Really enjoy your style of plumbing. I qualified as a plumber around 17 years ago and spent some time doing domestic plumbing after a apprenticeship of commercial plumbing and roofing. It used to keep me awake at night worrying about leaks to the point where I basically changed career as I couldn't handle the worry and stress! Despite never having any major disasters.Even small little mistakes dented my confidence. Like you say it's how you deal with it. I still do a bit of plumbing now on the side but for friends and family. Who knows, I may even go back to it properly one day.
Nice to see honesty on the video with regards the pipe blowing off. Could have not filmed it at all 👍👍 I had one on a toilet change I did the other week on a mobile home. Plastic pipe everywhere. Cost me an hour and a half of my time. Customer was very happy with the way I delt with it 👍👍👍
I was called back a few week ago to a speed fit that had either failed ( stain on ceiling a weep from the fitting ) or I hadn’t pushed in far enough when I did the job . Had to remove toilet to get to fitting under the floor , had to cut a 6 inch hole in floor to get to it , luckily it was accessible . I’d plied and Karndeaned the floor too , so was glad it was an easy fix . I always check flexis on jobs as a matter of course , and replace any that show signs of rust . Love the end of the video . How sweet to go all that way for your grandson 👍
I moved 7 radiators across room walls 2 months ago and I connected with plastic pushfit grey ones. One of the joint connecting the copper rad tail to the plastic pipe blew off on the side of the plastic, the metal insert got stuck in the fitting, but instinctively, it came to my mind to push it back in. I hope the best. They haven't used the ch yet since then because of the hot weather. 4 years of plumbing in London, it has been the very first time for me. I filled up the ch system, bled the rads, turn the stat on and as soon it got hot, boom. Maybe the grab ring was faulty. I suggest to put some plumbing silicone grease on pipe and fitting to make sure it is fully in.
Used plastic for over 20 years no problems except one popped the same it wasnt pushed in far enough but took over 2 years to pop otherwise easy to use apart from bulky joints copper is still king though
I am a fan of JG, got rid of all copper pipes for now all JG fitted, used for 10+ years, no problem at all, no rusty water and/or smell thereafter, the key is to tighten up the thread locks at both ends after being pushed in, the connectors are bulky indeed.
With jg doesn't matter if you don't tighten the locks, it's purely for if the collar is up against something or if it's accesable by those who might fiddle
Love your videos mate. Just finished my apprenticeship and trying to go out on my own and your videos show what it is really like for an everyday plumber. Really enjoy it thanks.
This actually happened to me last night, a plastic fitting popped out between my boiler and a hot tap, thanks to plumbing videos like these, I knew to open the hot tap and it allowed me stick the fitting back in, seems the fitting was left loose when I had the tap installed! But luckily I heard the pop and there was only a bit of mopping up!
I love plastic fittings. They're brilliant in the places you can't get spanners in or solder. Just make sure if its plastic pipe they're going on. To use the super seal sleeves in the pipe. No probs.
When you use plastic fittings do you always finish by using a ‘collet clip’; meant to stop accidental removal but I’ve always used them & have never had a fitting pop. I generally use JG & they are easy to source; don’t know if Hep2O have them; but they’ve worked for me.
Once did a job exactly the same as this at a police officer’s home. He and his family went out just after breakfast and returned late afternoon to find the whole of the ground floor floating out of the front door when he opened up. It even found it’s way into the gas hob burners. Exactly same problem of stainless steel braiding failing and rubber hose bursting.
Good content as per bud👍🏻 I like your transparency regarding the plastic pipe and like you said I’ve seen soldered joints fail too. I had a mate who decided to plumb his bathroom in Hep, called me for advice which I duly gave, he pressured up and phoned in a panic saying the joints had all failed, I asked how, had he pushed fittings home properly and what inserts he had used? “Inserts what inserts” was the reply!😂
Hi, looks like the original pipe and fitting failed because the pipe and joint were in tension, specifically BENT! which caused the T joint to be in tension and with the water pressure eventually POP. You got around the problem by adding an extra bend fitting and a bit of pipe which should sort it for good. Unless the pipes and joints with Speedfit are square on I wouldnt trust these fittings to function properly where the flexi pipe is bent going into them!
Some cheap flexis are only rated to 3 bar! So watch out for that. Once the metal is splitting it’s only a matter of time before the rubber protrudes and then ruptures, as the braiding holds the rubber in. That pipe can’t of being in right. It’s got the best grab ring going. Guess that’s why it got extended. You should contact polyplumb and get them to tell you about theirs flexis compared to cheap ones ect. Would be interesting.
Used to have the same problem getting gas tap handles off sometimes ,thin rag around the base of the tap and then an progressive even pull usually sorted it .
HI Mark, grandsons keep you young. I can hardly say "no" to mine - happy to spoil him but but he ain't spoiled!! Paddling pools make memories. Nice video btw.
Having worked for leading push fit manufacturer in the past I would not fit any of the push fit systems that are available on the market ,the quality of the polymer is not much better than bucket plastic, polybutylene is banned in most countries other than the UK due to it not able to cope with concentrations of chlorine in water, this is why it must not be used on secondary circulating hot water systems, if I find it in a job I generally remove it if practical, I would always use an MLCP system if I needed a flexible pipe system.
I bought one of those nerrad tapex kits cus you and PB reccomend them, only had it 2-3 weeks and its saved me twice already! Brilliant bit of kit if your doing taps regularly.
My 2 pence looks like that Flexi Friday had been over tightened or maybe just ingress of water from the top of basin down side of tut tap.. Was just wondering why the mesh corrodes but suppose it's 1 hydrogen 2 oxygen
Tbf that elbow should have been on from the start looking at how much tension was on the connection seeing as the pipes were side by side and the T’d section was running next to the black conduit causing more stress. Easy to say in hind sight, nobody does anything to cause issues for themselves down the line and the fact you fixed it and put it in here, fair play to ya!
Good honest video has always, has happened to me too , lucky it started to leak before the ceiling was plastered. Those fittings don’t like to be under any sort of strain. 😁👍🏻
We have had those plastic pipes pop exactly the same multiple times on a hot water system put in by a company for a new build 14 years ago now. They don't appear to like secondary return systems with high demand. Which the last time it went we were asked to replace the original company's work as it went on the 28mm main trunk tee to one floor, took out the kitchen units/ceiling/floor, the boiler in the garage via the ductwork running between the kitchen and garage an the hanging tiles outside the building as it drained a 500L hot water cylinder, the 500L accumulator and the cold main at 2am. £50k damage. Wouldn't recommend anyone use those particular Grey plastic pipes for secondary systems now.
@@MJTiffPlumbing I just have very little faith in their product after so many issues with it, and on that particular site it started with final legs first, then the smaller hot water return pipes until finally the 28mm went. There's little you can do if after pointing out to a customer it's likely a catastrophic failure will happen they decide to just wait and see.
Bristan kitchen tap by any chance mark 😆😆 Shame about the fitting going pop but it happens to the best of us and has happened to me in the past Sometimes the pipe feels like it's in but really it just needs a bit more of a push, that's why we mark the pipe with a pen then gently twist it as it goes in the fitting. Some good jobs bud. Cheers

Another great video im just curious mark on what you charged the customers to change them flexis for such a quick and small job and the other where the pipe had blown off the fitting did you foot the cost for that or did you still charge . I'm a plumber in Manchester and I find it so hard to price jobs like that especially with the flexi pipe without being cheeky also the nerred tap kit it looks a good kit put think it's a bit over priced for what it is . Anyway great video Mark keep up the good work love your videos and content 👍
Thanks Wayne….. I thought the same about the tap kit until I started using it and it’s paid for itsself 10 times over…. Wouldn’t be without it now. Flexi swap I charged £50 all in… it’s your time they are paying for.
I'm near Manchester Wayne, wouldve charged £60 for flexi job, or probably £50 if on my way home. Difficult to charge for a fitting blown off that was fitted by you! Happened to me once it was a polypipe one and had no metal grab ring inside (I should've realised) but it didn't blow off for 2 years! I think customer happy if you go straight away and fix it, most wont pursue you for damage if its minor.
@@juliestreet8688 its little jobs like that I find so difficult without being cheeky I know they pay for our time and that it's such a small and very quick job I'm in bury Manchester myself
@@wayneholden6581 don't worry You will work it out as you go along. Nobody wants to pay for a plumber, if they pull their face at 80 they're still going to pull it at 40. When they're in the checkout at Aldi the girl doesn't look in the trolley and say "oh just give us 40 quid" 😂😂😂

I did a bathroom for a friend, changed everything around apart from the toilet and the T came loose and he cut hole in ceiling and went to push back together and it just vame out and he got soacked. I then called around at 1130pm and fixed it. Found out about 4 weeks later he was blaming me for the leak. Let alone I won't be doing him a favour again. I did the bathroom for £500 for him. Don't like asking but what's the ball park for the likes of those flexi changes etc.
hi m8 hope your well how did you go at daves job did you charge him or do you offer some sort of guarantee with your work etc [ i know its not your fault ]
I use plastic with no problems with jg but all plastic i have been called out to repair as well as a friend who gutted a whole property has been that brand so i won't use it and you have just bolstered my opinion. The question is did you give them a bill? Some would, i wouldn't
Joys of plumbing dealt with it well mate and atleast a shitty ceiling in a garage or whatever it was. As the Years pass HGV driving appeals to me more and more lol 😂 How long you plan to keep plumbing bud random question ?
I always, throw away flexi conns a disater waiting to happen There are too many cheap versions on the market ,why if you fit oil boilers do you change flexi hoses every 5 yr yet mains pressur taps no one bothers.

I just get my phone out and "calculate" the bill then I say "it's 81.27," and get my card reader out! When they're in the checkout at Aldi the girl doesn't look in the trolley and say "oh just give us 40 quid" 😂😂😂
Good jobs fella, who pays for the popped pipe? Always tricky conversations to have. My guess is that it was free for a valued customer.
Yer just got it sorted for them…. Great customers.
I find them tap sets a wait of time ,9 out of 10 times they just dont fit quite right
Interesting……That’s the first time I’ve heard someone say they are no good…. I’ve never had an issue and if it wasn’t for them some jobs I wouldn’t of got done to be honest…
Looks like it popped because it was under stress due to the angle of the pipe
Could of been anything to be honest, plenty of room and slack on the pipes but something was a miss…. At least it’s all sorted👍🏼
Mark.. You're a genius mate in the plumbing world, good old fashioned plumbing love your videos bud 👍
Thankyou mate…. Much appreciated 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼
Oh no ! Not Davids again :)🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not that David 🤣🤣🤣
Cant beat Neerad tap kit worth every single penny good video again buddy 👍
Yep…. One of the best tools I’ve purchased
Did u charge the customer for the burst plastic pipe as you recently done up the property
No, just sorted it…. Over a year since however it was a straight forward fix
@@MJTiffPlumbing thanks for the response can you do a video on the accounts side of the business tax man etc what's allowed etc
No inserts or maybe a threaded fitting
Inserts were in buddy…. Just one of those things I think.
Haha at 20:24 I seen the pools and said bet he's after that. Lol.
You was right then mate….. was after the pool😉😉
Swap then 2 flexis was £50 all in….. 👍🏼👍🏼
If you got a few of them a week it all adds up. 👍👍 Great videos mate might try those drinks do they deliver to Northern Ireland
hi m8 hope your well how did you go at daves job did you charge him or do you offer some sort of guarantee with your work etc [ i know its not your fault ]
Didn’t charge him for this…. Sorted it easy enough👍🏼👍🏼
give it 30 40 years when rubber o ring fails,,,, we proper plumbers will be wiping lead joints again,,lol
Now that’s an art….. I think I did it at college 25years ago…… and never done it since
Or you can be one of those plumbers who never had a leak 😂
They lie 🤣
We all know them type of plumbers…🤣🤣
We’ve all had leaks…. If you ain’t your fibbing
Would u off charged for that repair..?
No buddy….
Why not ask Nerrad if they'll do a small(?) discount for your subscribers for a kit?
Watch this space mate….. 😉
👍
👍🏼🙏🏼
I use plastic with no problems with jg but all plastic i have been called out to repair as well as a friend who gutted a whole property has been that brand so i won't use it and you have just bolstered my opinion.
The question is did you give them a bill?
Some would, i wouldn't
No bill from me on this one….. it’s all about looking after your customers😉

@@MJTiffPlumbing you too 👍🤓👍
Joys of plumbing dealt with it well mate and atleast a shitty ceiling in a garage or whatever it was.
As the Years pass HGV driving appeals to me more and more lol 😂
How long you plan to keep plumbing bud random question ?
It’s how you deal with it that counts mate.
As for how long… to be honest it’s all I know so will keep going with it, it’s done me ok so far😉👍🏼👍🏼
I always, throw away flexi conns a disater waiting to happen There are too many cheap versions on the market ,why if you fit oil boilers do you change flexi hoses every 5 yr yet mains pressur taps no one bothers.
I’ve seen a few in this state…. Just a case of keeping an eye on them. 👍🏼👍🏼
Nothing wrong with John guest fittings. Vs water pressure. So if we can all stop talking absolute shite that would be good
All plastic Pipework and fittings are perfectly usable….. issues can happen with any sort of Pipework fitted into properties…. Nothing in life is 100%….
Agree JG stuff is spot on, as is polyplumb/Polypipe/ hep etc etc 👍🏼👍🏼
Haven’t seen anyone “talking shite” to be fair… just discussing it👍🏼
TAPEX KIT IS NOT USEABLE EXEPT FOR MONOBLOCK WHB OR SINK
