The answer is simple maths . If 100 people who are equally intelligent prepare equally, and there are only 10 seats then no matter what only 10 will be selected based on probability or what we say luck ! Game of numbers at the end !

Thank you so much for ur words ... whatever u said it does resonates with me ....I'm having intension but my actions are lacking....how desperate i am to serve country but ..there always have been if's and but's in me ....sir while I write this I feel guilty about not taking essential actions .....but sir I really promise to focus on time instead of tasks ....and put in required amount of efforts in right direction.....sir I can see my potential to be an IAS Officer and I also acknowledge my mistakes .....I just lack in efforts but now I would be putting in i promise because I that I am the one who is among that 99 % bracket but u will soon see me in that 1 % bracket.Thank you sir
The fact is there are limited seats. Even if all aspirants do their best still only limited number will make it through
3) dont wait for situation to be ideal dont expect avoid it
4) balance your preparation based on requirements of all subjects on every exam (pt,mains , optional , interview)
5)dont get lost in massive information,

Even if all aspirants are perfect and have equal knowledge then also only 2 out of 1000 will be successful rest 998 will be a failure despite of those 998 candidates also have same knowledge as those of 2 candidates who got success and become ias. Because at the end its just game of luck.

If the vacancy is nly 1000(approx) & applicant is 12L thn obviously 99% will fail.
Selection Seat is available only 1%, in this cause 99% students are fail.

Putting such a question ( why low success rate) indicates that even the upsc notification was not read well, wherein it mentions that there are limited number of seats... Plz sir, you are allowed to sugarcoat things but not to such an extent that your words have no logic in themselves.
No hard feelings... Just saying that your reason is not right. + there is no subjectivity in answer, it's completely objective(limited seats) .
Additionally, the way you smiled in starting while saying 99% fail, was very cheap. You need to first understand what is meant by failure and success😅. You ppl are someone to glorify just one service for your ulterior motives. Ram nath covind also didn't clear upsc.... Is he a failure?... Mind your words 😏
Apne thumbnail ko dekhiye...kaisa emotional manipulation karte hain aap log... It was guru purnima on the day before yesterday. But, when I see upsc coaching star teachers, I find out that these ppl can never fit into image of guru. You all are business minded emotional manipulators.

I watch lots of mentors videos over upsc exams(cse) where they advise/suggest aspirants to prepare in this way, don't do that, do this etc...
Ohh come on sir how many numbers of seats will be there every years hardly 900 to 1200. But aspirants numbers are in lakhs not in thousands. Whatever you do only 900 to 1200 people will get selected and
I don't see any logic in your approach or other mentors.
