He was insecure to the ump degree. He always measured himself against Paul Newman.Paul raced cars he raced cars. When they did The Towering Inferno film they had to add more lines of dialog because he found out Paul had more!Whacky for a grown man to act like that.

I would be happy to donate if the narrative follows a more chronological path, rather than going through facts and then rehashing them later. Also, rather than having a jumble of of photos that repeat several times, wouldn’t it be better if they were organized to appear during that part of the narration to which they apply? Only my two cents, but raising the production value could only improve these studies in the lives of well known actors.

My Auntie Gloria was a film and TV character actress and worked w/ McQueen on several TV projects, including a few episodes of "Wanted: Dead or Alive". He would occasionally take her out riding on his motorbike, which she greatly enjoyed doing. She took his passing pretty roughly. I, for one, was very impressed by his performances.

I remember his passing. I was driving down Queens Blvd and heard it on the radio in 1980. He was down in Mexico who at the time was providing last ditch and questionable Laetrile therapy for his cancer. He was a young guy when he passed but a cool man for sure. Never forget him in " The Great Escape" as well as "Bullitt."
Addendum: Your Auntie Gloria was the real thing and a beautiful woman.
      Thanks for sharing.

I am a big Steve McQueen fan,I think this was fair concise, and told the truth,Steve McQueen was difficult ,cheated on his wife, did drugs,, could be lazy, but you know put him on the movie screen, he was pure magic,he never forgot the boys republic, went there , donated money, yes he did have a terrible childhood, but you know he was no saint, but Steve no one can compare to you then and now,you went your own way,and I choice to see you as you were, far from perfect, just trying to survive the best you could.☺️🇬🇧

One major thing u left out is the MOST imp part of Steve's horrible personal life is within a yr or so b4 his death he accepted Jesus & was saved & regretted he didn't have more time to lead ppl to the Lord & give his testimony to ppl cuz believe me ppl would of listened & believed him. So when he passed away in his sleep after surviving a surgery that was highly illegal he woke up thirsty & had his bible (given from Billy Graham & signed by him) open to John 3:16 & closed his eyes fell back asleep & passed into Glory w/Jesus. Ty Lord for rescuing Steve from himself

Just wanted to add a postscript to the end of his life. He desperately wanted to live and traveled to Mexico for experimental medical treatment. At some point, he was told about salvation through Christ and became a devout Christ follower several months before his death. That's what I choose to dwell on. He finally found peace.

He almost turned down the role of Frank Bullitt. Steve was very anti-establishment, and Frank Bullitt was a cop/detective. Why on earth according to Steve ,would I play a cop? That's nowheres ville! Of course he was also afraid of what his anti-establish friends and fans would think.

actually Steve's cancer originated back in his NYC acting days. When he was working for a insulation company in the Brooklyn Navy yards that sprayed asbestos fiber matting into the hulls of ships as insulation. There was no regulation or connection at the time between cancer and asbestos. In addition to being a smoker

Personally, I happen to think he made a career of playing the same character over and over again, no matter the role or the movie. It was always the serious, lost and bitter loner, the guy who didn't care about anybody but himself. I'm not even sure he had much reach as an actor, at least I've never seen it. That of course can be said about many actors, Clint Eastwood comes to mind, same squint, same studied coolness and lack of compassion, but to me the difference is that Eastwood at least made me care about his characters at times, whereas I've never seen McQueen play a character I found interesting enough to care about one way or the other. Cool, I'm not so sure, self-centered egomaniac, for sure. Dean Martin was beyond cool on stage or in some of his movies, as was Gregory Peck for that matter, and you can admittedly say that we're comparing apples to oranges and all that deep bs acting crap, but some actors have personalities and character one can like and admire, McQueen had none of that imo. He was a troubled human being, with massive insecurities combined with a huge ego; not a good cocktail, and it showed. Cheers
