My tip for entrepreneurs is; keep it personal! Don’t lose sight of your own vision just because what you see on social media! The fact that you started your business is amazing already. Ive been on etsy for a few months now, made 15 sales. Thats 15 more than I ever thought i would make!
My tips: Do not put yourself down about your art, I see this a lot on YT and it saddens me, I've started my business back in 2002 just out of high school, and I've seen it all. You are your own person your style does not need to liked everyone.
I completely agree with you. We often tend to be so critical of our work, I think that comes from some kind of programing we receive from the outside world. It is so important to be open to both positive and negative feedback, and not get stuck on the negative, but see it as an amazing opportunity to grow and learn more. I would love for all of us to get into a growth mindset and embrace the journey towards mastering our respective crafts.

Fear, that’s my biggest bump in the road! I am so scared to put myself out there cause nobody will like the art I am making. I have no idea how to get over this frightening feeling. I think it’s a mixture of perfectionism and fear that stop me dead in my tracks. But, thank you for this video, it helps me realize that we have to start somewhere, imma right? (See what I did there hehe)
I think it is a perfectionist thing and just being a beginner. I've been struggling with this too. Especially when you see all these youtubers or tiktokers who are successful and you want to do things as perfect as they do. But from what I've seen everyone starts in a small corner of their room and expand. Some of my best designs I've made are ones I didnt obsess or plan over. I just keep telling myself that I deserve to have a job that I love!
I heard a speaker, I forget who, say that you shouldn't be scared of putting yourself/art/products out there because you are not other people and what you think is not great another person might think it's the best thing in the world.
@@Lixae HI Stephanie, I'm in the same boat. I turn 30 tomorrow and i am at such a weird pivot point in my life I want to work for myself but I'm scared people won't like it or will make fun of me. I've created separate accounts to basically be an anonymous artist to see how the public will like it before I introduce it to my peers. I only did it this past week. I get nervous oeoole will make fun of me, but if I create something successful first, then even if they do, I dont care lol
I'm at the hiring help part and honestly wish I would've done this sooner. I've been so adamant about doing everything myself because I'm such a perfectionist, and didn't realize for a while that it was stopping me from growing. There's only so much one person can do and if you keep doing everything yourself, you cap out on how much you're able to make. Thanks for the lovely video, Catherine! I recently compared myself to others, it got so bad that I cried for hours one day. So I decided to delete majority of my social media’s and I only kept Instagram and UA-cam and limit myself one hour on Instagram a day. It has helped me so much! It’s easy to compare yourself to others but if you do take a step back and relax:)

I started a small business over lockdown selling cool handmade face masks and it uhh... kinda exploded! I've always struggled with procrastination but the best kinda weird way I've found to stay motivated is to watch studio vlogs! I binged all of your amazing studio vlogs while I make tons of masks and something about watching other people being productive helps me to be productive too!!
I was about to quit a while ago. I'm supporting few artists on Patreon and I remember I told my fellow patrons on Discord that I hesitated to keep running a Patreon page because I felt like no one is caring.It's been 4 years I'm there and I have very few patrons. I received some interesting feedbacks but must of them told me it's fine if I quite. And the funny thing is I didn't. I've made such a long and hard road to just give up now. Thanks for sharing us your journey Katnipp. Guys, you're the only one who can decide what's good for you, you're the only one who can stop you from succeeding. Great video and advice! My advice is to enjoy the process of creating first and foremost - I'm always preaching that on my art channel. Also remember that you have to make the bad stuff to create the good stuff. If you enjoy the process and realize that the bad stuff you make isn't a waste because everything goes into the good stuff you make - nothing is wasted. I do believe that marketing/promoting a product the whole social media aspect takes a very long time and it can actually burn you out...I also agree when you are tired it's essential to take some time off to renew and be able to create as well as to be more productive...It has taken me so much time to organize my schedule and see what works for me with having a full time job, being a single mom of a toddler and trying to run a business as well as being a RA patient it can get overwhelming but I believe the customers as well as the support from other businesses make it Allworth it.

I'm actually about to going back as I used to do by making merchandises and planning to make my own personal products. I used to be burnt out due stresses and personal issues, so I had to take a break for couple of years.. I was at the lowest point of my life, I stood up again, tried to work at company to test my ability and tried learn new skills as much as I can. I will be taking another leap at the end of October and I'm scared, but I have faith I will be doing good this time.. Catherine, this video is incredibly authentic and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your tips with us. I've been having conversations with myself recently about where I want my life to lead. I'm trying to deeply understanding what are the barriers that have kept me back and learning how I can take steps in faith of what lights me up as a person. My advice to people who want to pursue a path in the arts, but are scared because they have a stable job, is to journal about what kind of journey they want to go on. Like you said we only get this one, very precious, life. If people understood that, I mean really faced their mortality head on, then they would do anything that is within their power to change their lives. In the end, this human experience will be gone, no one really knows what happens when our physical bodies die. So it it really important to spend our time doing in the pursuit of or doing the thing that really get our souls elevated !

I've really had to change my business model this year. I sell artisan animal lamps from wood and my main growth has been through stalls. Obviously the current situation had changed this and I've now developed my online store and started vlogging so people can see how I make things but gosh it was scary. It's working out but not being afraid to say yes and going for it is the best thing for you and your business. It doesn't always work but when it does there's big dividends. Thanks Katherine for giving me the confidence these last three years to pursue my passion 💜

I'm currently working two jobs while simultaneously trying to make time for art and have been slowly gearing up to start selling prints of my watercolor paintings on Etsy, but have yet to take the leap because I worry about having the time for everything.

Loved this!!! I also have to say that age is just a number. The one thing I struggle with is that I’m older than the average person on this media. I get discouraged thinking it’s not really worth sharing what I’m excited about or what our family is doing. But the whole point is to celebrate you! Whether it’s your art, your passions, your family, or something you’re good at! I got my first LLC at 24, 18 years ago. I’m always thinking outside the box and loving the creative process in developing ideas. So if you’re watching this and thinking “yeah I can’t do any of this though... they’re all like 22...” It’s a lie. Have at it and have so much fun following your heart!

Hi Catherine, Thankyou, I have a vision for my little illustration style and I have decided on my brand colours which is an exciting step! I am a single mum with two girls , I’ve bought my first Epson printer, I use Procreate on my iPad and I have just opened an Etsy store. I still have tons to do and add, I do feel a little scared of taking the financial step into being very vulnerable in my head I see it much worse 😂 my eldest daughter Esmae wants to do the same as me she will be my little helper as well as my youngest daughter Orla ❤ I can see them really inspiring me. My style is plant mumma cottagecore meets fairycore I’m always inspired by nature. The social media juggle scares me and I am also going for my first driving test this week! But I can see myself driving to stalls and conventions in my little fiat 500 ❤

Great video and advice! My advice is to enjoy the process of creating first and foremost - I'm always preaching that on my art channel. Also remember that you have to make the bad stuff to create the good stuff. If you enjoy the process and realize that the bad stuff you make isn't a waste because everything goes into the good stuff you make - nothing is wasted. We love you so much Catherine - you are so generous to all of us and I have learned so much from you - keep it coming!

I do believe that marketing/promoting a product the whole social media aspect takes a very long time and it can actually burn you out...I also agree when you are tired it's essential to take some time off to renew and be able to create as well as to be more productive...It has taken me so much time to organize my schedule and see what works for me with having a full time job, being a single mom of a toddler and trying to run a business as well as being a RA patient it can get overwhelming but I believe the customers as well as the support from other businesses make it Allworth it.
Can you do a whole video of like 1 hour of u only packaging. Pretty please!!!! I'm a new subscriber and I've already seen everyone of them. I absolutely love the parts of the packaging. Or do Asmr. Haha 🥰 I would gladly watch u. Also I adore the aesthetic u have.

I'm actually about to going back as I used to do by making merchandises and planning to make my own personal products. I used to be burnt out due stresses and personal issues, so I had to take a break for couple of years.. I was at the lowest point of my life, I stood up again, tried to work at company to test my ability and tried learn new skills as much as I can. I will be taking another leap at the end of October and I'm scared, but I have faith I will be doing good this time.. I've been watching your channel for quite long time and broke me to tears, you have made me realize I should be happy and do what I really want in life. Thank you so much Catherine!

I've been having conversations with myself recently about where I want my life to lead. I'm trying to deeply understanding what are the barriers that have kept me back and learning how I can take steps in faith of what lights me up as a person.
My advice to people who want to pursue a path in the arts, but are scared because they have a stable job, is to journal about what kind of journey they want to go on. Like you said we only get this one, very precious, life. If people understood that, I mean really faced their mortality head on, then they would do anything that is within their power to change their lives.
In the end, this human experience will be gone, no one really knows what happens when our physical bodies die. So it it really important to spend our time doing in the pursuit of or doing the thing that really get our souls elevated !
Aww, thank you for sharing the "Rest tip". Indeed, business owners big and small experience burn out. I'll take your advice and will have a rest instead of pushing myself harder! Lol
I've really had to change my business model this year. I sell artisan animal lamps from wood and my main growth has been through stalls. Obviously the current situation had changed this and I've now developed my online store and started vlogging so people can see how I make things but gosh it was scary. It's working out but not being afraid to say yes and going for it is the best thing for you and your business. It doesn't always work but when it does there's big dividends. Thanks Katherine for giving me the confidence these last three years to pursue my passion 💜

I'm currently working two jobs while simultaneously trying to make time for art and have been slowly gearing up to start selling prints of my watercolor paintings on Etsy, but have yet to take the leap because I worry about having the time for everything.

Loved this!!! I also have to say that age is just a number. The one thing I struggle with is that I’m older than the average person on this media. I get discouraged thinking it’s not really worth sharing what I’m excited about or what our family is doing. But the whole point is to celebrate you! Whether it’s your art, your passions, your family, or something you’re good at! I got my first LLC at 24, 18 years ago. I’m always thinking outside the box and loving the creative process in developing ideas. So if you’re watching this and thinking “yeah I can’t do any of this though... they’re all like 22...” It’s a lie. Have at it and have so much fun following your heart!

All your tips are just so excellent Catherine! Watching this late but I wholeheartedly agree with the tip where you get the worst tasks FIRST, as well as learning to take a break if you feel like your energy is running low. It's so hard to pull away because I feel like I need to do this work for my small business since it's so new but it can definitely wait. All such great advice and very inspirational. And completely agree about comparing yourself. Can’t remember who said it but ‘comparison is the thief of joy’! I’m just starting out on my own business (children’s book reviews and related teaching resources for parents and teachers 😁) and loving the process but it’s daunting, particularly the social media aspect. I’ve taken lots of inspiration from my favourite UA-camrs like you and also started this channel and I was thinking I just don’t know how you get it all done so this was great. In my videos, I do some art or crafts inspired by books just to keep it interesting but I’m such an amateur so lovely to hear your words of wisdom on the creative journey! Hi Catherine, Thankyou, I have a vision for my little illustration style and I have decided on my brand colours which is an exciting step! I am a single mum with two girls , I’ve bought my first Epson printer, I use Procreate on my iPad and I have just opened an Etsy store. I still have tons to do and add, I do feel a little scared of taking the financial step into being very vulnerable in my head I see it much worse 😂 my eldest daughter Esmae wants to do the same as me she will be my little helper as well as my youngest daughter Orla ❤ I can see them really inspiring me. My style is plant mumma cottagecore meets fairycore I’m always inspired by nature. The social media juggle scares me and I am also going for my first driving test this week! But I can see myself driving to stalls and conventions in my little fiat 500 ❤
