    If only you had done this video about a week ago, it would have saved my 25 year old 1405. I used the purple super clean and got the same results after about 4 hours. Love your videos, they have helped me a ton with dialing in the carb on my 68 GMC.

      @@MuscleCarSolutions It caught me by surprise. That stuff works great on steel, just not for aluminum I guess. Not too worked up about the loss of the carb. I have a newer one on it now that runs fine. This one was a older spare that was a little suspect anyway.

    I found a can of carb dip from the 70 `s while cleaning garage recently . Was beginning to corrode the can at bottom so i was fairly sure it was still good. Was approx . 75 % strenght after all those years . Did not take rust off like it did when new .

    Super Clean has sodium hydroxide, which dissolves aluminum. As a side note, the gas generated by the reaction is hydrogen, so probably don't want to smoke around it especially after it has been concentrated under that lid.

    • @MuscleCarSolutions

      @@MuscleCarSolutions It works well on greasy, dirty stuff so long as it's not aluminum. Even short periods of contact discolor aluminum. I found out the hard way cleaning an engine bay and quickly ruined the finish on a carb and intake manifold.

    This is WILD! I know that these solutions would be active on aluminum, but never would have guessed the SC would have done such a job. Really goes to show the importance of rinsing any cleaning solution completely off, to ensure it doesn't sit and eat away.

    Hello! Active carburetor cleaner servicing guy here! Gotta couple of questions for you, as I'm trying to find a good solution for a permanent solution for cleaning. I currently use gunk carb dip and it works phenomenal it's just stupid expensive.
    1. Have you used CRC parts washing solvent?
    2. After they have dried did they leave a nasty white film (and not talking about the purple degreaser 😂)
    3. What solvent do you use on a daily?
    4. Also any tips for a future carburetor cleaner?

    I don't have this stuff in home shop but when doing carbs
    Tear down - note float height, squirters, jets, power valve...
    AXE jetwash everything but base plate
    Then Safety Kleen recycling solvent tank to wash and rinse bowls, metering blocks, main body and base plate. Rinse through each hole and verify no restrictions.
    Then AXE spray cabinet to rinse with hot water and blow dry (commercial kitchen sink with spray wash works well too). Everything but baseplate - brake cleaned and dried.
    Then to gauging/assembly.
    Could probably replicate with a portable water heater, pressure washer, soap and some cleaning fixtures that mount to something and a clean solvent tank.

    Super Clean and Purple Power are alkaline based and can etch aluminum. I did not know that it would be this bad. I do know that they will strip some paints. I have never left things soak in it knowing it is alkaline based. It can be used to clean aluminum before welding but I have never done it. I think from use that Super Clean is slightly more potent than Purple Power.

    • @MuscleCarSolutions
      @MuscleCarSolutions  11 місяців тому

      And yet it was easily the number one requested solution to test (slightly more than the Berrymans or equivalent). But it was asked to test and the results were clear. Don’t use it for carb cleaning unless extremely diluted and for very short periods of time!

    • @4speed3pedals
      @4speed3pedals 11 місяців тому

      I use it on aluminum but, I do not soak it overnight. I work with it after a short soaking, maybe 5 minutes. I used Super Clean to clean sludged up aluminum head on a Ford Probe and used a parts tub and poured if over and a parts brush to clean it. The head looked brand new when finished. It was not soaked overnight. I personally like both Purple Power (slightly cheaper) and Super Clean.

    Super clean and purple power similar but not the same both attack aluminum....even faster if heated to 165°.... I use it too clean steel and iron products which it does an awesome job of cutting grease and grime... But like the man said sodium hydroxide and aluminum don't play well 😂😂😂.... Knew I had the sodium part right on IG😮... The berry mans use to be the shinitz to clean carbs till the EPA made them change the formula look up the old msds for the old stuff vs the garbage they sell now and you'll understand.... You can still make it but you need to buy the chemicals separate thank you EPA😡😠😠...a fact that fuel injection forced on us carb lovers.

      It’s surprising the number of folks who suggested it for this test. Which means there’s potentially a lot of horrible carburetors out there! Berrymans works ok. I won’t test it here, but in the ultrasonic it’s exceptional. But everything was better in the 70s and 80s. 🤷

    Most any aromatic solvent can be used.
    Any cleaner that is a strong base or high Ph will eat the finish and base metal PERIOD
    No matter how much you dilute it.
    Stick to solvent and you’ll be fine.
    Toluene/Lacquer thinner/acetone etc…even mineral spirits
    All your trying to do fellas is dissolve the gum deposits
