fuzhensong was equal at least to Yang…in friendly pushhands he scored on him and Yang complained it was because he used his bagua footwork.
Credit shifu. Great video on Sun Lu Tang history. You showed a clip!of a movie about Xin Yi Quan. Can you tell me the name of that film? It looks like a really good one.
It was heartbreaking to witness how contemporary martial arts (MMA) were destroying these Chinese kung-fu masters. Additionally, a lot of them are merely acting like masters, which is why modern fighters are testing them as imposters.

Well made video for mass audience having only passing curiosity about 'mysterious' Eastern Martial Arts. Though aside from certain entertainment value has little to offer, being a typical mix of some facts, common media myths, unverified information spiced up by not related to the subject clips from movies, etc. That even includes history of Sun Lu Tang life itself, not to mention any attempt to highlight true reasons why he even studied three arts and what is the nature of the Tai Chi style he created or what/why he taught later in his life. Hopefully, it will not be taken as more than that. Sun Lu Tang indeed was a prominent master and interesting person but hardly the one making 'greatest contribution' to the Chinese Martial Arts, clearly not reaching the heights of his teachers in either of three arts. And while Sun style is a well known Tai Chi style in China and is considered one of 5 Tai Chi jewels (as has quite distinct from other styles features, being in essence a mix of Wu style and Hsing Yi), its the least popular, as well.
actually there are a few more internal styles but they are not as popular shaolin has a few but they dont demonstrate etc but xingyi ba is similar to xingyi quan . but the most popular style otger then the three is dachenquan created by wang xianzai who was the nephew of Guo yu shen have you heard of it ?

Well…good linguistics. When in lived China…for a long time in Shanghai…there were only two people about,, who had the real thing…weight lifting, jogging, I would suggest for most people….but the real thing is rarely ever taught and once its developed..takes about 2 years….the weight lifters and joggers cant really touch you…after that, they can be thrown fairly easy. Being fast with your hands is another animal ….or skill to be added…but also starts to come if you add that as a different training element to the core method…. 形意,太极,八卦,xingyi, taiji, bagua all have the same core method in the beginning…but there are other variants on this method that can be very strenuous and challenging. Never seen anyone in youtube land ever teach it. Not martial man, rasmus, etc, their good….but its not the core method of internal fighting styles. Rasmus comes close

I follow his philosophy since childhood; a great man.
From the best of my knowledge their is a practitioner of Sun Tai Chi/Tai Gek named Saleem Alamudeen, who runs
Lam Tang Kung Fu Academy located in Lexington, South Carolina. His lineage cones from his late Master, Kwong Wing Lam Sifu, who himself learned the system from the daughter of Sun LuTang , GM Sun Jianyun.
Let's make Sun a movie since Ip Man has ended.
I second this! It's appalling to me that this hasn't ever come up
Sun Lutang is the strongest martial artist in China
Yang chengfu beat him in friendly contest…they were friends…fuzhensong was equal at least to Yang…in friendly pushhands he scored on him and Yang complained it was because he used his bagua footwork.
We dont know who the best was….some guys were not even known…starvation, war…killed many great artists

Wang Zhuang Hongs Water Taiji also has all three styles in it.

Awesome video man,can you do a video on the lineage of fu jow pai please 😊
Credit shifu. Great video on Sun Lu Tang history. You showed a clip!of a movie about Xin Yi Quan. Can you tell me the name of that film? It looks like a really good one.
All names should be in the bottom left corner, unless we missed one
Amazing thanks for that help and support for the smart course on point Buda AM the sun dragon will is very important Levels
May you please do a story of Chiyou?
That is a great idea for a future video!
@learnchinesenow hope it will be soon. 😁
It was heartbreaking to witness how contemporary martial arts (MMA) were destroying these Chinese kung-fu masters. Additionally, a lot of them are merely acting like masters, which is why modern fighters are testing them as imposters.
What if you do External & Internal Kung Fu
Great! Thanks!

The circle walking was also added later by Cheng Tinghua
Tai chi was *not* created by the mythological figure Zhang Sanfeng, but by Chen Wangting in Chen Villiage. The myth of Zhang Sanfeng was created by the cosplayers at Wudang because they have no history of their own
How do you know?
@@learnchinesenow Henning, Stanley (Autumn-Winter 1994). "Ignorance, Legend and Taijiquan" (PDF). Journal of the Chenstyle Taijiquan Research Association of Hawaii.
Xingyi origin by Hai Yang, renowned Xingyi master living in Canada, grandfather was a student of Xue Dian, and corresponded with students of Li Cunyi, Zhang Zhaodong who also taught him Baguazhang and was technically a student of Dong Haichuan, but learned from Cheng Tinghua because Dong was too old.
-Correspondence with linage holding students in short.
- Tai chi, lack of historical evidence from wudang and Sanfeng, strong evidence from chen village.
Correspondence with Chen Fake's lineage.

And while Sun style is a well known Tai Chi style in China and is considered one of 5 Tai Chi jewels (as has quite distinct from other styles features, being in essence a mix of Wu style and Hsing Yi), its the least popular, as well.
well said
was there any movies about him since hes such a prominent figure in martial arts?
Good share, thanks
actually there are a few more internal styles but they are not as popular shaolin has a few but they dont demonstrate etc but xingyi ba is similar to xingyi quan . but the most popular style otger then the three is dachenquan created by wang xianzai who was the nephew of Guo yu shen have you heard of it ?
Thank you, LCN, for an excellent video on Sun Lutan. There must be more tales of his exploits(facts or fiction) on this legendary man. I could listen to this( many others as well) all day long. ✌🏼 & 🫸
happy early Christmas i am going to learn sanda/sanshou
Thankful
I want all of you to check out Wu Gulun's shaolin boxing, & youll see where taichi boxing comes from.
The Grand Master of the oldest and original pre-form of 'Tai Chi' is in Vancouver BC Canada.
I mean the old secret royal style that historically was only taught to the royal family of china.
Can you name him?
Just be careful on that shen yun performing art because it's connected to falun gong. Good video as usual
It's not.
He could have never kept up with the horse running after it...
Awesome!
Was the name Sun Wukong inspired by Sun Lutang?
Loved it. ❤😂😢😮😅😊

Hyu yuan jia master of all time
That is his daughter not his grandaughter doing Sun taijiquan.
That's not correct. The lady featured in the video is Sun Shurong, daughter of Sun Cunzhou, this one being Sun Lutang's son.
So yes, she is Sun's grandaughter.
Maybe you take her for Sun Jianyun mistakenly.
I got that from the Sun style official website, it says it is Sun Shurong (granddaughter)
