Today’s episode could be titled, “Hello Newman” because the internationally loved actor, Wayne Knight visits Really, no Really to talk about his iconic roles... including Seinfeld’s scheming Postman Newman, and Jurassic Park's techno-wiz Dennis Nedry.
In this episode, Jason and Peter get Wayne to discuss what it’s like to get cast in projects based on his weight, being held hostage on the set of Oliver Stone’s JFK, and his bizarre audition with the director of Basic Instinct - Really, no Really!
In addition to the credits listed above, Wayne has appeared on Broadway in the plays Gemini, Mastergate, Art and Sweet Charity plus the movies… Dirty Dancing, Born on the 4th of July, Dead Again, JFK, Space Jam, For Richer or Poorer, Rat Race - and the list goes on!
He also voiced the villainous toy collector Al McWhiggin in Toy Story 2, plus characters in Tarzan, Kung Fu Panda, Harley Quinn and many other animated projects.

Wayne Knight as Newman is one reason why Seinfeld is so fantastic.
And the amazing thing is he was in 44 out of 180 Seinfeld episodes, but it feels like he was in so many more. Sort of like Uncle Arthur on Bewitched; Paul Lynde was so great in that role, but really only appeared a handful of times as that character.
@@martyrobinson4474 Yes, and he has a Minifigure in the Seinfeld-LEGO-Set with the four maincharaters. He is a popculture icon.
Agreed
Hello, Newman. Iconic statement.
One of many.
Newman did not show up often, but each time he did, it was a treat
The solar eclipse of Seinfeld in more ways than one, especially if you use the Superman allegory
Right! If he'd been on every single episode it would have been too much. He was great because he was a bit over the top, and they used him sparingly. He was always fun when he was on screen.
"OooH the humanity"
he was in 46 episodes of 180, that's about 20%
Wayne is a total class act. I met him and his son (I think) in a Whole Foods in Dallas about 10 years ago, got his autograph, he was genuinely happy to give it and even did a Newman-style giggle while we talked. One of my life’s favorite moments ❤
Whole Foods? Vile weeds!
@@smithmeister HA HA NICE! 🤣
He seems just a genuine nice guy
One of the biggest attribute to the success of the Seinfeld is THE Cast. I can't think anybody else other than Wayne Night as Newman. The cast was so perfect.
Agree.Planets and moons alligned
Nope. Just Jerry not allowing any nonsense interference from suits who dont have a clue.
He was really funny as Don in 3rd Rock From the Sun.
Wayne wasn't the first choice tho
@@SVW1976didn't they make them add female representation?
When he ate the broccoli...vile weed...quick...some honey mustard. Best scene
I still say vile weed, haha! My wife and daughters love broccoli.
Newman loved that jambalaya tho 😂
My favorite Newman scene was the interrogation of Jerry at the Post Office.
"Pretty hot under these lights ehh Seinfeld?"
I’m actually pretty comfortable
that particular scene, is a parody of Basic Instinct. Also Newman interrogated Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct
'Not so fast, pretty boy!!'
@@andrewbarna2002 *eyes Jerry's root beer* Can have a sip?
I love Jason Alexander and Al Pacino's stunt double!
It's Pacinos kid.
damm, pacino must had been 10 years old when his son was born
@@oui2611 fool, Pacino is like 98 years old.
😂😂😂😂i thought it was Pacino😂😂
He is actually not lol
“George has opened a lot of doors, George has closed a lot of doors.
A George divided against itself, cannot stand.” 😂😂
George is gettin' upset. You gotta keep your worlds apart.
Your killing independent George!
YOU COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE WORLDS THEORY ON YOUR OWN??
I could’ve watched another 4 hours of this interview. What a fantastic memory Wayne has
Well, play it back in show motion then.
Seinfeld, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Jurassic Park, Basic Instinct, Toy Story 2. What a resume.
And JFK
He also was a repair man in Cheaper by the Dozen
@@ConservativeCoinCollector Also the suit in My Favourite Martian
Space Jam
He also played the neighbor Rick in the sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
Oh the Humanity, was probably one of funniest Neumann lines ever
We need a comedy series with Wayne and Jason.
A private detective duo series 😅
@@troystrains4735 That is a great idea for a show for them!!!
It's called seinfeld
Wayne Knight is funnier in real life than any of his characters. what a guy!
The more I hear from Wayne Knight the more fascinating he becomes. Great podcast. Thank you, gentlemen.
Practically everyone that went to school with Wayne Knight new he was destined for greatness. Intellect, personality and talent out the wazoo, and I have been a fan of his from then and since.
Of course Bartow county, what else for inspiration !
The #1 supporting cast member by far is Wayne Knight!
Nothing people say can accuretly express how good Wayne Knight was as Newman......He is the 5th member of Seinfeld
Newman always the highlight of a Seinfeld ep. Even if if I've got re-runs going in the background, I always come-a-runnin' to watch when Newman appears.
That’s gold, Jason. Gold!
Rold Gold? You see, because Jason used to do commercials for Rold Gold pretzels. I don't know if they made him thirsty.
@@mikeoxstiff THESE PRETZELS ARE MAKING ME THIRSTY!! 😅
Love the chemistry between Wayne and Kristen Johnston
The man knows how to tell a story! Awesome!
The man makes a pretty strong bird.
35:50 is my all-time favorite Newman bit.
“Because the mail never stops…”
the court scene with kramer was hilarious....he could never become a banker lol lol
"Rain or shine!" Its the first one
Wayne Knight is Wayne Knight. Unparalleled!♥️
Hearing these two voices together after all these years…. So nostalgic and beautiful
That was genuinely refreshing!
No BS, no politics - just fun times going down memory lane.
More of this, please!
i loved Wayne Knight in 3rd rock from the sun
Love Wayne Knight..good to see him
I could have listened to 2 more hours of this. Wayne has great stories
Wayne Knight is incredible
Never saw Jason Alexander laugh so much. What a fun episode, thanks!
I love Waynes laugh. such a good funny guy
That’s his genuine laugh. I met him at a Whole Foods in Dallas once. Such a happy man, the secret: Newman’s laugh is Wayne’s laugh! Such a cool guy. 😊
Wayne is looking great! Loved him in everything especially Seinfeld and Third Rock From The Sun as Officer Don Orville.
Love Wayne Knight, he's got a great sense of humor and I've enjoyed his work for years. "Newman" was/is always an enjoyable character.
Wayne Knight was so good at playing Newman I don't know anyone who could stand him. When you can elicit that kind of dedication to an emotion you're a really good actor. I hope people see him in this interview and understand how utterly likeable him and Jason Alexander the actors playing them really are.
Freaking Hilarious Interview! I wish it was another hour, & to know more about Wayne Knight's background & his investigator days. lol
I love people who show glee and Wayne Knight is one of them.
Wonderful Wayne !!!!!!! SMILES
Wild to think that filming multiple takes of the shot of Newman running from the farm in the bottle delivery episode is what spurred a potentially life-saving visit to the doctor
What a great combo to get together. Newman was a main influence and contrast to the major players in Seinfeld.
He was such a good foil, as someone who could do anything no matter how ridiculous.
I love Wayne Knight! He is so good in everything he does, including lesser-known shows like The Exes and Hot in Cleveland, and of course, 3rd Rock From the Sun-one of my favorite comedy shows of all time! ❤
Wayne Knight and Jerry Stiller were inspired additions to the show. Both did so well - they kept giving them more and more parts.
This is their best episode yet - the chemistry of these 3 was like the show they were part of - beat perfect
This show was hysterical!
Wayne's quick wit and knack for leaving everyone in stitches suggest he could have been a phenomenal stand-up comedian.
I loved Wayne growing up, always knew it was him in cartoons and his laugh is just such a give away.
I loved Third Rock from the Sun, and Wayne Knight was fantastic in that. And I heard so many great things about how fun the cast of that show was. I wish they talked about his time on 3rd Rock a little more.
Really, really great story telling by Wayne. Really great to listen to late at night and have a few chuckles. Thanks for posting!
I saw Wayne Knight walking into Costco in Burbank, California. The reaction of the customers was amazing. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
A quick weight loss note- I started eating carnivore (almost exclusively ribeyes, ground beef, eggs and bacon), the weight came off and I’ve stayed at the same weight for years now. And, at 58, feel better than I could have imagined and don’t really have cravings because the fat is so satiating.
Thank you, Jason and Wayne! Thank you for the joy you gave us
Wayne was also so excellent in Hot in Cleveland. People have probably mentioned it on this feed already, but I loved him in that.
Some of the best scenes in Seinfeld, he was brilliant !!!!
Wayne Knight has such great stories and tells them well. What I loved about him on Seinfeld was that although he didn't have a lot of airtime he made the absolute most of his time and was always hilarious. Such excellent casting on that show.
Ok, so I clicked on this because I remember Wayne in Seinfeld, Third Rock from the Sun and Jurassic Park, so I had all intention to skip everything else and just scroll to those parts. DON'T DO IT! This interview is RIVETING! Loved every moment of it. Such great stories and chemistry between all three. Wonderful!
Hadn't seen this podcast before, but it popped up on the algorithm, so why not! What a great interview - the P.I. in NYC is crazy! 👍🏽👍🏽
Me too. As a big guy myself, the going to the doctor part, cause "you dont want to hear it" really hit hard.
I think this may be Jason’s wheelhouse. His disarming personality is a great attribute for an interviewer
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Wayne is such a genuinely funny guy. His stories were hillarious. Great show.
I saw Wayne at a play in New York back in 1999. It was called "Art" and costarred George Segal and Buck Henry. We all stayed behind to get autographs, and even though I got Wayne and George's autograph, I actually really wanted Buck Henry's autograph, because he co-created one of my favourite shows (Get Smart), but I didn't end up getting it. That being said, it was a fantastic play, and Wayne did a great job. The thing I remember the most was some obnoxious fan kept referring to him as Newman, so Wayne didn't sign his photo. 😂
* I think Buck Henry assumed that most people wouldn't know who he was, so he just went straight to his car. Little did he know how much I wanted to meet him.
Wayne is wonderfully funny and smart. This is a treat.
Wayne is a treasure. I laughed so hard at the Paul Verhoeven licking story. 🤣
There has never been a better supporting actor/wacky neighbor in the history of television than Wayne. He knocked it out of the park every time. It's astounding.
"Don't get cheap on me Dodson! Dodson here, Dodson here!"
Jason Alexander was so extremely good as George that there is no comparison. Insanely good and should have won all
The awards possible, as well as an astounding career afterwards.
But portraying George so good I guess it’s hard to be seen as someone else.
Anyway, brilliant and Seinfeld never gets old.
Perfect to see both the interviewer and the interviewee at the same time 👍 you can watch their reactions.
Loved it. Wayne is a fascinating person.
Wayne Knight is such a funny guy ... i was in stitches ...
This is Brilliant! These guys are fascinating and brilliant, thanks very much.
This interview was so good. Not just the history shared, but even your different backgrounds shared.
The Sharon Stone scene and the Jurassic Park dinosaur spitting in his face scene. Both of them were unexpected.
What a fantastic interview I've never heard of this podcast before but I will follow it from now on❤
Extraordinary. Thank you, gentlemen!
What a fun time. Thanks guys, and not just for this but for some great memories from your various works over the years. As the son of a postal employee of 30 years let me just say that my dad, rest in peace, had 3 favorite characters of his shows he would watch..... Archie Bunker, Cliff Claven, and Newman...... You put smiles on my dads face and for that i thank you again.
I wish George and Newman had more interactions in the show. my two favorite characters
jambalaya!
You did it Newman you magnificent bastard !
This is outstanding. Thank you for these
What a coup to get Pacino on the pod! 🎉
This was SPECTACULAR 😊
First time I saw him was in basic instinct when his face filled the screen in a close up when Sharon stone did her infamous crossing of her legs with no knickers on ! lol 😂
Best episode yet. Awesome!!
Wonderful! And I did not realize until this day that he grew up in Bartow County!
More more more... amazing episode! Thank you!
I love Wayne work in Toy Story 2, I can see the character and think of him, not just the voice, the Newman attitude too
This is just the best thing I've watched in weeks, maybe months. Incredible!
I loved Wayne as Newman. He really had fun with that character. Icing on the cake. Even more absurd than Kramer.
This is the long and short of it: whether you are watching a play, movie, or TV. show, etc, or reading a novel you have to be invested in the characters. Either you hate a character/s and want them to burn in a fiery hell, or you love them, and feel their journey. If I am apathetic, my time with the project, regardless of the medium is done. Seinfeld hit the mark with every character! Even if you have solid actors, you can't have crappy writing and vice-versa. It's a successful melding of the two. They have become iconic in our culture for a reason. Congrats to Jason and Wayne on being a part of this worldwide phenomenon: Seinfeld!
Wayne is a legend!
What a fantastic show thank you all for this wonderful
An absolutely joyful podcast! Thanks!! I am now hooked. Really? no, Really?!!
What a treat! Love the show, just a matter of time before it explodes!
This was my first episode viewing and I enjoyed it so much
I learned to laugh again 😂 great podcast thanks 😊
That was exceptional. What more can one say.
This was so funny! Wayne is such a great story teller
Wow! Great episode, guys. Reallllly!
One of the best Podcast I’ve ever watched. Such a hilarious interview. I could’ve watched this for hours and hours… Well done!
I needed this.Thank You.
So enjoyable! Thank you!
This is really fantastic, subscribed!
Loved this! I also have to say I feel Jason is a LOT more at peace with George now. I remember for maybe easily 10 years after Seinfeld I always had the feeling he was almost bitter about how it was limiting his options. At least that’s what it felt like.
Wayne is a beast, naturally funny.
