When Mr peel spoke on the radio, he wasnt speaking to the world, he was spaeking to me, to you, he had a way of talking like he was next to you in the room, i miss the man, i miss his humor,i miss his whitt, and i miss his music. . . . . miss you John
THIS is one of the most magnificent moment's in Irish Music history And as my father put it "hearing it for the first time was a revelation, It was as if for 2 whole minutes all the hatred within us died and together we were unified in youth" Nice one da. John Peel famously plays The Undertones 'Teenage Kicks' twice in a row
Stan we will never forget what John Peel did for the people of Northern Ireland. He didn't care for the silly crap that we did for years. He just cared about the people & the music we had to give. Keep it Peel
The greatest ever DJ plays the greatest ever single. Twice. Learnt so much about music from this man, in particular how to develop eclectic taste. Many, many happy memories of his show. Wish they'd repeat them.
I keep seeing Fergal in my local supermarket and one time I drumed up the courage and had a chat with him. He's a really nice bloke and very down to earth. fantastic track and the greatest DJ of all time. RIP John.
I remember - oh how i remember - i was a student at Newcastle poly in 1978 and i was listening to this in a flat in hazelbrook ave. Jesmond and drinking a bottle of cider - best days of my life!! A million thanks and more to MrWaiteDT for posting this.
I live in America and I surprisingly heard this song at a local gas (petrol) station yesterday. I was probably the only one there who knew the song and I'm only 21. It's simple and melodic and that's why it's so legendary.
I met an English man at a Pogues concert, Melbourne, (2012?) who had seen all the famous punk and post-punk bands in their beginnings and he said that of all the amazing bands he saw, the best show of all was by the Undertones.
John Peel sessions. Mon-Thur. 1977-78. I hardly missed them listening on my little Tranny. Then when I got my Cassette Radio, I used to tape them. Still got a few knocking about. John Peel was like my friend. He played punk when no one else did. I wasn't alone. He never patronised and recognised the special in all the stuff he played. John Peel: legend.
This guy is, and forever will be a legend to me. I remember hearing his distinctive voice while i attempted to edit out the gaps between songs on radio 1's top of the pops. rewinding and pausing the c90 tape as I tried to hit the record button just before the DJ cut into the end of the song. sweet childhood memories
Reading your post, has reminded me it is almost ten years since the inimitable John Peel left us. He is still sadly missed. My most vivid memories of him are of his 'Top Gear' show on Radio 1 in the late 1960s - early 1970s, but I am well aware that he was in the forefront of radical new music for almost forty years. He introduced me to so much music I would never even have heard about, let alone heard. And he performed the same service for later generations too.
At the time who would ever thought you'd get to hear this again after 35 years!! I was in London for the very first time listening with a friend and, well, I ran to Rough Trade the next day and it's still my favorite to this day! Thanks!
whoosh back 40 years - forgot about this memory - how it really sounded late at night, lights out, recording it on a cheap little radiocassette, before I ever had the record.
Rest assure that you left us with a strong desire for listening to good music across the spectrum of music. Thank you John Peel. I hardly missed a production during my stay in Newcastle.
Nearly 40 years ago, but still sounds fresh and exciting today. the '70s had The Undertones and the Ramones. Kids today wet themselves over One Direction. Pop music is dead.
here we go,undertones-----teenage kicks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the right honourable john peel x
John ,,I know you are watching from above,,( ok,, so) we missed out this year but next season when we finally get the title back,,will be thinking about you,, thanks for your shows back in the day YNWA Legend

In the words of the great man 'In a perfect world this record would be played on the hour every hour' and who could disagree

radio history.
Without this man we maybe never have heard Pink Floyd, T.Rex etc... Hats off to John!
I heard this first on a valve radio, thats a radio with valves instead of transistors, it was made in about 1948. And we used it until about 1980.

Peel also did the same in 2003, when he played the Undertones "Thrill Me" twice in one show. That is on my UA-cam channel.

Does Feargal really sound like Loudon Wainwright ?
It was a battle John but I think Shot By Both Sides edged it and still does.
