      I have never been cage diving with sharks before,and i live in south africa but it is a big bucketlist item for me because i live sharks and their nature of doing things,but i have seen enough movies to know that i should go to someone with a good reputation and save cages.

    • @MJLeger-yj1ww
      @MJLeger-yj1ww 5 років тому +1

      Agreed! Would you walk alone in a jungle in India and NOT expect to be attacked by a hungry tiger? Same principle. (There was a time in India when tigers were a big problem because they LEARNED that people working in their crops were an easy prey, many were killed off and have since become more scarce.)
      Sharks are learning the same thing in the ocean and we are teaching them. There is little difference, except sharks really do NOT like the taste of humans and they are not their natural prey, but they ARE opportunistic feeders and WILL test-bite something so see if they want to eat it. Also, they do not want to be injured by prey (seals and sea lions have sharp teeth and are defensive fighters) so they will bit, shake their head to bite off a chunk, then leave the seal to bleed out so it won't attack them, they they go in to eat it.
      Sharks who are inexperienced hunters, sharks who are old or ill or injured, WILL try to get easier prey and there are times when humans get in the way. Sharks prefer oily, fatty blubbery prey for the nutrition they need, like the pinnipeds (seals) they seek, and they will also eat smaller fish if they can catch them.

      Meaty... the cage is not harmless from the shark's perspective - it is in fact, an item of interest. Due to the chemical reaction metals have with water (particularly salt water) tiny electrical currents are active around the surface of the cage (RedOx reaction - Reduction/oxidisation) which the shark can detect through an organ called the ampullae of lorenzini. These currents are very similar to those produced by other living organisms so the shark is lured in to investigate the cage as a potential source of food. The shark is doing exactly what million of years of evolution (400 million, in fact) has programmed it to do.

      @Matt Eliason .. They had a policy that you could go back again for free if you see no sharks. A brochure in Invercargill that the Shark Experience put out said there was a 99% chance of seeing a Great White. That, I reckon is a gross exaggeration.
      So many tourists come from overseas, can only afford the time to go out once before they have to leave and see nothing.
      I'm an abalone (paua) diver also off the South Coast of New Zealands North Island. At a good guess I can say that the most common way divers die out there is drowning. And that will always be the case.
      We dive at our own risk, from drowning or becoming a sea food snack for a hungry creature.

    • @TheShodan92
      @TheShodan92 5 років тому

      Paua divers down there are having a whinge about the Shark Experience business attracting them closer to shore, yet while we were out there fishing boats were on their way back to port, gutting and beheading their catch and tossing the entrails into the water.

    Cage diving should be banned

    I’ve always wondered why they have openings in the cage large enough for sharks to squeeze through.

    When this diver says he's having nightmares from the experience, first thing I thought.. he's gonna sue the shit out of the company, and for good reason

      Probably signed a waiver. So dont think he'll be getting much out of it.

    This is about the 50 th video I have seen where a great white has made it into one of these cages. I guess nobody does any research on these things before going one of these dives. I would expect this to happen if I went on one.
